A term of office is for 2 years and only voting members with at least 24 months of Active membership are eligible to hold office. If you fall under these guidelines, I would encourage you to consider running for office. In March of 1963 the Delaware Saengerbund held their General meeting with only 13 members present and since December of 1962 existed without a Board of Directors for over 4 months. To coin the phrase “We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!” is certainly an understatement. From 1963 to 2011, we have grown to a membership of almost 1,000 members. This growth is not by accident, it comes from determination and hard work to grow and develop something you truly believe in. Being an officer of an organization is an awesome responsibility, but a most satisfying experience as well. It is crucial to think about why you should run for office and one of the most important factions in the Delaware Saengerbund is you are a person deeply committed to the mission of this Club. First and foremost the objectives since 1853 have been to “encourage, support and perpetuate the study and use of the German language, culture, traditions, customs, dancing, and German choral singing”. I know there are many of you that have that commitment and I ask that you reflect on what you have learned from this organization and what skills you have gained since becoming a member, with the primary goal of keeping the Delaware Saengerbund a cultural organization for another 158 years. Hopefully you are interested in preserving our mission for the generations to come. Please think carefully with the DSB’s mission in mind, and know that you could help to motivate everyone to act in ways that bring the DSB closer to success. Our nominating committee of Linda Escheu, Brian Schulz and Hank Maier will be contacting you, or you can express your interest by contacting them. November - Thanksgiving, changing of the leaves, cooler weather, and time to break out the long scratchyunderwear. As my term as your 1st VP is drawing to a close, I would like to hopefully put two more beers ontap that I hope you will enjoy. Now please understand, last month I extolled the virtues of Magic Hat Howland as of this point as I am writing, it has yet to even be in stock at the warehouse, though it has been in myorder book the entire month. Rest assured, when it does come in, we will have it on tap for your enjoyment. The last thing I would want to do is come off as a hypocrite, telling you one thing to your face and doinganother behind your back.

So for this month, I will again point you to a local brewer and showcase the efforts of Old Dominion. OD,though started out in Washington D.C., moved to DE around 2007. They make a selection of decent beersand this month I bring you their Oak Barrel Stout. Put aside the hyperbole you've read about other stouts, this one is mellow and adventurous. The malt is roasted with oak chips and vanilla for a mellow sweetness.Light hints of roasted coffee and toffee prevail in this darker than night brew. For those that like to bring alight snack to the bar to share with friends, to pair with this beer I suggest seafood, Brie or a lightly smokedcheese or anything chocolate. This month also brings Boddington's back at a special price, $1.50. Enjoy.

Hopefully this newsletter finds you before Oct 29th in which case I would like to correct last months errorthat our Halloween party is not the 30th, rather the 29th in the Bauernstube beginning at 7:30. Prizes forbest dressed and please bring a dish to share if you like.

November 18th Friday Food returns. Since we have such a full calendar of events, it will be our only dinneron a Friday night this year. Why not start off with homemade French Onion Soup. A crock of delicious redand sweet onions bathed in chicken broth, red wine and spices topped with French bread and meltedcheese. We'll also be serving our scrumptious rosemary scented pork loin stuffed with roasted garlic, driedapricots and cranberries with a port wine pan sauce. Accompany that with new potatoes in caper sauce, ablend of seasonal root veggies, a roll and for dessert, Crème brûlée. You may want to go get a napkin towipe your chin...

The Map Project Returns

The Genealogy Group will bring out the maps of Germany and/ Western Europe for the November Generalmeeting. The objective is to place locations on maps of Germany and/or Western Europe for up to two (2)ancestors. The original Map project ran from fall 2008 to spring 2009. Since then there have been manynew members. We want to give you a chance to add your ancestors to the maps. We plan to frame themaps and hang them in the entrance hall.

We need the name of the ancestor and the town they came from. The names will be cross-referenced withthe member name, ancestor name, and town location. Only Germanic related locations will be used.
