PTA/FOB Minutes for Beethoven Elementary 12-9-09

PTA

Treasury Report – LoisWe sent out $840.00 for membership, spent $202.00 for insurance and $80.00 for an eyedoctor. We now have a balance of $3,535. 47. Coming up, we will need to spend$187.00 for T-shirts for the PTA classroom winners.

Holiday Gift Baskets – Our food drive goes till December 11th. It is going well. We have names for 14 families.Mrs. Morales will make the calls. They will need help sorting and putting together the baskets on the 14th and 15th. They still need bags of rice. The baskets will be pickedup/distributed after the Holiday Program. Elizabeth said that Peach Tree Pottery collectedtoys and will donate them to us. Kristen – We should try and have the baskets picked up

 by parents at the program or we may get stuck with some.

Monday Morning Coffee – This has been approved. We will be selling coffee outside of the parent center. It will bedonated by Starbucks and will have lids for safety. Kristen asked if we could sell coffeethe morning of the Holiday Program. Also, we could sell donuts and Bear Wear.

FOB

Expense Report – Checking account balance is $24,500. Entertainment books sales end this week. We made

$200.00. We sold 17.

Holiday Boutique – We made $1,499.99. Next year we will be moving it to Mark Twain because there ismore room.

Movie Night – Diana TateWe made $700.00. We need lights by the cafeteria. Our next one is in January.

Santa on a firetruck is coming to Beethoven on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Bookfair – MichelleWe are setting up this Thursday. We need people to sign up to help in the bookfair. It is buy one, get one free. The theme is Destination Bookfair Around the World. We needsomeone to go to AAA and get maps, etc. Ashley volunteered. If anyone has items fromother countries that we could display, please bring them in Thursday the 10th. The bookfair will be open Friday. Mark Twain is also having a bookfair this week. It is also buy one, get one.

Holiday Program – KristenWe need help all day Wednesday and Thursday with decorating the auditorium. The kids’artwork needs to be put up. The essay/art contest is over. The winner will be announcedon Monday at the assembly. Kristen needs a couple of spools of red satin ribbon (1/2 “

wide) for laces on red shoes. She also needs four boxes wrapped for the kinder instruments. Diana volunteered. She also needs miniature candy canes. Kerry will getthem. They also need paint brushes/rollers tomorrow. The kids are painting furniture.John said they can use some tools in the shed. People want to know what the kids arewearing for the program. Most will just wear nice clothes, nothing fancy, but no t-shirts,etc. Thanks to everyone, they’ve had a lot of help this year with the program.Practice/dress rehearsal will be Wednesday at 8:30 and 10:30.

Beethoven’s Night Out – AngiIf anyone has any requests for restaurants, e-mail Angi at [email protected] were requests for Villa Italian, C & O and CPK.

Mark unveiled a banner we received from LAUSD for being an API 800+ Honor School.John wants to know if we can write a press release and send it to the Argonaut. Someonewants to know if we can get the graffiti off the school.

Beautification – JohnThere is a lot of movement right now. We are 1 of 4 schools in the running to get a half million dollars from bond money. In the short term, we have $25,000 to make someoutdoor courtyards.

Corporate Sponsorship – JohnWe need to make some big money and corporate sponsorship may be the way to go. Wecould do a 5K and get corporate sponsors. John will talk to the guy that sets up these 5ksand will do more research. Everyone seems to like this idea.

Car Show – Mark and AshleyFitness challenge is in March, so we may do the Car Show April 12th.
