Through the month of No- vember the Madison County High School FFA collected can good items to donate to the Madison County Food Bank for the Thanksgiving season. In a three week time period the FFA Chapter members and agriculture students collected 503 can good or non perishable items to donate. On the Friday be- fore Thanksgiving Holidays the chap- ter boxed and deliv- ered the over 500 food items to the Madison County Food Bank just in time for the holi- days. That’s on av- erage one can per student in the FFA Chapter. “There are so many who do not have enough to eat on a daily bases right here in this county and while we are all eat- ing our Thanksgiving Day meal and have lots left over there will be some that have noth- ing.” MCHS FFA Advisor, Trisha Lastly says. “This is just our small way of helping others and teaches our students to serve others.” The MCHS FFA Chapter is also collecting toys for tots through the month of De- cember for Christ- mas, can tabs throughout the en- tire school year for Ronald McDonald House, for those children with cancer and will be making and packaging box- es for the soldiers and sending the care packages overseas. Recently Bailey Seabolt traveled

to the State Floral Design Career

Development Event, held in Tifton,

GA at Abraham Baldwin Agricultur-

al College. Bailey worked very

hard for weeks on perfecting her

floral designing skills. In the State

Junior Floral Design CDE student

would have to make two of the

following designs: bud vase, cen-

ter piece, boutonniere or corsage.

The contest is timed and judged

by actual florists. This year the

contests had to make a boutonni-

ere and a corsage in 1 hours time.

Bailey placed Madison County FFA

member’s highest, 4th. There

were 12 students in the State

CDE and they had all qualified on

the area level first placing either

1st or 2nd. Congratulations to

Bailey and all her hard work to

make it to that state CDE and

place as high as she did. Also she

would like to say a special THANK

YOU to the Danielsville Florist and

to Jeff Studwell at Daffodil Hill for

all of their support and work with

her practicing.

Kevin also had to show safety skills,

take a problem solving test, give a

speech over wiring and take a gen-

eral knowledge test. Kevin Jones,

MCHS junior will travel to the STATE

CDE in a month’s time to compete in

the state wide wiring contest in Fort

Valley. Kevin’s mother and father are

Joe and Cindy Jones of Commerce.

The Madison County High School FFA

member Kevin Jones recently com-

peted in the Area 2 FFA Jackson EMC

wiring Career Development Event.

The event was held on December

10th, 2011. Kevin Jones, placed 2nd

out of more than 20 students in the

Area II Wring CDE. This contest allows

the student to demonstrate their

skills in not only their wiring skills but

Morgan Dooley. This team placed 6th in

the contest where they had to measure

slope, grade land and recommend the

land for productions. This

team was trained by Josh

White.

Stephanie Hilburn competed in

the event of Job Interview and also placed

6th on the State Level. Stephanie had to

develop a resume, interview for a job, fill

out an application and write a follow up

letter to the employer. Job Interview is

trained by Kay Farmer.

In the event of Land Judging the

Madison County FFA Senior Team trav-

eled to Tifton, GA and competed on the

state land judging CDE.

This team consisted of

MCHS FFA December Newsletter

The MCHS FFA Agricultural Mechan-

ics Team recently competed in the

Area 2 FFA Agricultural Mechanics

Career Development Event. The

event was held at Franklin County

High School on December 8th. Team

members Kevin Jones, team high

individual and overall 2nd high indi-

vidual in the contest out of more

than 60 students in the contest,

senior Mark Pullam, Judd Stratton

and Dusty Guest participated in

individual problem solving and skill

development activities and took a

written examination.

The event included sub-

ject matter associated

with machinery and

equipment systems and

energy systems. This

team placed 6th and re-

ceived a gold emblem for

their ranking in the top

1/3 of the teams com-

peting. This team was

trained by the agriculture

mechanic teacher, Josh

White.

they placed each class as they did. MCHS FFA

ninth grade FFA Livestock Judging CDE

team members included: Travis Tankersley

and Levi Simmons and Makayla Kellum.

Both junior and senior livestock judging

teams were trained by MCHS Agricultural

Teacher and Young Farmer teacher Mrs.

Cindy Jones.

The Madison County FFA Livestock Judging

Team recently placed 4th in the Area 2 Senior

FFA Livestock Judging Career Development

Event (CDE). Also competing in the junior

event was Madison County High School ninth

grade FFA members. The junior FFA Livestock

Judging team placed 16th. The Livestock Judg-

ing CDE allows agricultural education students

the opportunity to make accurate observations

of livestock, determine the desirable traits in

animals, make logical decisions based on their

observations, and discuss and defend those

decisions. Participants place classes of breed-

covering the horticulture

industry. The Madison

County High School FFA

Agriculture Communica-

tions CDE Team recently

placed 6th out of more than

15 teams, in the Area II

FFA Agriculture Sales Career Develop-

ment Event (CDE). The event was held at

Oconee County High School in Watkins-

ville, GA on November 15th, 2011. Team

members included Bri Kittle, Jordan Lunds-

ford, Brittany Moore and Justin Stanley.

High individual on the team was MCHS

junior, Jordan Lundsford. Each team mem-

ber had to compete in two areas of the

contest, the sales test of 25 multiple choice

questions, which tested the students’

knowledge on sales strategies and rules.

The MCHS Ag Communication team placed

9th at the area contest. Team members

included: Chyenne Gordon, Kate Russum

and Jessica Baxter. These ladies had to

read and correct newspaper articles.

enjoys proofreading the papers

and learning about different types

of advertisement. She has com-

son County High School and was

chosen for our chapter’s Decem-

ber student spotlight because of

her activity within our FFA chapter.

She enjoys taking agriculture clas-

ses because she enjoys doing

things hands on in the classroom

and learning by doing. She takes

what she learns in the classroom

and is able to apply it in her super-

vised agricultural experience. Jes-

sica’s SAE is poultry production

where she has to feed and water

the chickens and make sure they

stay healthy and she picks up

eggs two times a week.

She has also been able to

take what she learns in the class-

room and use it in various career

development events. She has

tions, Leadership Conferences

and this past summer the Natural

Resource and Conservations

Camp at ABAC. Jessica will also be

interviewing for the Governor’s

Honors Program in the area of

Agriculture.
