I recently attended this festival at the Barbeque Nation restaurant in Delhi and it was truly one of the most unique food festivals I have had the pleasure of visiting in the city. The food itself was a carnivore’s paradise, being mainly comprised of the kind of barbeque that is popular in many Southern African nations and featured peri-peri chicken legs, grilled fish, barbequed prawns and even vegetable dumplings for all the vegetarians in attendance.

It is not just the food that set this festival apart from many of the other options available in Delhi, the venue was decorated in a mesmerising Sub-Saharan style, with guests enjoying a variety of safari themed props and entertainment provided by some rather impressive fire juggling from members of staff.

International Mango Festivals

The International Mango Festival has been held annually in New Delhi since 1987, and in those 27 years has risen in prominence to become one of India’s most internationally renowned and popular food festivals, as well as one of my personal favorites.

India is the world’s largest producer of mangoes and as such, the Delhi International Mango Festival is a must visit for anyone who is passionate about “The King of Fruits”. If you have only ever heard of a few varieties of mango – expect an education. There are over 500 different varieties of mango available at the festival, all of which can be seen or tasted by visitors.

The festival also provides a great demonstration of the incredible culinary versatility of the mango, with an assortment of mango-based products such as jams, juices, pickles and canned fruit also on show. Some of India’s finest chefs also present their exquisite methods for mango preparation and recipes that are as delightful to the eyes are they are to the taste buds.
