Eportal Automated Online School Choice Registration and Application System

Creating a Parent Portal Account

1. Students not enrolled in a DeKalb County School District public school must complete the Registration Authorization process to be

eligible to complete a School Choice Program Application. Each parent must use the online Infinite Campus Parent Portal Registration

at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/about/schoolchoice or http://eportal.dekalb.k12.ga.us/eportal/ to register the student and receive an

Activation Key (GUID Number) to create a login user name and password.

2. If the child you plan to submit a School Choice Programs application is enrolled in a DeKalb County School District public school and

you have created a Parent Portal Account user name and password, complete steps 1 through 12 in the next section.

3. If the child you plan to submit a School Choice Program application is enrolled in a DeKalb County School District public school and you

do not have a Parent Portal Account, please contact your local school to receive an Activation Key (GUID Number) to create a login user

name and password. Create a Parent Portal Account at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/www/infinite-campus/.

4. Select Parents. Next, select Campus Portal Parent Login. Follow the instructions to create a user name and password.

5. The user name and password will be used to access Infinite Campus Parent Portal and School Choice ePortal.

6. Once you have established an account, complete steps 1 through 12 in the next section

How to Complete Online School Choice Program Application

1. Go to the ePortal School Choice Program webpage at http://eportal.dekalb.k12.ga.us/eportal/.

2. Click “Log In” at the top right corner of the web page.

3. Provide a user name, password, and click “Login.”

4. Select Home for the program of interest under “Quick Nav” in the left column.

5. In the left column under Applications (above Quick Nav), select the school for which you would like to complete an application.

6. Scroll down to the section with the student registration information and click the blue student ID number for the

7. student you would like to complete an application. The cells on the application will automatically populate with the

information provided in Infinite Campus.

8. PLEASE CHECK THE ACCURACY OF ALL INFORMATION.

9. Contact the local school to make any changes including an address change.

10. Save the application. You must save the application to enroll the student in the automated random lottery election process.

11. Print the saved application for your records.

12. Check the applicant’s registration status at the top of the online application.

13. See registration status below.

**Important: If the application contains any errors the errors must be cleared before the student will be placed in the automated

random lottery selection process. Errors will also prevent students with siblings from receiving sibling priority when applicable.

DeKalb County School System 2015 – 2016 Career Technology Pathways

and Magnet Program High School Application and Admissions Information

Environmental, Energy and Engineering Magnet Program DeKalb Schools Environmental, Energy and Engineering Magnet Programs are designed to support students

aspiring to become engineers, soil conservationists, microbiologists and other environmental and related

professionals. Interested students must apply for admission to the programs.

Career Technology Pathway Programs Career Technology Pathway Programs will prepare students in grades 9 - 12 to transition successfully to post

secondary education as well as acquire technical skills and knowledge needed for immediate employment or a future

career. Students will explore environmental, energy systems, health care, child care, business, culinary arts,

communications, and computing career pathways.

High School Career Technology Pathway Programs simulate real life experiences and are the first step to

engaging in a career path.

Eligibility Requirements – Student must:

• Submit a complete transcript (private and home school students)

• Meet all grade level promotion requirements

• Earn a current core numerical average of 80 or higher

• Earn 80th percentile or higher complete composite score on a norm referenced standardized test (Grade 8)

• Compose a satisfactory essay (Grade 8)

• PSAT Writing Score – 41 or Higher (Grades 9 – 11)

Magnet Program Continuation Guidelines

• Students must maintain a core numerical average of 80 or higher.

• Local school designated uniform required daily

• All students must complete 20 hours of community service

• Seniors must complete a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) project specific to

their major program of study.

• Students must participate in an academic competition and participate in student organizations and/or clubs.

• Parents must complete 10 parental involvement service hours each school year.

Magnet Program Transportation Option

The Transportation Department will provide Arabia Mountain High School students the option to be transported to

the school from strategic regional satellite pick-up locations. The high school regional satellite pick-up locations

are subject to change each school year based on student enrollment. Parents will be responsible for transporting

students to the regional satellite pick-up locations in the morning and from the regional satellite pick-up locations

in the afternoon.

Magnet Program Parent / Student Notification

Parents of students accepted for placement in the Magnet Programs must register by the April, 2015 deadline. If

the student is not registered by the April, 2015 deadline, the student’s placement will be declared vacant and the

next eligible alternate will be offered placement.

Arabia Mountain High School Course Description Guide

Small Business Development Pathway

This pathway is designed for those considering a career in business, especially small business. Courses

provide students with the skills needed to develop and manage independent small businesses. Includes

instruction in business administration; enterprise planning and entrepreneurship; start-up; small business

operations and problems; personnel supervision; capitalization and investment; taxation; business law

and regulations; e-commerce; home business operation; and applications to specific sectors, products and

services.

Culinary Arts Pathway

The Culinary Arts pathway creates an awareness of opportunities within the vast areas of the Food

Service Industry. This pathway incorporates developments in the areas of institutional food, fine dining

and basic baking principles. Pathway completers will have a strong foundation in the basics of food

preparation, safety, nutrition, and restaurant operating procedures.

Engineering Pathway

This pathway is a sequence of courses which, when combined with traditional mathematics and science

courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering. This

pathway will introduce students to the field of engineering technology. Students will solve problems

using common engineering practices. Students will be acquainted with the major fields of engineering

and with the diverse functions engineers and technologists perform. Students will be familiar with the

paths and certifications that can lead to careers in engineering and engineering technology. Students will

understand and demonstrate communication skills necessary in the field of engineering. They will

employ and individual and team approach while solving engineering problems.

Energy Systems Pathway

This pathway will introduce students to energy systems technologies. Students will understand

mechanical, electrical, fluid, and alternate systems. Student will also identify and understand energy

resources. This pathway will cover the codes, regulations, and industry standards that are currently in

place for sustainable energy buildings and Green Buildings. Evaluation of a building style and the

energy efficient materials used in its constructions will be included. Students will develop an awareness

of the energy crisis and the use of alternative energy.

Agricultural Science/Plant Science Horticulture Pathway

The production processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural

commodities and resources including food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture and other

plant and animal products/resources.

Therapeutic Services Pathway

Students wishing to pursue a career in the Healthcare Industry will receive initial exposure to healthcare

science skills and attitudes applicable to healthcare including the concepts of health, wellness and

preventive care.

Broadcast/Video Production Pathway

Students learn studio and field production for video and television. Through hands-on experience with

cutting edge digital equipment, students will video projects and edit in linear and no-linear suites.

Students apply theoretical concepts while planning and designing programs, capturing, editing and post-

producing shows in the studio and the field.

JROTC Air Force

This is an aviation history course focusing on the development of flight throughout the centuries. The

emphasis is on a civilian and military contribution to aviation; the development, modernization and

transformation of the Air Force; and an astronomical and space exploration history. It contains sections

on cadet and Air Force organizational structure; uniform wear; customs, courtesies and other military

traditions; health and wellness; fitness; individual self-control and citizenship.

Interview Requirements To be granted unconditional admission to DeVry University, for an education online, on campus or

through a combination of both, a prospective student must interview with a DeVry University

Admissions Advisor (Admissions Representative in Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska and

Oregon) and complete an application for admission. In addition, all other general and specific admission

requirements must be met, including those regarding age, prior education and evaluation of proficiency in

the basic and prerequisite skills needed for college-level work.

Basic and Prerequisite Skills Evaluation Applicants for an education online or on campus must show evidence of basic and prerequisite skills

proficiency levels in at least one of the following; ACT or SAT examination scores deemed appropriate

by DeVry. Although requirements may vary by program, the minimum scores DeVry considers when

evaluating basic skills proficiency are:

• ACT Math - 17; ACT English - 17; SAT Math - 460; SAT Verbal/Critical Reading - 460.

• Applicants with lower scores in one or both areas may still demonstrate skills proficiency in

any of the other ways listed.

• Attain appropriate scores on DeVry administered placement examinations in reading, writing,

arithmetic and algebra.

• Submit required documentation indicating acceptable grades in qualifying work completed at a

recognized institution.

Arabia Mountain High School

Magnet & Career Pathways Student Selection Process

Arabia Mountain High School programs information and application information is available at

Applicants will be selected through an automated selection process. If there are more program

applicants than available program seats, those students who were not selected will be placed on the

program grade level ordered waiting list. If there are fewer program applicants than program available

seats, the DeKalb County School System shall select all applicants. Late applications submitted after

the deadline will be processed for consideration if additional placements are available and all eligible

waiting list applicants have been considered for enrollment. Applicants new to the DeKalb County

School District applying after the deadline are treated as late applicants. Selected and wait listed

applicants will receive written notification in April 2015 after the automated selection process is

completed. Parents who completed an online application may view the application and lottery

status by accessing the parent portal account.

Automated Lottery/Selection Process

All lottery results are subject to verification by the Management Information System Office. Any

malfunction of the lottery system will result in the immediate voiding of the drawing. The DeKalb

County School System reserves the right to void and repeat any lottery drawing which results from

any system malfunction or human error.

Magnet and Career Pathways Program

• You must only select options the student is eligible to participate in for year 2015 – 2016.

• Selecting an ineligible option will make the complete application ineligible for selection.

• Program enrollment availability is based on the number of open seats per grade level

• Students must reside in the DeKalb County School District.

• Applicants must meet the program eligibility requirements to participate in the lottery.

• Staff children of full-time Arabia Mountain High School employees must adhere to the current

Board Policy Descriptor Code: JBCC when applying for enrollment in the DeKalb County

School System School Choice Program.

• Multiple Birth - Applicants with the same birth date, applying for the same grade level and

school choice program, will be placed simultaneous if the open seats are available.

• Eligible applicants will be placed in the grade level School Choice 1 lottery pool.

• If the program grade level seats are not filled during the School Choice 1 lottery, the grade

level applicants selecting the option as School Choice 2 placed on a waiting list will participate

in a lottery to fill the remaining seats.

• If the program grade level applicants participating in the program grade level School Choice 2

lottery are not selected, the applicants will be place on the program grade level School Choice

2 waiting list. The applicants will not return to their program grade level School Choice 1

waiting list. Each applicant may only participate in one lottery pool during a selection

process. No applicant in either pool is guaranteed placement in a School Choice Program.

Waiting List

• Once all seats are filled, the remaining applicants not selected for placement during the

automated selection process will be placed on the program grade level waiting list in the order

in which the applicants were drawn during the automated selection process.

• If additional seats become available after the lottery has been conducted, the seats will be filled

from applicants on the waiting list (per grade level, per program).

• The waiting list will be applicable from the date of the automated random lottery/selection

process until September 30, 2015.

• The waiting list will be housed in the School Choice Programs Office. Students will not be

placed after September 30, 2015.

Notification Process

Written notification will be sent to the selected and waiting list applicants. This letter will inform the

parents of the documentation that must be presented in order to complete the enrollment process:

Certified Birth Certificate, Immunization Form 3231 (New form number for 2000), Form 3300

Hearing, Vision, and Dental Screening, Report Card (1st through 7th grade Non-DeKalb County

School System students).

If for any reason the parents/guardians fail to complete the registration process, the applicant’s

name will be removed from the School Choice Program student selected list.

The following guidelines will apply to all students selected to attend a School Choice Program:

• If the student does not meet the promotion requirements to enroll in the grade level for which

he/she has been selected, the student’s placement will be declined. The seat will be offered to

the next eligible applicant on the waiting list.

• Vacated seats will be filled from the waiting list.

• No new students will be admitted after September 30, 2015.

• Students not selected may reapply for the 2016-2017 school year.

• Wait listed students will receive a letter that includes their wait list number at the time of the

automated selection process.

• Parents completing an online application may view their updated lottery status by accessing

the parent portal account.

• Click the word edit under pencil to view the complete application which lists the wait list

number.
