Students learn about Medical Career Pathways  As part of the Delaware Academy STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) initiative, we hosted a presentation on various careers in the health field.  There were several wonderful speakers that shared some great information  regarding jobs in the health field, education required and their experiences helping others.  The students found this to be very beneficial as they begin their journey of college and career exploration.

Third Grade News   Spring has sprung in the third grade wing!  Everyone has been busy 

completing the ELA and Math state exams while polishing up on their 

reading, writing and math skills everyday too!  We will soon begin learning 

how to write in cursive and will be publishing stories we have written in 

Writer’s Workshop!  We have enjoyed learning about the different biomes 

in Science and Social Studies and are wrapping up our unit on the Arctic. We 

will start a new unit on Simple Machines very soon!  

While the winter season has been tough with the different illnesses that 

went around the classrooms, we are glad to say that everyone seems to be 

on the mend and back in full “learning” swing! We wish you a happy and 

healthy spring season!

Lunches Feature New Lettuces and Tomatoes  Delaware Academy Food Service Department has recently changed our fresh salad options in the Elementary and High School. Students are now receiving a fresh mixed green salad consisting of fresh heads of Romaine, Iceberg and Red Leaf Lettuce.  The salad bar is also offering Cherry Tomatoes. They are always a big hit when they are harvested fresh from the school garden.       

Interested in joining the School Board?   Reminder that all Nominating Petitions for the Board of Education seats are due to the District Clerk by April 18, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.    

    

 

      

 

  Join Us for some fun on April 16th!  The Delhi Fire Department will be competing in a friendly basketball game vs. the Walton Fire Department as a fundraiser event.  BULLDOGS vs Warriors, a the rivalry that never dies.  Many graduates of our district will be on the court during this event.  Come out and support our firemen and all that they do for our community. These are volunteer positions that help make our community great and deserve our support. We are looking forward to a fun night of basketball, laughs, and a good time.  Let's show our bulldog pride and that we support them and appreciate all they do!!!   Bring a few dollars to donate towards admission and fun, all proceeds will go to the departments.  See you Saturday April 16th @ 7:00pm, come early if you want to watch warm ups and visit with friends.    

Cupcake Wars  

 Students in Mrs. Sherman's Baking 1 class competed in Cupcake wars. Students were challenged with designing and decorating cupcakes that were judged by many faculty and staff.  The baking 2 class was challenged to make a cake following the theme "Sweet 16".  The results were as unique as the students themselves.  

  

 

    WHAT IS OPERATION SAFE STOP?Operation Safe Stop seeks to promote school bus safety through education and enforcement efforts. Operation Safe Stop is a cooperative project supported by the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Education Department, the New York Association for Pupil Transportation, the New York State School Bus Contractors Association, the student transportation industry and state, county, city and local law enforcement agencies. 

   DID YOU KNOW: An estimated 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York State school buses every day. 

   THE LAW SAYS:∙         It is illegal ­ and very dangerous ­ to pass a stopped school bus when the large red lights located on top of the bus are flashing. Flashing lights meanthe bus is picking up or discharging students. 

∙         You must stop whether you are approaching the school bus from the front or overtaking it from the rear. 

∙         You must always stop for flashing red lights, even on divided and multilane highways and on school grounds. Here at DA this includes in front of the High School even though there is a divider between lanes. Reminder that HS/MS student drop off is at the side of the building not in the front. 

∙         The first­time fine for illegally passing a school bus is a $250 to $400 fine, 5 points on your license, and/or possibly 30 days in jail. 

∙         Worse yet, the memory of hitting or killing a child may be one you carry for the rest 

of your life!   PENALTIES FOR PASSING A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS: 

By Conviction  Minimum Fine 

Maximum Fine 

Possible Imprisonment 

First Conviction  $250.00  $400.00  Up to 30 days 

Second Conviction (within 3 years)  $600.00  $750.00  Up to 180 days 

Third or Subsequent Convictions (within 3 years) 

$750.00  $1,000.00  Up to 180 days 

   Remember That: 

Yellow lights mean the bus is going to stop. Slow down! Anticipate the stop. 

Red lights mean students are getting on or off the bus. 

STOP! STOP! STOP! 

The goal of Operation Safe Stop is to proactively educate motorists about the dangers of passing stopped school buses.

Operation Safe Stop Education and Enforcement Day is Thursday, April 21, 2016. On April 21, 2016 law enforcement officers around the state will participate in Operation Safe Stop Day.  During "Safe Stop," police officers are on board school buses and in marked and unmarked patrol units on selected bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints. 

Police issue tickets to drivers who pass stopped school buses (Section 1174 of the Vehicle & Traffic Law).  All violations are reported to a central command post so that final figures are available to state and local officials as well as the media.
