Fall is coming

Change is in The Air at DSC

Changes Planned for Deer Creek Fall 2011.Changes are in the works for Deer Creek in the next few months. Many projects have been on the agenda for this summer, but due to the extreme heat they were put on hold. You may have noticed progress being made on the school horse barn and the outdoor stadium arena in the preliminary stages of construction. Additionally, a 20X60 meter dressage arena is scheduled to begin shortly.

Some esthetic improvements are in the early planning stages. The main barn will be getting a face-lift with a new coat of paint. The addition of small and drought resistant landscaping plants is being considered.

Charter School Equestrian Classes to Begin at DCSDCS will be holding an equestrian class for a Fort Worth charter school starting mid September. On Wednesdays, Jennifer will be handling 5-10 kids in the 12-14 year range. Curriculum includes basic safety, care of horses, and horsemanship. This is excellent exposure for our barn. Please make our new guests feel at home.

The Living Social ExperienceMost everyone knows that DCS participated in a Living Social package that was overwhelmingly successful. The deadline for redemption of client coupons ends September 7th. We have added some new clients that have a passion for horses. Let’s

Most riders have a dominant side, one that is stronger than the other and bears more of the rider's weight in the saddle to compensate for the weaker side; however, many aren't aware that they have straightness issues. Elizabeth Hanson developed Equestrian Pilates, a fitness program featuring three routines, to help riders become aware of and fix common posture, balance and flexibility issues while strengthening the areas of the body that are most important for proper riding. Here, excerpts from Hanson's "Equestrian Pilates" e-book provide insight about one-sided weaknesses and exercises to remedy this common problem.

Understanding One-Sidedness The muscles of the stronger side are shorter, causing the rider to lean to that side. Straightening the rider's posture requires stretching the muscles of the dominant side and strengthening the muscles on the weaker side. Riders who are stronger on their right side should stretch their lower back and both the right and the left leg, focusing more on the right side. The left leg and abdominal muscles need to be

strengthened so riders can support themselves with their core to be able to open the hips and use the legs as aids instead of using them to stay in the saddle.

Fixing One-Sided Weakness Many of the exercises Hanson uses to help riders improve their posture in the saddle require stretching, which restores the body's balance.
