ViaSat enables mobile network operators (MNO) to deliver GSM/3G voice, messaging, application and data services to underserved communities. Featuring a fully integrated cellular and satellite backhaul network allows MNOs to easily extend their existing networks to address underserved areas or create greenfield networks. For the first time, mobile operators are equipped to deliver profitable and sustainable services to underserved communities using a distributed architecture model connecting low-power remote VSAT terminals via low- bandwidth satellite links. The system interoperates with existing GSM/3G management systems and facilitates roaming and MNO inter-working. DELIVERING PROFITABLE GSM/3G ACCESS TO UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES FULLY INTEGRATED, LOW COST GSM/3G INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORTING MOBILE APPLICATION SERVICES KEY FEATURES » Very low GSM terminal infrastructure cost Ì Significantly lower equipment costs than what is currently available » Turnkey remote site equipment provision Ì Complete site equipment kits are ready for deployment » Highly efficient, circuit switched satellite backhaul Ì Lowest cost per minute in the industry for small cell sites with consistent call-by-call voice quality » Low power consumption Ì Powered by affordable solar solutions reducing OPEX costs » Intelligent remote with local call switching Ì Local calls require no satellite traffic bandwidth » All-outdoor enclosures, IP66 rated » Modular and flexible with scalable deployment options, 1-6 TRX using omni or sectorized antennas » Easily installed by non-technical staff with basic training SUPPORTED SERVICES Services available to underserved communities include: » SMS messaging – supports mobile banking applications » Data – 3G/GPRS/EDGE » Support for USSD services BUSINESS BENEFITS » Expanding geographic coverage increasing the number of urban and rural subscribers » Very low operational costs – sustainable infrastructure » Bringing support of e-initiatives to underserved areas » Immediately deliver essential services to off-grid sites » Ideally suited to micro-financing and universal service obligations When compared to the cost of extending mainstream cellular networks using fiber, microwave or traditional VSAT back haul, this complete end to end solution significantly reduces both capital and operating costs.
