the former Saint Teresa school building as we transform it into a new Pastoral Center.

Construction should be finished sometime in mid-January, and moving in lots of office furniture from four campuses will be loads of fun. We can’t wait!
In Other News: Our annual financial report for the year ending June 30, 2020 will be available shortly. It’s a rather unhappy reminder of the difficulties we’ve all been through, especially these past ten months. The parish has survived, thanks to the many who have been faithful to their financial commitment, but we need the support of everyone in order to continue to grow the vibrant parish we have begun to build...Stay tuned for more news…

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish
Celebrating the Nativity of the Lord Christmas Vigil Masses technically are to be celebrated in the “evening.” This year, given the global pandemic and the need for more opportunities to allow the faithful to participate in Christmas liturgies and the celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ, Bishop Zubik has permitted an earlier Mass is permissible “when warranted for the spiritual good of the faithful.” As a reminder, the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses remains in effect in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania. Our Lady of Mount Carmel will continue to livestream Masses celebrated at Saint Athanasius church, including Christmas Masses. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols must continue to be maintained, including social distancing of at least 6 feet between family groupings, mandatory mask-wearing, and cleaning and sanitizing procedures in between each Mass. Everyone must register for Christmas Mass. It's the only way we can guarantee everyone a seat. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but absolutely no walk-ins will be accepted for Christmas Masses. Registrations by phone must be received by 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 23rd and registration online must be submitted by Noon on the 23rd.

Long time no see! Let’s play catch up!
The Middle School and High School Groups both put in the best of efforts for just over two weeks to collect goodies for the Appalachian Christmas Project. With a goal (from me..) of making 100 boxes, we ended up making 105 boxes that were donated to the good people of Appalachia for a nice Christmas treat. If you donated goodies, money, or time, it is greatly appreciated! We look forward to doing this again next year!
Fun & New Things!: Were you at the 9:00 am Mass on November 8th?! If you were, maybe you noticed an entirely youth run Mass (bar the Priest for obvious reasons…). March For Life It may seem early, but plans are being made for the 48th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. On Friday, January 29, 2021. This peaceful demonstration near the somber anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest
human rights violation - legalized abortion on demand.
The bus is being sponsored by the K of C Art J. Rooney Sr., Council #9984 in partnership with OLMC Respect Life Committee. The day will begin with Mass at St. Bonaventure Church at 5:30 am and includes the Rally for Life on the National Mall and the March for Life along Constitution Avenue. The return bus leaves at 4pm and returns approximately 11:15pm.
Reservations are being requested early because the bus space is limited to 50% capacity due to Covid restrictions. Reservations are on a first paid/first served basis. Your reservation will be considered made when we receive your payment of $35 per person. Rights and Responsibilities: This article was in the January 5, 2014 bulletin, and applies to today, just at it did then. With over two thousand years of experience, our Catholic teaching is a timeless treasure. Our Catholic Social Teaching talks about rights and responsibilities. It seems that we live in a world where people feel that they have many rights, but few responsibilities. These two issues must go hand in hand for society to function. Every person has a fundamental right to life and right to those things required for human decency: faith and family, food and shelter, health care and housing, education and employment. Corresponding to these rights are responsibilities to one another, to our families and to the larger society. It is easy to see that parents are responsible for their children’s welfare. Adult children may end up being responsible for their parents’ welfare. But it is our duty to vote, and be active and knowledgeable concerning our political systems. We must pay taxes. Participating in jury duty is a necessity for our justice system to work. Unpleasant as some of these things may seem, our faith requires that we all do our part.

We have set out a food collection bin outside of Haber Hall at the St. Sebastian site. You can also drop off donations in the narthex at St. Athanasius Church when it is open or leave in the bin outside of Athanasian Hall. Thank You!

Second Sunday of Advent Advent is a holy season of preparation, and today’s readings emphasize our need to prepare for the Lord’s coming. But Isaiah also gives us words of comfort and hope. The Lord’s coming is a sign of God’s great generosity. The Second Letter of Peter tells us to conduct ourselves in holiness and devotion, echoing
John the Baptist’s call for repentance. As we prepare the way of the Lord, let the word of God inspire us.

Preparing a pathway in our lives Breaking Open the Word: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
Prepare the way of the Lord! The reading from Isaiah was written at the end of the Babylonian exile. The prophet helps the people
imagine their return from exile and the restoration of their land. Like the Exodus from Egypt, this new exodus from Babylon will reveal to all humankind the glory of the Lord.
Listen to the Word: Are there any words or phrases that intrigue or strike you? What touches your heart? What single image from the Prophet Isaiah lingers in your memory? Look into Your Life: Children: How do you experience God taking care of you even in times of trouble? Youth: John went out to announce the good news of the Messiah’s coming. How can you be good news to your friends and family this week? Adults: When you hear Isaiah comforting the people by promising that God is like - a shepherd who gathers the lambs into his arms, how do you feel or what is your response? Incarnate the Word: Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings. This Sunday’s readings call for change. What changes do you need to make in your life in order to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas? As a family discuss ways to prepare for God’s coming. Plan some way to bring God’s love at Christmas to someone who is less fortunate than your family.
