F uture historians will look backover the course of the past centuriesof Christianity and discern 3 greatepochs: Pagan Rome, the BarbarianHordes and Modern Materialism. In the first era of the Caesars camethe early triumph of the Church. Inthe second era of barbarian invasionsof civilized Europe, there came there-conquest of the world for Christ. We are, today, living in the third era forwhich there remains vast possibilities.Little did the haughty Caesars deemas they looked upon the Christianvictims staining the sands of the arenawith their blood that, from thoseprecious drops, would spring theconquering army of the Cross of Christ.

T he deluge of barbarism swept like atidal wave over Europe. New “lordsof the earth” had taken their placeat the banquet table of the world.Amid the wreck of civilization, theChurch survived, sublime in beauty

and strength, girding Herself for the

second spiritual conquest and thesocial reconstruction of the worldin Christ. Wild and willful childrenof nature, untamed, filled with greedand with the lust of battle in theirblood were subdued, their mindscultivated with learning and theirhearts formed in the meeknessand humility of Christ. It was along and weary task, but the Churchdid not fail or falter. Can this wonderbe thrice repeated?

I t is a far greater world war beingwaged today for no less a purposethan the domination of all theinstruments of human power for useagainst Christ and His Church in the

service of the world. Christ is notalways directly under attack, for thisdark empire it is sufficient to over-look Christ. The rest would follow.Materialism is the new idol andPaganism has won its third greatvictory, not over the Church, but

over schools, governments and thehearts of millions of souls. Although

some of the children of the Churchmay falter and fail, the Church willforever be without spot or wrinkle. She alone needs no reformation andis promised by Christ that the powersof Hell will not prevail against Her. Itis the Will of Christ that She dependsupon us to aid in advancing Herbanners for the spiritual conquest of the world. We must live in the worldyet belong wholly to Christ, filledwith the grace and light and strengthof the Holy Ghost.

W e are swornsoldiers

of Jesus Christfor we have been received throughBaptism into His great army. We havebeen strengthened by the Sacramentof Confirmation and are nourishedby His own most precious Body andBlood in the Holy Eucharist to fightthe brave fight. It is a war against sinand wickedness in every form, a royalbattle to extend God’s Kingdom inthe souls of men. The standard of theCross is lifted high and the buglesounds it rally tones. Earnest Christiansgather on the battle front. All for

the greater glory of God!

C hrist is our Leader. He has enduredevery hardship and danger before

us. He asks only that we “followHim” into battle. He has paid our

ransom with the last drop of HisBlood. He now asks of us no sacrificewhich He has not offered up Himself. Was there ever such a king andleader! Who is so great, so strong,so beautiful, so regal, so humble,so heroic and so unselfish as theKing we follow! Not on the widefield of battle, loud with musketryand cannon, does He rally His soldiers, but it is from the silent tabernacleHe awaits our coming. Daily, He keepswatch for us. We are not neglectedunits in His service, but upon each

one of us His divine eye rests witheager love and longing. We arebrothers of the King; let us be heroicin our generosity!

T he only service worthy of man isGod’s glory and the salvation of souls. By word and deed, by prayerand example, by alms and service,we will extend Christ’s Kingdomupon earth. God’s service does notinterfere with the fulfillment of aman’s duties to his own family, butperfects his performance of them

all. It alone can make life trulyworth living and the world trulybetter for our having lived in it forhowever brief a space. Servicemeans Sacrifice! To each of us, thesublime invitation is extended. Thereis no conscription, for all of Christ’ssoldiers are volunteers, who serveout of love for Him.

The perfection of every object ismeasured by the manner in which itanswers the purpose for which it wasmade. We have been created by Godto save our souls and countless othersouls whom, through God’s infinitegoodness, we can aid by our prayers, our intentions, our words and worksand alms. This is the true object of life. Are we doubling in God’s servicethe talents which He gave us, or are

we hiding them away? Are we tradingwith them to His advantage or are

we saving them up for our pettyselves? There is no possible way tomeasure our success in full on thisside of the grave. But one thing wecan measure is the effort we havemade to bring souls to Christ. It isour humility on the one hand andour intensity of love on the other, which are the two mighty factorsin laboring for souls. Little SaintTherese said, “Pick up a pin fromthe motive of love, and you maythereby convert a soul.”

T he Catholic press alone is mosteffective in reaching souls. Supportit! A monthly magazine, inflamedwith eagerness for the cause of Christ, may prepare the way for conversionor raise a soul up from despair. Theapostolate of the Catholic missions inforeign lands does mighty works byour alms and accompanying prayers. Our hands must not be empty when

the Master calls us Home. Why havewe not done more?“ W e must do B attle before G od

gives the V ictory! ” St. Joan ofArc

O ur first duty is to build up God’sKingdom within our own soul. Withthe conquest of ourselves begun,we can more confidently hope toconquer other souls for God anddaily extend His Kingdom. We must

not wait for others to do the work.God is calling us and we must put

forth our best strength.A pathy towards the cause of Christ, cowardice or compromise, and everyform of indifference must be lookedupon as treasonable. Life is a warfareand EVERY CHRISTIAN must be aCrusader. There are enemies withinand without. It is not sufficient todefend ourselves against them. Wemust wage an offensive warfare. Tostand upon the defense only is togive the enemy every advantage. Our standard is the Cross, our Leaderis Christ. He came to found His

Church which was to be a spiritual, conquering power to break throughthe entrenchments of the foe, tostorm the citadels of error is our task, not merely to dig ourselves into theearth, hiding in trenches, tremblingas we await their skillfully plannedattack. We have Christ with us. Wehave His very Self for our daily Food. His arms support us and we need notfear. All that we do on the battlefieldmust be supported and surroundedby prayer. There is great necessity fora life of prayer. We must rely upon

divine strength far more than ourown. Every day should begin with afervent Morning Offering and, in thespirit of that offering, we should liveour lives. A mission awaits us, moregrand and mighty than we can everimagine!

T hrough Mary, Christ first came intothis world. Through her, He must begiven to the world again in our time.He that is mighty has done greatthings to her. Mary is the Mother of God. To deny her this title is to denyall Christianity. Christ is the true Sonof Mary and, if Mary be not theMother of God, then Christ is notGod and the religion He founded isthe basest of all deceptions. Mary isthe Queen Mother at the right Hand

of the King for all Eternity. The Heartof Mary is an apostolic Heart, as she

is the Queen of Apostles. It is fromthis stainless Heart that the Blood of Christ was drawn. It was to the motherlove of the Heart of Mary that weourselves were entrusted beneaththe Cross of Christ and to her wewere directed to go in all our needs:BEHOLD THY MOTHER!The firsthope of fallen man was the Womanwith her Child, and the last hope of the world shall still be the same:

Through the Heart of Mary, theworld will be brought to the Heartof Christ.E very Catholic must become, for hisown close neighbors and associates,

a sample by which men judge theFaith he professes. How do I representthe Church? Is my life a fair sampleby which men can rightly judge theinfluence of the Church’s doctrine? Some are lukewarm and will bevomited forth from the mouth of God.Others are cowardly, and indifferent. They are a ZERO, and do not registeron the Catholic scale.

A re you the light of the world?D oes your life

G ive witness to C hrist ?

O ur armament in this battle is notearthly, but the power of unitedprayer for the conversion of theworld. Distributing instructive andapostolic literature will fan the flame

of faith in souls. Making missionsand retreats are ways in which to

carry the torch of faith. There arecountless ways of laboring for theKingdom of Christ within our home, cities, nation, and all over the world.Prepare ye the way of the Lord! Everyone can do something. A vagueinvitation to help is not enough. Each one has a special task, some-thing definite he can do which isvital to the battle at hand. By takingan active part, we will be roused fromindifferentism into action and, in turn, our fire will one day inflame others.Meekness, but not weakness and

consideration, but not compromise, are the conditions of the true Catholicapostolate.

W e must observe all things thatChrist has commanded. Compromisewith those not of the Faith is at alltimes the deadliest of errors. Hereprecisely is the danger of religiousindifferentism. Here is the danger of socialism. Here is the danger of mixed marriages. Here is the dangerof seeking at all costs to keep thegolden opinion of the world andfearing its contempt. Modernism isthe baneful blossom of religious com-promise and atheism is its fruit. Wecannot save the souls of others in anysuch way, but we can readily lose ourown. Under a thousand deceptions, themodern Delilah skillfully seduces withher lavish immorality and religiousfalsehood, and lure of hidden pagan-ism, many a poor unsuspecting soul. The so called neutral press is oftenhighly dangerous. What begins asreligious indifference ends in errorand loss of faith. The modern dayDragon of godlessness pitilessly blindsus to the Son of Truth and the lightof God’s Revelation. Evil reading, like evil companionship, leads todestruction. How necessary it is toread each day from Catholic books

in order to be inspired, instructed, and protected against error!

“I n vain will you build churches, give missions and found schools. Allyour work will be destroyed, and allyour efforts rendered fruitless if youare not able to wield the defensiveand offensive weapon of a loyal andsincere Catholic press.” (St. Pius X)It is needed every day to enlighten, encourage and strengthen the faithful. It is the mightiest ally in overcomingignorance, error, bigotry and the entirehost of enemies embattled againstChrist and His Church. “Good Catholicmagazines should be given the widestpossible circulation and be placed in

the hands of all, especially those whohave drunk from the poisonous wellsof the secular press.” (St. Pius X)

T here can be no truer social work,no more effective charity than to bringmankind back to Christ, to restore toit His doctrines and His Sacraments.Suffering and evil will not disappearfrom the world with its conversion. But moral evil will be lessened to the

utmost and the physical suffering, where it exists, will be sanctified and

rendered meritorious.W hatever signal success the enemiesof the Church have achieved againstus in the past has been due toorganization. Individual efforts, nomatter how determined, can accom-plish little. Association is the naturalmeans of success. It is by this, we mustdefend the interests of Christ and HisChurch. It is the one efficient counter-method if we would be effective. Meremembership in a Catholic society isnot sufficient, but active and efficientmembership is required. We are in a

period of history when apathy meansdefeat, and indifference is criminal. Our minds, our hearts, our handsand our means must be placed atthe disposal of the propaganda forstrenuous, efficient and universalCatholic organization. We must con-quer ourselves for the love of Christand He will help us, in turn, by Hisbountiful grace, to win the world forHim.T he LIVING ROSARYis a powerfulexample of organization: universal, united in prayer and disseminatingsolid Catholic literature. It is sosimple and little that we might easilyfail to realize its power before thethrone of God and its infinite valuein time and throughout Eternity.Ven. Pauline Jaricot knew very wellthe value of this mighty armamentfor good, and she laid down her life, that it might set the world on firewith love for Christ and His Church. The zeal of our promoters, and thoselaboring with them, must have nolimit, as we ride into battle:

T o C onquer the W hole W orld

D ear Apostle of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

W e have witnessed during the past two months many horrific events in theworld: the cyclone in Myanmar, the earthquake in China, war in Lebanon, pillageand death in Zimbabwe, Sudan, Congo and Burundi; tornados, flooding, fires, and Legislation making same-sex marriages legalized in the USA. The LivingRosary was hard hit by postal theft on a grand scale for a period of two months, which nearly crushed us entirely. So many of you responded to our demiseimmediately. You have very generously supported the bulwark of Our Lady’sRosary Army with prayers and donations which have kept aloft this mightyvessel of God’s Mercy to the whole world. God love you! Many of you, dearmembers, are suffering from illness, loss of jobs and family instability. Ourprofession of faith has been, until now, relatively easy. But, the hour is here whenthe cunning of the devil will have power over souls. You are daily rememberedin our poor prayers. Have Courage!

F r. Redemptus Valabek, Postulator of the Central International CarmeliteOrder in Rome, wrote to us some years back, “If your prayer movement wasinconsequential, the evil one would not bother you. But, obviously, theprayer movement you direct is something that bothers him very much andhe will use every means at his disposal to crush your initiative. With greatfaith, you must continue your work regardless of the mounting costs ofsending out materials. Please keep up your good work despite what I knowmust be many obstacles.”

W e must never give way to fear, relying upon our own powers, or trusting inour own resources and ability. Our hope and our trust is in the Queen of Heaven. Let us march forward, brave soldiers of the Mother of God, trusting inMary, ever confident of Victory!

S tand tall for the Lord! We are theChurch! We are the royal priesthood! We arethe people whom God has chosen to bringlight to all who live in darkness! We mustnever lose courage! Through the Heart of Mary, the world will be brought back to theHeart of Christ. Filled with zeal and on firewith love, let us go forward to win all souls forChrist the King!!!

We are asked to love God, Who isBeauty itself, Infinite Love, BoundlessGoodness! We are asked to trust theOne Who above all is the most trust-worthy, Who cares more for us thanour nearest and dearest friend couldpossibly care for us, Who understandsus and knows all our wants, all ourtastes, and all our desires far betterthan we know them ourselves, Whois not only ready to help but neverlacks the means to do so, Who nevermisunderstands us and never takes

offense at our coldness, Who is alwaysready to help, to forgive and to com-fort. Could anything be easier thanto love and trust such a Person? One thing we may be certain of isthat God will never fail the soul thattrusts in Him.

We should always act quietly andcalmly without disturbing the peace

of our soul. It can never be right toworry or to lose one’s peace of mind.Worry can never be pleasing to Godunder any circumstances whatsoever. One must be greatly on one’s guardagainst a troubled mind, for this is oneof the most powerful weapons in thehands of the devil. When the devilcannot get us to commit deliberatesin, he changes his tactics. He tries totempt us to depression, despair anddiscouragement. As a result, we loseour peace of soul, that peace whichenables us to pray! Satan takes endless

pains to prevent a soul from enteringinto contemplation. His favorite planis to trouble the soul with worry.Remember, that worry of any kindnever comes from God. Drive it awayat once!!! Whatever God chooses forus is best. We must leave all that con-cerns us, even our own sanctification,to Him. Let us cease to be preoccupiedwith our own petty selves. God is theonly one worthy of consideration. We must keep our eyes fixed on Him.We must love God FIRST, becauseHe is infinitely worthy of our love.

Suffering is an evil, a consequence of sin. Had sin never been committed, suffering would not have come intothe world. The royal road to God isthe road of the Cross. We cannot, forone moment, entertain the thoughtthat God likes to see His childrensuffer. Why then have most of Hisgreatly loved children had to suffer?

Page 12: Dedicated Decades Summer 2008

10

It is simply because God longs tobring them more closely to Him and,

to do this, He must make them strongenough to bear the reception of greater and greater favors.

Suffering purifies the soul and drawsit closer to God. Suffering is a tonic. It braces the soul and makes it ro-bust. We must have courage andtrust, God will do the rest. We maybe quite sure that we are safe in God’sHands, and that the road He choosesfor us is the very best in every possibleway. Suffering fans the flame of DivineLove in the soul. If we have greatsuffering, we have the consolation of knowing that great graces are in storefor us as soon as we are capable of

receiving them.God sustains the soul in sufferingand gradually calm is restored.Exterior sufferings are nothing com-pared to the suffering of mind andheart. God will be with us. Wherecould we be safer than with Him?When we fall, our sin humiliatesand discourages us. Do we imaginethat we can attain holiness by ourown efforts? Is not God powerfulenough to make a saint, even out of such a poor creature as our self? Havewe been to confession? Do we believeGod has forgiven us? We must forgetthe past, excite in our souls contri-tion and go forward with renewedconfidence in God. He is no doubtmore pleased by the acknowledge-

ment of our weakness and our needfor Him than He was displeased by

our fault.I f we are too fatigued to pray, toosick or cannot even read a book andmeditate, we must not be alarmed. He knows all about us. He made us!He does not expect too much of us. if we are willing to stay near Him, Hisinfluence will make itself felt intime. He will draw us irresistibly toHimself and make us His very own.

“ C ome to Me all ye thatL abor and are burdened,

A nd I shall refresh Y ou ! ” I n the service of the poor, the sorrow-ful, the suffering, the tempted, the sickand sinners, Jesus gives all His divineattributes, His infinite power, Hisinfinite wisdom, and His infinitemercy. No prayer, no sob remainsunheeded. He would rather forfeitall honor and praise - if possible, even that of the angelic choirs - thanpermit the petition of one humansoul to remain unheard. There is only one who has no claimon the mercy of Jesus: he who lacksconfidence. Confidence is the key tothe Sacred Heart, the key to all Hisgraces, the key to all His blessings. Therefore, let us always approachHim with unwavering and childlikeconfidence in His love and mercy.Every day of our lives, but especiallyin the hour of our death, let us takerefuge in the Sacred Heart that hasbeen opened for us sinners...

< Fr. John Bauer – PA >

I wrote to you about coming hometo the Church after 38 years. I amdoing well and pray my Decade, theAnnunciation, daily. I did not thinkmy wife would ever come to Churchbut I have been praying for this nearly7 months now. Oh, the power ofprayer! She is now attending Holy

< Leah - MI >

T hank you from the bottom of myheart for pointing me in the directionof the Living Rosary. As a result, 3 of my friends at Hillsdale CommunityCollege have joined the ULRA and ithas brought them many graces. Onefriend was a Protestant but he tookup the Decade and prayed it everyday. Unknown to him, he had beenbaptized Catholic when he was an

infant. His conversion was truly areversion, something that would never

have been revealed, I believe, withoutthe prayers of Ven. Pauline Jaricotto whom I entrusted him. The LivingRosary transforms the lukewarm intofervent Catholics and it is clearly adevotion beloved by Heaven.

< Anthony >

This dearlady died and I did not hear from thefamily. One day while visiting theChurch office, I found a huge pileof completed Rosaries. I recognizedthem right away as ones that I hadsupplied parts for. What a miracle!Today, I am sending them to you fordistribution. Jeanette made a totalof 22,016 Rosaries for Our Lady’smissionaries. May she rest in eternalpeace! < Joe – FL >

T he Living Rosary Association was founded by Ven. Pauline-MarieJaricot at Lyon, France in 1826, at the age of 27. She first founded thePropagation of the Faith at the age of twenty. Pauline was a closefriend of Saint Jean Marie Vianney, the Curé of Ars. It was formally

approved and richly indulgenced by PopeGregory XVI, and accorded official canoni-cal status on January 27, 1832 .

T he Living Rosary is not a new devotion, but a continuation of the Rosary preachedby Saint Dominic and announced by Our Blessed Mother for centuries. In these daysof evil, chaos, confusion, division andmodernism, the Living Rosary will bea mighty force in every family, parish, diocese and country. The Holy Rosary is agift to us from the Queen of Heaven. If the Rosary is prayed faithfully and isstrengthened by the unity of association,it will render the attacks of Satan impotent. The Living Rosary is endowed with great

power before the throne of God throughthe union of charity that flows through its members. Immense are the graces and merits obtained daily, by every member, when unitedand animated by the Fire of Divine Love in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. One who prays the Rosary alone receives the grace and meritsof a single Rosary, but if he or she is united with TEN million mem-bers, then all of the graces and merits of the whole are gained.

“ T o save Souls from Hell, Godwishes to establish in the worlddevotion to my Immaculate Heart.I promise salvation to those whopractice this devotion.” These arethe very words of God’s Holy Motherat Fatima. Singular, significant andtimely, today, more than at any othertime in the course of history! Godgrants graces through the ImmaculateHeart of Mary to whom He has con-fided the peace of the world.

T he lurid flame of hatred that leavesthe earth in ruin must be stayed bythe pure flame of Divine Love ... afire kindled not by bomb and shellbut by grace. There is no fuller vesselof the Love of God than the Heart of Mary! God’s Love burning in theHeart of Mary is a fire. A soulexposed to the flames of the divinefire contained in the Heart of Marywill be transformed by this contactinto Love Itself. To love Our BlessedMother and to surrender ourselvesto Her Heart, we will have, at ourdisposal, the very Heart of God. Wemust transplant the Heart of Maryinto every heart that is filled withhatred of God and neighbor! TheMother of Fair Love will overcomehatred; the Maiden of the Lord willconquer pride: the Most HumbleOne will undo haughtiness; theImmaculata will overcome all moralcorruption and disorder that exists .

A TOTAL SUCCESS!

E veryw here, we see the sins of thewicked and the lukewarm: hatred of

religion, the fury of persecution ,immorality, injustice, cruelty andthe mad love of pleasure. A great lovehas won salvation for us and this Loveis disdained. We must make com-pensation! What can we do? Thosewho hate are legion; they are rich, they have great power and influence. There is no kind of heroism which asoul cannot achieve with the help of the Immaculata. Put on the Heart of Mary! As Queen of Martyrs, She givesus the only remedy for the cancerof universal hate: Prayer, Penance

and Consecration. D amnation and WarC ome from I NS Which is H atred !

LOVE THE I MMACULATA !

T he grace of Baptism is the grace of martyrdom! We must sacrifice our-selves without reserve to the adorableWill of God. To make reparation, torepair hatred with love, we mustoffer ourselves in the place of allthat should be offered to God but ,through man’s malice, is withheld

from Him. Love is symbolized by theheart and we can make no more

worthy offering than to unite all ourprayers, works and sufferings withthe Heart of Mary in order to repairthe outraged Heart of Christ.

T he C hild of Mary is ...A C hild of S acrifice,

A C hild of L oyalty,

A C hild of R eparation ! S acrifice is the flame, loyalty isthe material of the sacrifice, andreparation is the intention. He whonever opposes the will or the desiresof Mary and who, as completely aspossible, directs his life of loyalsacrifice to the glory of the Fatherfor the reparation of sin and thesalvation of the world, is another‘Christ’ to the fullest extent of hispower. There must be solidarity in oursuffering; we must make expiation forone another. Shall we not consentwillingly and joyously to unite ourefforts and suffer for one another? As children of Mary, we must offera double port ion of love to make upfor the indifference of the lukewarm, infidels, and the enemies of HolyMother the Church. Love of God,whom we see so ill served; love of theSavior whom we suffer to see so ill

repaid; love of souls whom we sufferto see so lamentably lost: this, then,

is the love that inspires reparation!Whether in the world or in thecloister, the child of Mary offers him-self with the Divine Victim of Calvaryto expiate the sins of the world. Byour own death to self, we can givelife to many souls and offer themthrough Mary to Jesus. For us, as forChrist, this death is but the supremeact of love. One who devotes himself to reparation is thoughtful enoughto realize the evil there is in the world, sensitive enough to suffer constantlyat the thought of it and generous

enough to want to expiate it by thesacrifice of himself. Will you undertaketo check the powers of evil and makereparation for the sins committedagainst the Sacred Hearts of Jesusand Mary? Will you? Forget your ownfailings; do not think of them anymore, leave them to God’s mercy.Think only of others; devote yourself to expiating the sins of others. God,seeing our true charity, the fire of our love, will insure that we havesufficient to expiate our sins and com-pensate for our own shortcomings.

S in and indifference deprive OurLord of love. Therefore, to make upfor this, we must give Him love. Ourhearts are poor and contain but littlelove ... let us give Him the Heart of Mary! One prayer breathed by theHeart of Mary in behalf of sinnersrenders to Him more love and glorythan all the saints and martyrs com-bined since the beginning of time.Let us exalt the Immaculate, preachHer devotion, pray Her Rosary, wearHer Scapular, carry Her in procession, and sing Her glories. Let us plant thisperfect love in the hearts of thewhole world. Let us honor Her to thelimit of our power, for She is beyondall praise. Let us honor Her with nofear of excess. That, which is above

Mary, is God alone. We will neverhonor Mary as much as Christ did ,

nor as much as He wishes us to honorHer. Mary is on a pedestal apart!Until the sun and the moon burn to

darkness, we - Her loyal children -must keep Her there!C ana must be repeated today.A wedding took place at Cana of Galilee, and the Mother of Jesus wasthere. And, the wine having runshort, the Mother of Jesus said toHim, ‘they have no wine’ . Jesusthen worked His first miracle. Howmany families today have no wine:the wine of faith, hope, love andgenerosity? Bring Mary into yourhome and into your hearts. She willwhisper to Jesus, ‘Son, this familyhas no wine.’ And, the Heart of Jesuswill be opened to us through theprayer of Mary. He will mercifullychange our watery faith, hope andcharity into the rich wine of HisDivine Love. A divine heart transplantwill gradually take place. The Fire of Divine Love will extinguish the deadlyhatred of sin.

letters come in requesting prayers:One carries the cross of sick-ness,another of childlessness; one speaksof persecution, yet another bears theweight of injustices that cry toHeaven for vengeance. Yes, yoursufferings certainly are very real, andyou have my full-hearted sympathy.

I t is not the sufferings and the crossesyou carry which break my heart, butrather it is your reaction to them! Iam not wounded because you are sick, childless, persecuted or depressed, noris it because you are jobless andwithout money. But, I am deeplymoved and wounded ... by yourblindness!

L et us drop the fiction, then, andlook at the facts: There were threewho hung on the crosses of Calvary –two were common thieves andmurderers, and the Other was theMaker of men. The thief on the leftof Jesus snarled, sneered andmocked, for he saw only a sorry messof a man – One Who was scourged, crowned with thorns and spit upon,a bleeding mass of wounds from HisHead to His spiked Feet – and so thisthief, with his dying breath, cursed

Jesus because he failed to recognizeHim as his God and his King! Thethief on the right looked beneath thewelter of wounds which clothed thenakedness of Jesus. Beneath His poor,thorn-crowned Head, this thief sawhis God! By an action of faith, and a plea for pardon, he stoleParadise!!!

I f you wish to be whatI desire you to be, a true,

red-blooded and full-bodied,C lear-visioned C hristian,

Y ou MUST learn to say“ F I AT”

A nd remake your world !

C ome, now, let’s be honest! Let’sface the truth squarely! It may sting, but it will strengthen . It may evensmart like iodine on an open wound, but it will prevent gangrene. Let uslook deeply inside ourselves, andstop merely gazing placidly at theoutside. Not only is it important forus to do this ... it is Eternallyimportant! In the past, I used theHoly Mass, the Sacraments, and

prayer to worship God – but what Ishould have been using were all mytrials and afflictions as well.

That things go the way they do – withdictators yelling, atheists overcomingthose who once were religious, war

bugles blowing – is due to the perversewill of man, true; but in the end, it is

due to the omnipotent and all-wiseWill of God. He allows things to go theway they do, for a very good reason. Itis by God’s Will, either directly withHis positive permission or indirectlywith His passive permission, that alltakes place. This is why our F I AT is everlastingly important.

G od will NEVERhurt me – T his is the T RUT H !

L ET ME STRIVE NEVERTO OFFEND H IM,

A nd let my prayerF orever be F I A T !

The Lord God does permit us to sufferin order that we may be sanctified. We must stop looking upon afflictionas castigation and recognize it as apowerful means of sanctification.Look to the One upon and beyondthe Cross! Say F I AT and remakeyour world! We pray for health, fora cure, for employment and, yet, when we do not get what we want,

WE WHINE! We do not complainbecause Christ is suffering in Russia,China, Rwanda and our own country.

OH, NO! We complain because it isWE who are suffering! This selfish-ness is suicidal! It is spiritual insanity! Are we forgetting that God is ourCreator and we are His children?

W e must stop looking at whatsuffering takes away from us andbegin to see what it can do for us.Forget that it hurts and realize that itcan purify and sanctify.

T his world is not Hitler’s nor is itStalin’s world. It is not the world of the Socialist, nor is it the Humanists’world. THIS IS GOD’S WORLD!It isGod Who permits the ache in myhuman heart, and God Who allows

the tears to flood my troubled eyes.God permits disease to strike my

limbs, and allows the burdens of family, and of business to crush me.All these things, though seeminglyweights, are truly gifts from a goodGod, intended to aid us on to glory!

L et us soar to God Who gave us life,Who sustains us in this life and Who,in death, will take us to Himself. Itcalls for faith, I know, but it calls moresurely for reason. Faith is always basedon reason, and my own reasoning isstraight as an arrow:

G od, Who is all good,R ules the world !

A ll things coming to youF rom your loving G od

A re meant for your good.T his is C lear. I t is L ogical.

I T I T R U E !S

I t is true that our difficulties ARE mountainous. Of this fact, there canbe no question. But we are notmining our miseries! Every singlemisery is loaded with precious oreupon which no price can be placed. We are not creatures of Time. Weare Children of Eternity!

C hristianity bows to the Will of God,Maker of mankind, Lover of oursouls. To this tremendous Lover, wemust go, but only as He wishes. Wemust travel along His way, theway of Calvary!

C hrist did much more than teach ushow to die – He expressly taughtus how to live! From His birth to Hisburial, by every act and action, Christmade clear His condemnation of allthat we have been taught by theluxurious 20 th Century! Rememberthe Sermon on the Mount: Blessedare the poor, the meek, those who

mourn, those who hunger andthirst for justice, peace and

mercy. These are the ones the worldscorns, abuses and hates. These arethe ones whom the world sneers atand pities; the ones who arecrushed by the materialism of ourday ... yet, these are the blessed ones! These poor are the ones to whomAlmighty God has promised theKingdom of Heaven if they but acceptall as His Holy Will. If we would liveworthy of our Christian name, wemust die! We must die to all that themodern world teaches. And, if welove Christ, then, we must live likeHim. The law of life is struggle. TheLaw of Christian Life is War! It is awar against Satan, self and sin. Wemust strive to change our tastes, forwhat we are calling treasure is verynearly trash! Assuredly, we know thatGod would give His Own Mothernothing but the best. He made HerImmaculate! He made Her HisMother; and the Trinity’s third great-est gift to Mary was to make Her‘Mother of Sorrows, Queen ofMartyrs, Consoler of the Afflicted’.

F rom the very beginning, this Lilyof Israel was a crushed and broken

bloom. Neither you nor I, nor anyoneelse will ever suffer as Mary suffered

and, through it all, Her one word, Herone prayer was FIAT! Mary’s Rosaryhas 15 long decades but the last 5 areGlorious. Our lives can be crownedwith glory if we but follow our Modeland always say, FIAT! If any mancome after Me, let him deny him-self, take up his cross ... and sayF I A T ! We must live the Sign of the Cross, for it is in this sign alonethat we shall conquer sin, conquerSatan and, above all, we shall con-quer the world! God gave to Mary thegift of suffering ... Nothing but thevery best for His own dear Mother!

I give you no sentimental Christ, forI do not want you to live a sentimentalChristianity. Let us be done now withanemia! Let us be nothing less thanfull-bodied, red-blooded and fieryfollowers of Our Lord Jesus Christ! He is God and, by His Own deliberatechoice, He embraced what our mad, modern Age tells us to avoid. Hefreely chose poverty, humility andsuffering, both physical and mentalsuffering. He chose the agony andthe cross. He sanctified all thesethings that we might read andknow His great Love! Truly, JesusChrist was a Man of Sorrows and, yet, surely there never was a happierman to walk the face of this earth!

A P aradox ?

O h, Y ES! A D ivine P aradox ! H appiness is not found on the out-side; it is found entirely within.Happiness is found in that onesimple word which frightens us so ...F I A T ! Give fire and flame to thecross which you are asked to carry.Remember that every blessing of theinfallible Church is given with thesign of God’s suffering and remember, too, that the Sign of the Cross is aninfallible Sign of God’s blessingupon those who bravely embracethe Will of God and say, F I A T !

I desire that my own death may be anact of the most perfect adoration andof the most humble submission thata poor creature can render to its wellbeloved Creator. May my voluntary, free and loving resignation to thedeath Thou hast ordained for me, serveto proclaim Thy sovereignty. My soulbows down to accept it. I wish to diefor love of Thee because Thou hast diedfor love of me. I wish to die becauseMary, my sweet Mother, died. I wish todie when and how and in the manner

which pleases Thee and under the circumstances determinedby Thee. I ask only one grace, to die in making this act of themost perfect love a creature can possess. I offer Thee my death asmy profession, let it be my irrevocable consecration to Thy SacredHeart. If it is not too rash, I beg of Thee the grace to suffer myPurgatory on earth that, without delay from my departure of thisworld, I may see Thy adorable Face. Grant that my last act of love onearth may be followed by an act of love for Thee in Heaven. Amen.

I am sending a picture of our littlemiracle baby, Katelyn. Our daughterwas found to have low estriol levelsand the doctor warned us of theserious complications the baby couldface: she might be born with web feet, retarded or, worse yet, suffer death inthe uterus. The picture did not lookgood. At that time, I sent you a letterand asked for prayers. The day arrived3 weeks early and Katelyn was bornweighing 6 lbs. 4 oz. You can see thatshe is perfectly healthy! Thank youfor your prayers and thank youSt. Philomena!!! < Peter - USA >

There was a boy of 10 years who hadcancer and heart complications andwas ready to die. There was no moneyto take him to the hospital for anurgent operation. The parents wereput in contact with my promoter whogave them the holy oil and enrolledthem in the Living Rosary. The sickchild rubbed the holy oil on all the

parts of his body and drank a few

drops. They offered a Novena of prayers to St. Philomena pleadingwith tears for her help. The boy wascured! He is now back at school andperfectly normal.< Fr. Patrick Philomena - KENYA >

W e need more Sacramentals. Theholy oil and cord are returninghealth to many souls ... “Our fundswere short and I applied for aloan. Our sorrows came to joy, extra funds were placed in oursavings miraculously!” My prayersare answered, I have been restoredwith my job; a woman’s eye wasbadly injured by evil spirits and shecould not eat or sleep because of thepain. I anointed her with the holyoil; something like a big stone lefther eye and now she is well again ...a baby sick with Malaria was veryweak and he could not suck hismother’s breast. L ydia and I are proud to announcethe birth of our new daughter. As Irelated to you in my earlier letter,we lost a baby through miscarriageon 4 th March 2006 – my birthday. Atthat time, we once again placed ourlives in the Heart of Jesus throughthe hands of Our Sorrowful Motherand Saint Philomena. We made apilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Ladyof La Leche in St. Augustine, Florida, and asked God to take away our painand grant us the gift of a new life.We were blessed most abundantlywith the birth of our daughter on 3 rd March 2008, almost 2 years to the dayafter our tragic loss. In honor of themany blessings and favors receivedthrough prayer, we have named herPhilomena Louisa . We thank youand the ULRA for the prayers andintercession on our behalf. Here isthe photo of our Little Princess. I amalso glad to report that, through theintercession of Ven. Pauline Jaricot,we have been relieved of over $78,000in student loan debt!

< Will and Lydia Cubbedge – ARLINGTON, USA >

H ere is one for Pauline! Our dog,Toby, suffered with diabetes. I took

him to the vet weekly to be checkedin order to determine the amount of insulin to give him. He was healthyduring this time, took two walks aday and ate well. Suddenly, Tobydeveloped kidney failure, becameweak and disabled. After readingabout Pauline Jaricot, I prayed to herfor a miracle, using the beatificationprayer. I prayed for Toby to be healedof his kidney failure. The next day,we went off to the vet again. The testscame back absolutely clear and thedoctor exclaimed, ‘It is a miracle!’

Dr. Wilborn was very impressed andhe asked for a few copies of theprayer to Pauline for himself.

H elen suffered such pain in her

abdomen and legs that she couldhardly walk. I noticed her struggle, and asked a lay person to help herreach the Altar for Communion.Later, I was able to give her the holySacramentals of St. Philomena. Thefollowing day, I saw the girl show upfor Mass. I was amazed! Standingstraight up and without support, shewalked to the Altar for Communion.

A girl, who met with an accident, was suffering for one year with anawful wound. She was scheduled fora severe operation. There was dangerthat her leg would be amputated.St. Philomena’s oil was applied tothe injured leg and her fear vanishedat once. The wound healed withoutsurgery and her eyes were filled withtears of joy. The people demandmore Medals, Rosaries and holy oil.

I have received your USPS. May Godbe praised! We believe the Living

I put the holyoil on the area and, in two days, theswelling was completely gone. Thewhole family enrolled in the LivingRosary. My little baby was really sickwith Malaria. At night, I sat down, prayed by his side, used the holy oilall over his body and prayed theNovena to St. Philomena for him.The boy was healed. The miracle

took place on the spot. I told myhusband, through the Rosary, wemay one day save the world. I amvery grateful and happy.

D earest Members and Benefactors of the Living Rosary,

I n our mission of the Living Rosary, weoften make hospital visitations. No onecan receive this care unless they pay thephysician. The drugs are very expensive; soon every corner, there are companies thatsell drugs. The people come to the hospitalwith their own medicines, food, bedding, soap and all materials. They must pay thenurses to give them shots and take care of them. It is a very stressful and expensivesituation for them. When people learn they

are sick, they write to us. We receive lettersevery day asking for the holy oil of SaintPhilomena and prayers as they wish totake part in the Decade. Many are healed, strengthened and brought back to theChurch. We distribute freely in the hospitalsthe booklets, prayers and sacramentals.

The Ukrainian Nation does suffer greatly from spiritual sickness and temptationswhich come from the West. Radio, night clubs, alcohol and drugs plague ouryouth. Our newsletter, The Voice of the Living Rosary , is read very avidly byteachers and students. The young children are excited to learn about St. Philomena.Since the cost of living is so high in Ukraine, many parents travel to Poland,Germany, Italy and USA to work. The youth live without their parents. It is a

great tragedy! There are many divorces and broken families. Your support andhelp is very vital to us in order to save souls. We promise you our prayers.

With respect and prayers, Fr. IVAN KOLODIJ

H eaven and Hell are locked in mortalcombat and the earth shakes from theshock of the encounter; but no onefeels it, no one sees it, no one hears it ...no one cares. The salvation of my soulis the most imperative and important

objective of my life on earth. It is thegreatest and grandest occupation inwhich I can engage. To serve the Motherof God is the highest privilege andpledge of eternal peace.

T he Brown Scapular is a gift fromHeaven and a symbol of salvation, fora true child of Mary is never lost. The Brown Scapular marks the militia of the Immaculate One. Before God’sAngels, it designates those who wearit as servants and slaves of creation’sQueen, specially beloved sons and

daughters of the Virgin who has crushedthe serpent’s head. It is a constant call to modesty in dress and conduct; a silentprotest against present-day permissiveness and a hidden appeal to reparation forthe insolent nakedness of proud neo-paganism! The Brown Scapular is likethe swaddling clothes in which Our Heavenly Mother wraps her spiritualinfants to protect them from the coldness of sin, to adorn them with the beautyof virtue and to warm them with God’s love.

T hrough the holy Scapular, Our Lady invites her children to purity and penancewhile shielding them from Satan and sin! The Brown Scapular is a vital part of the Message of Fatima. Sister Lucia tells us : “Our Lady wants all to wear theBrown Scapular. The Holy Father has told the whole world that the Scapularis to be a Sign of our Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. TheRosary and the Scapular are inseparable!”

“ One D ay, through the R osary a nd the S capular,
