A Message From Pastor David I have discovered that many mes we encounter things in life that we are just not equipped to handle.

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treat-

ment. The next week, the man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an ear-

ly morning business ight to Chicago. Not wanng to be the rst to break the silence (AND LOSE), he

wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM." The next morning the man woke up, only to

discover it was 9:00 AM and that he had missed his ight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his

wife hadnt woken him when he noced a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM.

    Wake up"

You see, men are just not equipped for this sort of contest.

We face those contests in life that we are just not equipped to handle. Yet, I am reminded of Pauls

leer to Timothy that reads . . . All Scripture is inspired of God and benecial for teaching, for reprov-

ing, for seng things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that theman of Godmay be fully com-

petent, completely equipped for every good work. (emphasis added)

The word equipped in its original language means; to equip, or furnish; to be thoroughly prepared

or furnished; or to complete, or nish. If you were fully equipped to go camping, you would not

need anything else. You would not need a camping booklet on safety or a book on how to cook out-

doors. If you did, then you were not completely equipped. The Apostle Paul here is saying that God

has provided all that a Chrisan needs to be fully equipped through His Word.

The term equip means to cause something to be ready for its assigned purpose. In its original usage,

equipped was used in the following ways; broken limbs being healed and made useful again; shing

nets being mended and thereby able to catch sh; and ships being ed with ropes and sails and read-

    ied for sea.

What does it mean to be adequate, equipped? Think of a painter going to job without tools, paint, lad-

der, etc. Or think of trying to put together a bicycle, a swing set, etc. without having all of the parts!

Being equipped means having the necessary knowledge, having the necessary tools, and having the

ability to put it all into pracce.

We may not be equipped to compete in those occasional marital conicts; but through His Word, we

are equipped and are being equipped to fully complete the purpose for which we were born. As we

think forward to next year in what areas do you need to be EQUIPPED? How do you need to assist

others in being EQUIPPED? What tools do you need to accumulate in order to have all the necessary

    EQUIPment?

Expressions of Worship:Set your calendars for July 22-29, 2012. We are planning a trip back to Honduras to connue our work there

with local churches and community outreach. In years past, we have constructed things like Sunday School

classrooms, church buildings, and latrines. We have also held childrens events like Vacaon Bible School and

oered training and encouragement to church leaders. All of our eorts have been met with welcome arms

in the churches as well as the communies that we seek to reach for the sake of the Gospel.

For the past year, we have been praying about what opportunies are available for us to make a

great impact on a community that extends beyond the walls of a church or a specic number of missions

trips. As we have prayed, we believe that God is leading us to make a dierence in a community throughmeeng very specic needs that extend beyond the church. One of the things that we noced on a trip two

years ago was that many of the communies and people groups are very limited in their capacity to provide

their families with sustainable crops that could provide both a healthy diet as well as a potenal income to

purchase other necessary food items. Many of the families that we encountered had no means or knowledge

of growing new types of crops that could provide those resources for them. We believe that meeng a com-

munitys needs through such a program would oer local groups of believers a ministry that exceeds the pro-

jected scope of a typical construcon project.

One of the main projects we are planning this July is the creaon of a community vegetable garden

along with the development of organic compost. This project is designed to teach, train and benet many

families in the church and community. The vision of this project is to promote community relaonships while

teaching these farmers to produce dierent kinds of vegetables for their families. For generaons, these

people have been planng only corn and beans because that is the only thing they know how to plant and

grow. Through this project, they will be educated on the proper me for planng dierent vegetables as well

as rotang crops and making beer use of their open elds. Eventually we hope to see them producing in-

come for their families by selling their vegetables.

The second project we are planning is the construcon of latrines. Even though such a project lacks

the luster of a church building or a house, each latrine provides the answer to a very basic need. While gar-

dening might provide ample resources for a family, healthy gardening is vital to the sustainability of such a

project. One of the ways that this is accomplished is the proper placement and implementaon of latrines

that are designed to keep human waste away from elds that

    grow food for human consumpon.

One of the areas in greatest need for both of these pro-

ject is Nueva Palmira, in the Yoro area. Please begin praying aboutyour desire to aend, sponsor, or pray for these projects this

    coming July. Two informaonal meengs will be held in January;

Wednesday, January 4th at 8pm in the conference room and Sun-

day, January 8th, at 12pm in the conference room. If you are in-

terested in parcipang, please make plans to join us for one of

the two mes. More informaon will be provided regarding loca-

on and cost at that me.

    Your Servant in Christ,

    Pastor Terrill

    What is Advent?

When is Advent celebrated? | History of Advent

From an online arcle by Bob Robertson

Prior to the Navity Celebraon of

Christmas Day, Advent refers to the holy

season of the Chrisan church which cel-

ebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. It begins

on the Fourth Sunday before Christmas

and ends on the 25th of December. As

the commencement of the Chrisan year,

the Advent Season holds a special place

    in the Chrisan tradion.

    The History of Advent

The word "advent" comes from the Lan

term for "coming," and refers to the rst

and second Comings of Jesus Christ, in

the senses of Savior and Judge, respecvely. The rst authoritave menon of Advent appears in the

Synod of Lerida (AD 524), and the season has been recognized since as the beginning of the western ec-

clesiascal (church) year. The celebraon originally began as a period of fasng, similar to Lent. Alt-

hough the pracce of abstenon was later relaxed, Advent retains the spirit of atonement and peni-

    tence.

    Advent Wreaths and Calendars

In western cultures, the four Sundays of Advent are oen celebrated with Advent wreaths decorated

with four candles. Made from evergreens, the circular wreaths symbolize eternal life and the endless

nature of God's love. Three of the candles are purple or blue while the fourth is typically rose-colored or

    pink.

One candle is lit each Sunday of the season. The rose-colored candle is lit on the third Sunday, which is

considered to be a more fesve day than the others. On Christmas Day, a h candle (known as the

"Christ Candle" and oen white in color) is lit in the center of the wreath, or may replace it altogether.

Advent calendars are also popular during the season. About 25 small compartments are created, oen

through the use of mulple sheets of cardboard or through sewn pockets. These are lled with seasonal

messages, religious pictures, small chocolates, stories, or toys, depending upon the parcular calendar.

...The Season of Advent remains one of the most important mes of the Chrisan year. It celebrates the

blessing of the birth of Christ, and reminds the faithful of his eventual return.
