MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
AGM Wednesday 14th September 6.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens rooms
Declaration Day!
On Sunday August 7th locals and supporters from around the district gathered at Suffoir Winery to send a message to the State and Federal Governments that the residents of the Macarthur/Bessiebelle area are overwhelmingly opposed to Unconventional Gas Extraction. This is
only one step in what could become a long campaign to protect country communities and farmland. It was disappointing that there were very few Macarthur residents in attendance. If we are to be successful in stopping
this form of gas extraction, we will need to work together as a community to protect the health of our people and our farmland.

Bowel Health -
A Naturopathic Perspective
The bowel is an important part of our body's ex-
cretory organ in removing solid wastes with liquid
out of the body. Maintaining a healthy bowel is a
crucial key to retain our physiological body in a
good state of homeostasis, to keep us away from
bowel problems such as constipation, irritable
bowel syndrome and bowel cancer. Any changes
in the color, texture or the presence of blood in
stools always warrant an immediate check up with
your medical practitioner.
To keep the bowel healthy, a large proportion of
our diet has to be made of low fat, high fibers from
fruits and vegetables. Cutting down consumption
of processed meat and eating more natural produce
will prove beneficial in the long run. Cultivating a
daily toilet habit will help to prevent constipation
and bowel toxemia (intoxication in bowel).
Daily consumption of 2 liters of water, apart
from other fluids will help to rehydrate our body
and the bowel, while taking food enriched with pro-
biotics (friendly bacteria) such as yogurt or kimchi
(fermented vegetables) will help to improve the
bowel's functions.
Holistically, reducing stress, adopting a new
healthy life style with a balanced diet, doing regular exercise and taking good rest will help to improve your bowel health.

Macarthur & District Historical Society
The Macarthur & District Historical Society Held
their AGM at the Macarthur Hotel on 21st July 2016.
A good turnout of 28 people attended including Life
Member Maurie Sullivan and guest speaker Cathie
Baulch.
The election of office bearers took place during the
dinner and they are:
President: Geoff Sharrock
Vice-President: Andrew Duyvestyn
Secretary: Bernie Warren
Treasurer: Roger Moodie
All financial members are committee members.
Guest speaker Cathie gave a very interesting and
informative talk on the disastrous Kirkstall Hotel on
the 18th March 1894. The fire claimed three lives, in-
cluding the Macarthur Hotel publican, Mr Thomas
James Humphreys. Mr Humphreys lost his life while
trying to save others. There were thirteen people stay-
ing at the Hotel that night.
Mr Humphreys was held in such high esteem in the
Macarthur community that 38 pounds was collected to
have a marble plaque made in his honour.
The Historical society are the caretakers of this
plaque and now the full story is known will erect it in
the Courthouse grounds with all relative information
beside it.
The restoration and painting of the Courtroom and
office has now been completed and it all looks really
good. The big job is now to put everything back
again. Secretary Bernie has the huge task of setting
up the office again. Nathalie Gash has kindly offered
her assistance to do this to do this. If anyone else
would like to help please give Bernie a call.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday 6th
October in the RSL Club rooms at 7.30pm.
I would like to take this opportunity to again thank
all the members for their support and assistance in
making the restoration project happen.

I don’t have the internet and would like to continue receiving a printed copy of the Macarthur
News.
My Name is………………………………………
Address…………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Remember, we are going digital!
Don’t miss out!
In order to continue providing a free monthly
paper we have decided to go digital. Currently we
distribute 300 copies of the Macarthur News to the
town and surrounding properties. The paper is print-
ed free but in order for this service to continue we
need to reduce the number of copies we print.
From November the paper will only be delivered
to households in Macarthur. People living out of
town can opt to have a digital copy emailed to them
each month. One of the advantages of a digital paper
is that it is provided in colour. Households without
the internet can request that a copy be sent to them by
post.
Registering for a digital copy is easy! Send an email
to the Editor at [email protected] with the
phrase “Mac News digital” in the subject box and we
will do the rest. Your email address will not be given
to any other party without your permission.
People requiring a copy by mail need to complete
the tear off section below and send to The Editor,
Macarthur News, 37 High Street, Macarthur 3286.
Remember, this applies only to people living out of
town at this time.
Once we have this process working properly we
will be looking at providing a digital copy for people
living in Macarthur so we would like to hear from
you too. If you would prefer a digital copy send an
email as above with the words “Mac News town digi-
tal.” For the time being all households in Macarthur
will continue to receive a printed copy of the paper,
but once the logistics are sorted out we will switch
you to digital as well.
Eventually we expect to only be printing enough
copies to cover households without the internet but it
will only work if you send us your details. Don’t
leave it till the last minute, contact us as soon as
possible so we can make sure no-one misses out on
their copy! A very big thank you to those people who
have already contacted me with their details.
