HAPPY NEW YEAR! SOLEMNITY OF MARY THE MOTHER OF GOD NEW YEARS EVE MASS: 5:30 PM NEW YEARS DAY MASS: 9:00 AM My New YearsResolution imagines what the world would be like if love conquered all. This is the mission of the child of Bethlehem. Jesus was born to fill this world with His love. The Christmas message is the story of Gods unconditional love for us. As the disciples of Jesus, we are called to fill this world with many other stories that mirror and give witness to Gods love for us. This is the wonder and the meaning of the Incarnation. Are you able to imagine your life in 2019 as filled with the Christmas message not just for one day, but to be a way of life for you in all of 2019. Jesus has come to fill our world with His love. Jesus is the light that overcomes the darkness of our life. Jesus enters our life to give us His life. He comes into our world to give us His love. What would 2019 be like for all of us to open ourselves to Gods plan for our lives? By this all shall know that you are my disciples, you are to love one another. So, in addition to our resolutions to devote more time to family life, to resolve to work more efficiently, and to become healthier by dieting and exercising, may we open ourselves to Gods resolution for us in 2019. Gods plan is for us to imagine a Church and a world in which love conquers our divisions, our fears, our anxieties, and any demons that tempt us to live our lives apart from God. The life of Jesus begins with Mary at the Bethlehem crib. Therefore it is most appropriate we begin the New Year with a Feast of Mary – Mary the Mother of God. There is no better model for us that Mary in opening ourselves to Gods plan for our lives. We know at the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to be the mother of our Savior and Lord, Mary worked through her fear and confusion and YES to Gods plan for her. With such an inspiring faith, Mary spoke these powerful words: I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done to me according to your Word. In contrast to the frenzy of our celebrations on New YearsEve, Mary pondered in silence and stillness in the Bethlehem crib. Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. As you watch the crystal ball drop at the stroke of midnight on New Years in Times Square, may we imagine a New Year in which love conquers all. May we imagine a New Year in which the spiritual power of the Christmas mystery sustains us to be the bearers of the mystery of Christmas -- God is with us. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

SOLEMNITY OF MARY THE MOTHER OF GOD

NEW YEAR’S EVE MASS: 5:30 PM

NEW YEAR’S DAY MASS: 9:00 AM

My New Years’ Resolution imagines what the world would be like if love conquered all. This is the mission of the child of Bethlehem. Jesus was born to fill this world with His love. The Christmas message is the story of God’s unconditional love for us. As the disciples of Jesus, we are called to fill this world with many other stories that mirror and give witness to God’s love for us.

What would 2019 be like for all of us to open ourselves to God’s plan for our lives? “By this all shall know that you are my disciples, you are to love one another.” So, in addition to our resolutions to devote more time to family life, to resolve to work more efficiently, and to become healthier by dieting and exercising, may we open ourselves to God’s resolution for us in 2019. God’s plan is for us to imagine a Church and a world in which love conquers our divisions, our fears, our anxieties, and any demons that tempt us to live our lives apart from God.

The life of Jesus begins with Mary at the Bethlehem crib. Therefore it is most appropriate we begin the New Year with a Feast of Mary – Mary the Mother of God. There is no better model for us that Mary in opening ourselves to God’s plan for our lives. We know at the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to be the mother of our Savior and Lord, Mary worked through her fear and confusion and YES to God’s plan for her. With such an inspiring faith, Mary spoke these powerful words: “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done to me according to your Word.”

In contrast to the frenzy of our celebrations on New Years’ Eve, Mary pondered in silence and stillness in the Bethlehem crib. “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.”

As you watch the crystal ball drop at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s in Times Square, may we imagine a New Year in which love conquers all. May we imagine a New Year in which the spiritual power of the Christmas mystery sustains us to be the bearers of the mystery of Christmas -- God is with us.

Have a Blessed Day and a Blessed New Years!

Solemnity of Mary Holy Mother of God - a Holy Day of Obligation

Mass times are: Monday, December 31 at 5:30pm and Tuesday, January 1 at 9am. Adoration is cancelled both days. Offices are closed Tuesday, January 1.

YOU ARE THE BEST!

Because of the generosity of so many of our parishioners, 100 children in Rochester had a Merry Christmas! The packages were abundant, beautifully wrapped, and returned on time. They were delivered on December 15th and gratefully received. The Ladies' Auxiliary thanks you for your help; we could not have done it without you. You have touched the hearts of many children with the love of Jesus Christ in your charitable giving. May the Lord richly bless you! - Jean Dunne of the Ladies Auxiliary

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

CGS is an approach to the religious formation of children which follows Maria Montessori’s principles of child development and implements a hands-on approach to fostering quiet contemplation rooted deeply in Scripture and the Liturgy. Our Atrium runs weekly for two age groups. On Saturdays from 9:00-11:00am our 3-5 year-olds meets with Colleen Reggio. On Tuesday from 1:00-3:00pm our 5-7 year-olds meet with Jen Brannin. This is a great program to introduce the faith to the youngest of our community! For more information, contact Rebecca Olek at [email protected].

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Come join our Children’s Liturgy of the Word Group every Sunday during the 11:00am Mass. Our team of teachers take the students outside of Mass to read and explain the Readings and Gospel in detail, incorporating song and games to encourage understanding. Our approach is to inspire prayer, reflection, and joy in God’s love for us. The program is offered from September through May for ages 4-7.

Blessings

Blessings come in various ways. One doesn’t always recognize a blessing occurring. Jim asked me to get the book, The Squirrel Manifesto. The moral is: “Care for the world you live in, and act. Save a little. Spend a little. And always give back!” At Christmas, it is our time to begin, and give to those we know and those we don’t. To that end, The Increased Offertory Program is our opportunity to share with those we know. The CMA is an opportunity to share our treasures with those in our community we do not know. Merry Christmas!

MEG’s Gift and NAMI team up with Holy Spirit

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, … naked and you clothed me.” (Mt 25:35a, 36a)

Many thanks to the parishioners of Holy Spirit for your support to the homeless in Rochester’s House of Mercy, a grassroots homeless shelter and advocacy center. Through your generosity, MEG’s Gift has delivered fifteen large bins filled with socks, hats, canned foods, dry goods, spices and condiments, and personal hygiene items to the House of Mercy. When all is said and done, this will multiply into over fifty containers from all locations in the program. May God’s richest blessings be with you all. Thank you!
