If God wenton strikeIt's just a good thing God aboveHas never gone on strikeBecause He wasn't treated fairOr things He didn't like.If He had ever once sat downAnd said, "That's it - I'm through,I've had enough of those on earthSo this is what I'll do.

"I'll give my orders to the sun -Cut off your heat supply,And to the moon- give no morelightAnd run those oceans dry. Then, just to really make it toughAnd, put the pressure on,Turn off the air and oxygenTill every breath is gone."

Do you know He'd be justifiedIf fairness was the gameFor no one has been more abusedOr treated with disdainThan God - and yet He carries onSupplying you and meWith all the favours of His graceAnd everything - for free.

Men say they want a better dealAnd so on strike they go,But what a deal we've given GodTo whom everything we owe.We don't care whom we hurt orharmTo gain the things we likeBut what a mess we'd all be inIf God should go on strike.

Under an order from HowardDe Beck, comptroller of waterrights, Mr. Money will be in aposition to cease operation of theexisting system on September 29.

The Capital Regional Districthas indicated that it will not takeover the existing water system andthat the referendum must beapproved before it will initiate anyaction.

"With the referendum effec-tively sidelined, by the ministry ofmunicipal affairs, it is not clearwhat will happen when the De Beckdeadline passes, " said MikeHayes, chairman of the local watercommittee.PROVINCIAL HELP

The Capital Regional Districthas been working with representa-tives of the affected area for over ayear and the proposal worked outcalled for provincial involvementunder the Water Facilities Assis-tance Program.

Hayes told Driftwood that thepeople of Saturna are angry anddisappointed in the light of thislatest roadblock.

He said that representions toMr. Curtis's office had been inef-fective so far, "despite earlierassurances from Mr. Curtis that hewould provide assistance whereverpossible."

The Comptroller of WaterRights has the authority to extendthe deadline of his own orderregarding the relinquishment ofthe certificate of convenience in thepossession of Money Bros, andPederson and which is due toexpire at the end of this month.

BY WALTER HUNT-SOWREYAs I was away from the island

during most of this period, records, with the exception of rainfall, werenot fully kept, so it is impossible forme to give my usual comparisonrecords.

June and July, as is usual, provided considerable sunshineand very little rain, whilst August, after the 10, gave its more or lessnormal rainfall. There were some

quite warm periods, and I was eveninformed, on a very wet and coolday in Cork, Eire, by a fellowtraveller, that the temperature inVictoria, B.C., when he had left aweek earlier, was in the 90's. Icould only presume he was correct, and that, perhaps, I was taking avacation in the wrong area.

With the September report, Ihope to give my usual summaries.
