Delaware’s Law Enforcement Torch Run is celebrating its

35th anniversary in 2021! Since 1987, Delaware Law Enforcement has hit the pavement in support of the athletes who train and compete in Special Olympics. Through their signature event – the Torch Run – law enforcement has opened the doors of understanding and acceptance while raising awareness and critical resources to fuel Special Olympics’ growth and quality programming.

The 2021 Torch Run will look different this year, but the reason to run has not changed. At its most basic level, the Torch Run is an actual running event that unites local, state, and federal agencies to carry the Flame of Hope across our great state to the Opening Ceremony of Summer Games each June. The flame symbolizes the courage and celebration of diversity which is at the heart of the Special Olympics movement. Law enforcement who carry the torch have proudly become known as “Guardians of the Flame.”
