SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Kindergarten Survey
• Survey available on-line• Pop-up on the webpage at oess.org• Sent to local papers and social media• E-blasted to parents• Posted on Facebook• People were asked to kindly forward it to other parents of preschoolers who might not know about it
• Open until December 30th

Kindergarten Survey• There is no immediate curricular need• 85% of 2013 kindergarteners Level 4 readers or above• 91% at or above the STAR Early Literacy grade-level expectation• 97% met the Math Expressions grade-level benchmark. • As 1st graders, 58% met the 'end-of-the-year benchmark‘ on the beginning of the year math placement test
• DRG B – 9 of the 20 DRG districts have full-day• No state requirement for full-day• .84 is already partially extended (over typical .5 day)
Why Survey?
• It is one of the goals in the ‘Strategic Plan’• Based on the LRP committee’s community survey• Some parents may be interested in a longer day
• We do not yet have a formal proposal for the BOE• Based on survey data• Several options are being considered, including a 21st Century program at MLT for 4 and 5-year-olds• Pilot

Why?
Cars… •Must stop when school bus lights are flashing.•Must stop -- even if approaching bus from the opposite lane.• Can’t drive forward until the red lights stop flashing.
