Welcome

But for me it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28 We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to Him through the merit of Christ cru-cified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that He will draw near to us (James 4:8). If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the Friendship Register to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. May our gracious Lord draw wonderfully near to you in this service today.

All: Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, Leader: who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, All: who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates! Hymn #198

All Verses

Songs of Praise (11:00 a.m.) (Ushers will seat late arrivals at this time)

Days of Elijah

These are the days of Elijah Declaring the Word of the Lord And these are the days of your servant Moses Righteousness being restored And though these are days of great trials Of famine and darkness and sword Still we are the voice in the desert crying Prepare ye the way of the Lord

Behold He comes! Riding on the clouds Shining like the sun! At the trumpet call Lift your voice! It's the year of Jubilee And out of Zion's hill salvation comes

And these are the days of Ezekiel The dry bones becoming as flesh And these are the days of your servant David Rebuilding a temple of praise And these are the days of the harvest The fields are as white in the world And we are the laborers in your vineyard Declaring the word of the Lord There's no one like Jehovah (repeat)

The Confession of Faith

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell.* The third day He arose again from the dead; He as-cended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic** church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Suffered separation from God **universal (Not of one single nation or denomination)

The Gloria Patri (8:30 a.m.)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen, amen.

The Confession of Sin

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace

“To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” —Acts 10:43

The Hymn of Pardoning Grace (8:30 a.m.)

What Wondrous Love Is This Hymn #261

All Verses As with Gladness Men of Old (11:00 a.m.)

As with Gladness men of old Did the guiding star behold As with joy they hailed its light Leading onward, beaming bright So, most gracious God may we Evermore be led to Thee As with joyful steps they sped To that lowly cradle-bed There to bend the knee before Him whom heav’n and earth adore So may we with willing feet Ever seek Thy mercy seat As they offered gifts most rare At that cradle rude and bare So may we with holy joy Pure, and free from sin’s alloy All our costliest treasures bring Christ, to Thee, our heav’nly King

The Prayer Time with The Lord’s Prayer

Pastor: The Bible urges that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions. Congregation: God in heaven, we pray for our civil leaders, that they might be wise and honest and courageous, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Pastor: Lord Jesus, you carried your cross on the wounded stripes of your back, for love of us and for the world. Congregation: We pray for the nation of Algeria, in northern Africa. In this nation of 35 mil- lion people, with 34 million being Mus- lim, please grant faith and draw many to Christ. Protect missionaries. Spread wide publications and media that com- municate the Gospel clearly. Pastor: We are commanded to go and make disci- ples of all the nations. Congregation: Bless the work of missionaries and Christian ministries worldwide, espe- cially Jeff and Mischa Marlowe in At- lanta with MTW; and, Steve and Pat Mosely in Portugal. Bless their works, dear Lord. Supply all their financial needs. Give good health. Give wisdom in decision-making. Provide leaders for the nations. Raise up fruit from their labor. Pastor: Colossians 3:23 tells us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Congregation: Guide us, Lord, in all of our occupa- tions. May we be effective and kind and trustworthy in all that we do. Pastor: Paul wrote, “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remember- ing you in my prayers.”

Congregation: Holy Father, make us a praying church, diligently praying for others. We pray that you would comfort those in our presence who are hurting – as many, no doubt, are grieving, are lonely, are en slaved to particular sins. Give wisdom to those in our presence who are mak- ing difficult decisions – about work, about family situations, about financial matters. Heal those among us who are suffering from sickness and disease. Pastor: Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Congregation: Lord, give us at Eastern Shore Presby- terian Church a love for one another. Please teach us the joy that comes in denying self. May we passionately fol- low the example of the Lord Jesus who did not come to be served but to serve and give His life for others. Enable us to give of ourselves and be spent in the cause of Christ. Pastor: We thank you for hearing the prayers of your people, O Lord. Enable us to believe that you love to hear from us. Enable us to believe that your smile is upon us, be- cause of who we are in Christ. Enable us to know these things and long to spend time with you. We pray in Jesus’ name, and following his example…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

All Verses

Not What My Hands Have Done (11:00 a.m.)

Not what my hands have done can save my guilty soul Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load Your voice alone O Lord can speak to me of grace Your pow'r alone O Son of God can all my sin erase No other work but Yours, no other blood will do No strength but that which is divine can bear me safely through I praise the Christ of God, I rest on love divine And with unfalt'ring lip and heart I call this Savior mine My Lord has saved my life and freely pardon gives I love because He first loved me, I live because He lives
