Dear Parishioners,

Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception! Because the Second Sunday of Advent takes precedent, the feast is transferred to Monday, December 9. We will celebrate the Feast at 12:00 Noon. It is a Holy Day but not one that obliges Mass attendance since it is on a Monday. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception recognizes the awesome reality that Mary was conceived without the stain of Original Sin. She is the first disciple, the first one to say YES to follow the Lord. We pray that through her intercession we came to also say YES to Christ every day of our lives. One of the great ways to grow in our relationship with our Blessed Mother is to pray the Rosary. A group of parish-ioners prays the rosary at 11:30 am on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, 8:30 am on Sunday, and at 9 am Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. They pray in the Ursuline Chapel. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

I am hosting a Mini-Mission on the Mass this Sunday and Monday, December 8 and 9. It is meant for parishioners of both SJC and SRW. It starts at 7:00 pm in the Church and will last one hour. It will be an opportunity for me to walk you through the two major parts of the Mass, explaining what we are doing and why we are doing it. There will be an opportunity for Q & A as well. This Advent, give yourself the gift of knowing more about the Mass.

As we prepare for Christmas: please remember to return your gifts or gift cards for the Advent Giving Tree and get your Ham, Sausage, and Coffee order in to the rectory office. As you make your plans, please plan time for Mass and Confession:

Welcome to the Church!

HOLY HOUR Jesus blesses our lives in so many ways and one way we have to return that love is to adore Him in the Blessed Sacrament. On Tuesday December 17th at 6:30 pm in the Church we will gather together to adore Christ as we reflect on and pray for all of our Extraordinary Ministers. All are invited to participate in a Holy Hour specifically for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Commun-ion, Lectors, servers, and all ministries of the altar. If there are any questions, contact Deacon Joe at the Rectory.

LUKE BROWN’S REFLECTION The holidays are upon us and I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and beginning of Advent! A common complaint I hear around this time of year is that people are struggling with family members. Old grudges are present, new members may not be accepted, some family members may choose to not be present, and tensions can be at an all-time high. When these struggles are present, they can take away from the entire holiday spirit of generosity, hospitality, and focus on Christ. They can also leave us with deep wounds and feelings of rejection and failure. The impact is often felt on our mental health and spir-itual lives as well. The difficult part for me as a counselor is that there is never a simple answer to these issues. The only thing we can do is continue to do our best to love others despite the differences that arise between us. Sometimes that means con-tinuing to welcome those family members that are challenging or do things that we don’t agree with. At times it means setting healthy boundaries and laying some ground rules for the upcom-ing event such as refraining from activities such as discussing political topics, using the event as an opportunity to confront someone, or gossiping about other family members. It may sound cliché, but do not let family struggles keep you from fo-cusing on the significance and meaning of the holiday. Also, remember that you are not the only family that has these issues. As with most of these things, people don’t often talk about them and we can feel like we are the only family that struggles. As we approach the holidays, consider praying and discerning how to best handle potential familial struggles, and remember that my door is always open to discuss these issues and brainstorm

potential solutions. Please know of my prayers for you and all of your families during this Advent season. 4

MINI-MISSION ON THE MASS WITH FR. JOHN.

Join Fr. John on December 8 and 9 at 7 pm in Ss. Robert & William Church for a “Mini-Mission” on the Mass. He will explain the Mass, part by part, to help you understand and love the Mass more. Please invite a friend or family member to join you. This will last one hour each night. It will include Q & A, so bring a question about the Mass to “stump” FJB. This is for both Ss. Robert & William and St. John of the Cross Parishes.

Once again, our parishioners have shown their gen-erous and caring natures! Thank you to everyone who shopped at our recent Ethical Trade Show. You made it our most successful show

yet! Besides supporting artisans in Third World countries, your generosity will enable us to add to our Water Project fund. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! – the SRW CRS Parish Ambassadors P.S.: A gentleman pur-chased one of the wooden puzzles. After the sale we found a piece which must have fallen off the puzzle. Please contact the rectory at 216-731-1515 to pick up the piece.
