Assessment Appeals

ACNM looks to ensure that students are satisfied with training and assessment processes to assist in preventing where possible the for assessment appeals.

If a student requests to have an assessment decision appealed they will in the first instance be advised to discuss the matter with the relevant trainer/assessor in an effort to reach a suitable outcome.

If a domestic student does not agree with the result awarded the student can access the Assessment Policy - VET, the Grievance Policy – VET and the Grievance Procedure available which manages students’ grievances in an equitable, confidential and prompt manner.

The table on the last page demonstrates an overview of the assessment methods to be used in each unit of competency.

Detailed mapping will be used to ensure the assessment methods address the unit of competency’s elements; performance criteria; required skills and knowledge.

Simulated Assessment Environment (SAE)

Simulation is a form of evidence gathering that can be used with this course and involves the student completing or dealing with a task, activity or problem in an off-the-job situation that replicates the workplace context – Simulated Assessment Environment (SAE). The SAE must simulate real life working conditions with all relevant equipment and conditions of that working environment, including interactions with clients and co-workers.

To meet this requirement ACNM can provide a simulated workplace environment for the student to demonstrate the following:

Technical skills

Underpinning knowledge

Generic skills such as decision making and problem solving

Workplace practices such as effective communication

Working as a team, fulfilling responsibilities and expectation of the job and workplace.

All practical requirements involving gym and fitness activities.

A work placement component of 40 hours is provided with a 25-hour workplace internship and a 15 hour onsite practical workshop in ACNM gym and fitness facilities.

Educational pathway processes outlined to prospective students prior to enrolment via the website, discussion, the Student Handbook, or supplied on request. Students are encouraged to apply if they believe they may be eligible for an Educational Pathway.

Pathway assessors are responsible for conducting the evaluation of all applicants. Previous learning will be assessed as equivalent to the College’s unit of study and/or unit of competency for advanced standing to be granted. Assessment will take into account the units of study, units of competency, volume of learning, program of study, including content and the learning and assessment approaches of the previous learning and/or work life experience.

RPL will be available to students where it is appropriate and suitable to a specific award course and only where a student’s previous non-formal or formal learning has taken place within the last three years as outlined in the RPL Procedure – VET.

The formal education evidence for CT must be within the past three years to be considered. The CT processes will support VET to VET and Higher Education to VET advanced standings.

Successful educational pathway applicants will have ‘CT’ (Credit Transfer) and/or RPL (Recognised Prior Learning) applied to the unit/s of competency on their academic record.

Validation and Moderation

Validation and moderation are processes in the College’s commitment to quality assurance through continuous improvement.

Validation and moderation aims to align tools, training or assessment tools, to the qualifications’ requirements and desired outcomes whilst ensuring the philosophy of natural medicine is preserved.

It is the responsibility of the National Academic Director – Fitness and Nutrition to ensure validation and moderation are implemented as per the Validation and Moderation Policy.

Validation at the College is a quality review process which involves checking that the tools produced are valid, reliable, sufficient, current, and authentic and are able to provide reasonable adjustment to the relevant aspects of the training package. The procedure will include preparation for a validation session; a session being held; and documentation of the session and its outcomes. An external validation session is optional and at the discretion of the National Academic Director – Fitness and Nutrition. This would see members of the ‘Industry Advisory Group’ unpacking and reviewing various aspects of the DAS; delivery tools; assessment tools; and their relevance to industry standards.

Moderation at the College is the process of ensuring assessment judgements are in alignment with the ‘Rules of Evidence’ and the Standards. It ensures that the same standards are applied to all assessment results within a unit of competency across all cohorts.

Information gained from student and other stakeholder feedback and input will form a part of the validation and moderation processes.

Validation and moderation will also examine past Recognised Prior Learning submissions.

Course Monitoring and Evaluation

Course monitoring and evaluation is to ensure the course remains current with industry needs, enterprises and community groups; remains relevant to the training package and industry; remains viable; and creates a favourable climate.

Methods may include but are not limited to;

Student and stakeholder feedback

Trainer/assessor feedback

Continuous improvement activities

Validation and moderation activities
