Getting to knowSquadron First Sergeant: Get involved

in many areas, find something you likeUpon her most recent promotion to the highest Cadet rank be-

low commissioned officer, C/CMSgt. Jessica Bayne was named as

First Sergeant of Deer Valley Composite Squadron 302.

Following are questions and answers to acquaint Officers and

Cadets with this highly qualified and rapidly advancing Cadet

    senior non-commissioned officer:

Q: How long have you been in CAP?

Cadet Bayne: I have been in CAP since May 2005.

Q: How long have you been squadron First Sergeant and what

are your responsibilities in this role?

Cadet Bayne: I have been the First Sergeant since the beginningof December. My main responsibilities are to make sure the

flights are doing what they should be doing and helping the CadetCommander with anything he needs.

Q: How has (CAP) helped you in your everyday life?

Cadet Bayne: CAP has made me much more organized with everything, especially with

    school work and my time.

Q: What advice do you give to newer cadets?

Cadet Bayne: Just to get involved with as much as you can until you find something you

like and give it your best. Examples I give are ground team, flight line, color guard and drillteam along with many others.

Q: What is the one thing you want to get from CAP? Cadet Bayne: I want CAP to prepare me in any way they can for life and the military,

whether it be physically, mentally, leadership skills or experience.

Q: In addition to serving as squadron First Sergeant, in what other CAP activities are you

active? Cadet Bayne: I try to go to any and all CAP activities that I can. This year will be my sec-

ond year on the drill team. Also, I plan on attending CAP NCSAs (National Cadet Special

    Activities) this coming summer.

Q: Are you in any extra curricular activities at school?

Cadet Bayne: I am in ground school at South Mountain High School, which keeps me

pretty busy, so I unfortunately don't have the time for after-school activities which was

unlike my past two years at Deer Valley High School, where I was on the dive team, per-formance dance team and on the JROTC drill team.

Q: Who in the program do you consider to have been the most instrumental in your ad-

vancement in CAP and why? Cadet Bayne: This is quite a tough question because so many have helped me through the

program. To sum up, most of that influence came from the drill team. There are so many

great officers and NCOs such as C/Lt . Col. Cameron Philips, C/Lt. Col. Jamie Hurley,

C/TSgt. Matthew Phillips and C/SMSgt. Caleb Eaves, just to name a few.
