High Desert Palette

Del Hi Street Quilt Sewing Instructions1. Refer to the illustration of the quilt, either the Mediterranean or the High Desert Palette. It is divided into long rows with three or four pieces making the large rectangles in each row.

The long in-between rows consist of three or four of the 1 1/2" strips and sometimes the 2 1/2" strips. Be sure you have sewn these together into sets of two strips of each fabric. Trim off the excess at the bottom after sewing these to the quilt top.

Suggestion when sewing long rows together: Sew the first row to the second row from the top to the bottom. Press. Sew the third row to the second row from the bottom to the top. Press. Continue in this manner.The quilt top is sewn together row by row.

2. Continue this process, sewing the pieces in the large rectangles together in each row, then sewing the rows onto the quilt top as you go.Once all the rows are sewn, it should measure 70 1/2” long.Make a crosswise cut 20 1/2" from the top edge. Figure 1.

3. Refer to the illustration of the quilt below and sew the crosswise rows together.If you are making the High Desert version, sew K2 to the end of N1.The completed unit should measure 80 1/2” x 10 1/2”. Press.Sew the completed crosswise row between the two sections to complete the quilt top. Press.

4. Layer, quilt, and finish.Each quilt was quilted in a different motif, which were both inspired by the designs in the fabric.
