IMPORTANT SMP VOLUNTEER NOTES: Thank you for your generous donation of time and support to our Community! SMP Volunteer Events are open to ALL Active Duty, Dependents, DoD, and their guests. LOA’s are typically available for all SMP Volunteers within 5 business days at the SMP Front Desk. Transportation provided to Active Duty, with priority given to single/unaccompanied Active Duty Service Members, unless otherwise specified. We update our website often with additional volunteer opportunities that are not on this calendar! Please also ensure to check our website for any changes in event details. If you are POV’ing for any volunteer events, please pick up an SMP POV Volunteer Log at the SMP Front Desk, available anytime! Please turn in your completed SMP POV Log to the Front Desk within 14 days, so

we can start processing your LOAs. LOAs will be processed once confirmed. Please dress for weather!

DECEMBER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Toys for Tots Volunteer Opportunities! Please see our website for all current Toys for Tots Volunteer Opportunities. Thank you! Clean Sweep (12/1)! POV only in downtown New Bern. Starts at 1400. Please see our website for all details! Craven County Habitat for Humanity (12/3, 12/10, and 12/17). Assist with Habitat’s newest builds and projects in New Bern. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will

return around 1300. Please wear closed toed shoes, and weather appropriate civilian attire. Breakfast with Santa (12/4, 12/5, and 12/7)! Help with set-up and/or tear down of the Carolina East Foundation Breakfast with Santa Event!

o Wednesday, 12/4. Assist with event set-up and decorating! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700; will return around 1430. Lunch provided! o Thursday, 12/5. Assist with event set-up and decorating! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700; will return around 1430. Lunch provided! o Saturday, 12/7. Assist with event tear down, loading and unloading Holiday supplies. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1400; will be completed around

1800. Food provided! Bangert Elementary School Jingle Bell Trot (12/5). Assist with this fun holiday event which features spectacular Christmas lights! Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700;

will return around 2030. Trees for Troops (12/6) - on base at the Hancock Marina. Assist with this awesome event by helping to transport and load trees onto vehicles! Please dress

warmly and bring gloves (civilian attire). Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will be completed late morning. (***Please check our website as times may shift slightly for this event).

Craven County Law Enforcement Officers Association Shooting Range Beautification (12/6). Help with a variety of clean-up and beautification projects. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700; will return around 1300. Breakfast and lunch included.

Havelock Annual Christmas Parade (12/7). Assist Havelock Parks and Recreation with the Havelock Christmas Parade! Will be helping with lining up vehicles/floats and directing parade and civilian traffic. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0615; will return around 1300.

Empty Bowls Veterans Wood Finishing Workshop (12/7). Volunteer with our Craven County Veterans Council! Support our local homeless out by assisting with this great event with other local Veterans. We’ll be finishing wood items; no skill required and all materials/refreshments provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1230.

Breakfast with St. Nicholas at Annunciation Catholic School (12/7 and/or 12/8). Assist Annunciation Catholic School with this great Holiday event! Times TBD, and will be posted to our SMP website.

Hurricane Florence Recovery in Pollocksville (12/11 and 12/13). Assist with Hurricane clean-up in downtown Pollocksville. Please wear long pants, long sleeved t-shirt, boots and weather appropriate attire. Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0730; will return around 1600. Chow provided!

Wreaths Across America (12/14). Assist with laying wreaths at New Bern National Cemetery during this important event. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0915; will return around 1330. Attire is dress Blue Bravos. Media will be present.

Chicod Elementary School Holiday Dinner (12/14). Join our friends over at Chicod Elementary School as they say a special Holiday thank you to our SMP. Dinner will be included! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 1530. Will return around 2130. Service uniform of the day, please. Transportation is available for 39 volunteers.

39th Annual Masquerade: A Candlelight Christmas Celebration at Tryon Palace (12/14 and 12/21) POV only. Assist guests at Tryon Palace with a variety of Holiday themed activities. Volunteer pre-registration is required please with Pam Gray ([email protected]) and volunteer spots fill up fast! Proper civilian attire please. Toys for Tots opportunities for this event also available.

Ft Macon State Park Special Projects (12/18). Assist with cleaning up Ft. Macon Beach and Trails and other special projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Please bring sunscreen, closed toed shoes, hat, bagged lunch (or $ for lunch), and water source.

Autism Society of Newport (12/19). Help with beautification projects at the Autism Society of Newport! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0815; will return around 1300. Lunch and beverages provided!

Carteret Landing Assisted Living (12/20). Visit with our local Veterans and Assisted Living Residents in the Horizons Memory Unit during lunch time! Attire is proper civilian attire. Please meet at the Roadhouse at 1000; will return around 1330.

MCCS Youth Sports Coaching (on-going). Volunteer on base as a Youth Sports Coach! (Basketball coaches are needed). Please contact Youth Sports at 252-466-5493. Training meeting is on 28 October from 1830-2030, however, training can be provided after this date if coach positions are still vacant. Volunteering is 3 to 5 hours per week (two 1-hour practices and games are on Saturday mornings).

Animal Shelter (every Saturday). Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700.

Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday). Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is proper civilian attire. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Will return around 2000. Please check our website for dates that are POV only.

Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required.

Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity. POV only. Assist with the newest build in Sea Gate, Newport! (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Please contact Michelle Riggs at [email protected] for additional info and to register.

WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer!

UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS: Army Navy Game (12/14)! Come out and enjoy this time honored tradition at the Roadhouse! Game scheduled to kick off at 1500! SMP Council Meeting (12/12 at 1400 at the Roadhouse). NEW TIME! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and

QOL concerns. Starts at 1400 for SMP Reps and 1500 for SEAs! SMP Ugly Holiday Sweater Party (12/12 @ 1930 – 2300). Celebrate the Holidays with SMP’s Annual UGLY HOLIDAY SWEATER PARTY!! Free pizza, wings, snacks,

and drinks (if you wear your Holiday sweater and while supplies last)! Tons of games and awesome music. FIVE prizes awarded to winners in the following categories: 1. Tackiest. 2. Brightest/Loudest. 3. Most Creative on a Budget. 4. Bringing Vintage Christmas Back 5. Most amount of Christmas décor used.

Funny Ornaments, Tacky Christmas Cards, Crazy Stocking Stuffer Nite (12/12 @ 2100). Leave classy at the door We’re making “unique” ornaments, Christmas cards and “one-of-a-kind” stocking stuffers. All supplies provided.

Christmas Shenanigans Movie Festival (12/9 and 12/23). Enjoy all of your favorite Holiday themed movies! SMP Christmas Eve Party (12/24 @ 1930). Stop by the Roadhouse for a night of games, music, snacks, Holiday Shenanigans, movies, karaoke, and fun! Please see

our website for additional details! SMP Christmas Dinner!!! (12/25 at 1400) FREE!!! Enjoy Christmas with SMP!! On Wednesday, December 25th, SMP will provide a free Christmas Dinner (with all

of your Holiday favorites!) for Single and Unaccompanied Marines and Sailors, as well as those on duty. Dinner will be served at 1400 at the Roadhouse. Other activities include: White elephant gift exchange (all gifts provided by SMP), cookie eating contests, board games, and tournaments. If you’re on duty, we will bring a meal to you!

New Year’s Eve Party (12/31 at 2000). Come pre-party or ring in the New Year at the Roadhouse with SMP! Awesome food and beverage specials all night! College Saturday and Tailgate Sundays!! (every Saturday and Sunday). SMP Colleges Saturdays and SMP Tailgate Sundays are here!!! Come enjoy your favorite

football games, great company, and great Roadhouse specials!! (*** Last SMP College Saturday is 12/14). Bible Discussion Group! Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. Fridays! Karaoke!! Starts at 1900!

UPCOMING TRIPS: Arlington Trip (12/13/19 through 12/15/19). Join SMP on a trip to Arlington, VA to take part in “Wreaths Across America” Wreathing Laying Ceremony, enjoy free

time in Washington DC, and a visit to the Marine Corps Museum!! Cost of the trip is $200 and includes transportation and 2 nights lodging! Trip is being facilitated by Camp Lejeune/New River SMP, and Cherry Point will provide transportation to/from Camp Lejeune. Very limited space available.
