Transcript of December SCOOP
High blood pressure affects two-thirds of people over age 65. Its as
common a disease as it is dangerous, increasing your risk for heart
disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, kidney disease, dementia,
and blindness.
Prevention and management strategies:
Eat for heart health. Follow the DASH diet, which includes
fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, nuts
and low-fat milk and milk products. Reduce salt intake.
Exercise. Aim for 30 minutes of an activity, such as brisk walk-
ing, on most days of the week.
Maintain a healthy weight. Get moving and reduce your calo-
ries.
Manage stress. Enjoy a favorite hobby, exercise, try yoga, tai
chi, and meditation, start a journal in which you write down
something that you are grateful for each day, have lunch with a
friend.
Avoid tobacco smoke.
Take your medications as directed by your health care provider.
If you drink, limit alcohol.

Instructions Mix all ingredients except for
meatballs in crock pot.
Add meatballs and stir to coat them well. Put in crock pot on
LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 2
-2½ hours.
Notes Note: If you have a newer crock
pot, you can probably reduce the
cooking time some.
Wal-mart has approved a grant for us and will be giving us money to purchase a new flat screen TV. After this is all completed we can get back to getting decorations up. Thank you for your patience. SAFE HOUSE NEEDS Betty Jo Embry volunteers her time at the Safe House in Wichita. They offer warm meals and backpacks to homeless children in the Wichita area. They are needing some toiletry items such as deodorant, soaps, and shampoos for either boys or girls. If you would like to donate you can drop them off at the Center.
REMINDERS (VERY IMPORTANT) Just a friendly reminder to make sure that every time you attend a program or class at the Center that you are checking in on the comput-er. If you do not have your card you can use your phone number. If you have problems let me know and I will help you. Also if you need a card, please let me know. UPDATING You may start to notice a few changes at the Center. We are working towards getting new chairs and this means we need to sell the oth-ers. We will be doing this slowly. Also the main TV is broken and not worth the money to fix so we will be getting rid of this as well.

Carry-In Lunch Tues 11-10-2015
Pam recognized Cleta Cornett and Becky Estes as our November birthdays present.
Marlene led the group in the reciting of the Flag Salute and The National Anthem.
Turkey and dressing were furnished by the Center. Thank you to Farol for
preparing it.
Our speaker was Lois Croft from Heartland Home Health, who spoke about
strokes and what to look for. She will be holding a seminar on Wednesday,
December 9th with more information on strokes.
Winners of our game on the number of family members were in the service, and
the unusual voting circumstance experience were Mary Bacon and Pamela Riggs.
They each received a small prize. With Veterans Day being the following day, Mar-
lene told of the background and times that have become a national holiday.
Announcements:
Pam told of receiving a Wal-mart grant to be used for the purchase of a new wall-
mounted flat screen TV. This will come in useful for various presentations future
speakers might need. There is a special fundraiser through the local Pizza Hut to
go towards the purchase of new chairs for the facility.
Upcoming events include going as a group to an afternoon matinee of The Nut-
cracker ballet at Century II in December. Also there will be a party bus to go visit
holiday lights in and around Wichita on December 21st. There will be sign-up
sheets for both activities at the Center.

Secretary
