Objectives – 1. Identify the steps in the decision making
process. 2. Explain why it is important to practice
decision making. 3. Explain how any/all decisions impact a
person's quality of life/overall wellness. 4. List and describe factors that may influence
a person's decisions. 5. Analyze given scenarios and evaluate the
impact of the decisions.
Three Styles of Making Decisions
• Automatic
• Default
• Responsible
Three Styles of Making Decisions
• Automatic – The person using this style fails to think of
consequences and just acts on instinct. – This person also rationalizes or attempts to
justify their decision after they have made it rather than admit they were wrong.

• Default– In this style, a person allows
others to make his/her decisions or avoids making decisions at all.
• This person is easily influenced but what others think.
• This person may lack self confidence and have a need to be liked by others.
• This person may give control of the direction of their life to others.

• Responsible– Promotes health– Protects safety– Follows laws– Shows respect for yourself and others– Follows the guidelines of parents or other
responsible adults– Demonstrates good character
