Delivery the TPG Way


All dedicated delivery PMN/WMN are part time.

Maximum contract is 15 hours per week.

43% are Female and growing.

Sorting and Delivery are separated.

Walk sequencing supports the concept.

Difficult for Union to organise.


Deliverers are on a lower rate of pay – just above the minimum wage.

TPG have a target of 66% being housewives, students or pensioners.

They have some 16-18 year olds already.

They use anywhere as a Delivery Office such as Garages and Football Grounds.


Saturdays are done by a completely different workforce.

Most are students.

Packets are subcontracted

Special Delivery items are done separately.

There is no set Delivery Span.

Deliveries take place between 0900 – 1600.


Mail is dropped to the Deliverers in pouches already walk sequenced including flats and deliverable packets.

The exchange of full and empty pouches takes minutes.

Most deliveries are done on bikes.

There are no cars.

Deliverers tend to live in the area they work.


Full time delivery Pmn/wmn prepare (14) deliveries in the main office and then complete a small delivery themselves.Prep frames have revolving fillets enabling the same frame to be used for 4 deliveries.All Special Delivery items are done by full timers.Business deliveries are done by full timers.


A female Deliverer who worked 7.5 hours a week said “ I get the kids ready for school and drop them off. I then go home and have some breakfast and do a little housework. Then I cycle here (garage) about 10:30 and do my delivery (1.5 hrs). I go home do some more housework and pick the Kids up. I like the job it is so convenient. I get exercise and meet people and it fits in with my private life.”
