Sophomore Snippets: Mr. Manz
PLAN Testing The PLAN test is scheduled for Thursday, November 10. Encouraged for all sophomores, this test offers a low-pressure, low-cost preview of the ACT, which most students take before post-high-school training. Additionally, the test provides personalized direction on career matches. The fee is $12.00, payable by check to "Defiance High School" (or cash) to Mrs. Jenalee Niese in the main office. There is still time for any sophomore to sign up – please contact Mr. Manz for details or fee concerns. Please take advantage of this worthwhile offer. On the web: www.planstudent.org.
Each year, Defiance High School selects one (or two) outstanding sophomore(s) to represent the class at an expenses-paid, multiple-day leadership seminar held June 7 – 10, 2012. Mr. Manz introduced this opportunity (along with the PLAN test) to sophomores in late September. Applications may be turned in to Mr. Manz through Tuesday, November 1. All sophomores may seek this resume-building honor. Contact Mr. Manz for more details on how to apply.
Mr. Manz made plans to work with 1st semester health classes on Wednesday and Thursday, October 5 & 6. The KUDER on-line system is useful to match personal skills/interests with available career choices. On the web: <http://www.kuder.com/students-and-parents/parents.html>. Other freshmen can look forward to learning this program during their health classes spring semester.

Junior Updates From the Desk of Mrs. Gable
Math Tutoring Monday & Wednesday: 2:45-3:30 w/ Mr. Wahl (Room 103) Tuesday & Thursday: 7:00-7:45 am w/ Mr.
Weaver (Room 105)
Parents, please encourage your junior to share with you the handouts received in English classes from Mrs. Gable. Juniors were given “Get Set for College”, March2Success, a list of useful web addresses and much more. Juniors planning to attend college after high school should take the ACT at least twice this year. The ACT is a college entrance exam required by most colleges/universities. (Fee waivers may be available for students on free or reduced lunches; see Mrs. Gable.) Students register for the ACT online at www.actstudent.org. Please have your student register for the December and April or February and June tests. This site includes preparation for testing, planning for college and exploring career options. Students may also wish to take the SAT in addition to the ACT if they are considering an out of state school. Register at sat.collegeboard.org/register. Juniors will take the free ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on November 17th. The ASVAB combines aptitudes, interests and values to produce a list of career choices for each student. It’s not too early to plan for a career/college after high school. Please check out the many websites given in English classes. Please call with any questions (419) 784-2777 or email: [email protected].
