(Jesús ha muerto, Jesús ha resucitado y Jesús está vivo) La Navidad es
un momento cada año para respondernos estas preguntas.
Necesitamos aceptar a Dios en Jesús usando el término “Emmanuel”
como él lo ha definido. Jesús es el cumplimiento de las esperanzas y
sueños del pueblo judío. Él es el profeta, sacerdote y rey que se
espera.
Las profecías del Antiguo Testamento por los profetas se cumplieron
en Jesús. "La virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo y lo llamarán
Emmanuel, un nombre que significa 'Dios está con nosotros'". El
nombre nos recuerda el Arca del Pacto que los judíos llevaban y que
representaba el presencia de Dios entre ellos. Dios les recordaba
constantemente a través del Arca que Él sería su Dios y que ellos
siempre serían Su pueblo. Esta presencia de Dios generalmente se
concibió como una brillante y brillante luminosidad que se cernía
sobre Su pueblo. Dios es uno con nosotros. Y levanta su tienda como
si estuviera entre nosotros.
En esta temporada especial de Adviento entrando en Navidad, este
Dios con nosotros viene a invitarnos a una relación con Él donde Él
siempre es una presencia permanente en nuestras vidas. En Él
vivimos, nos movemos y tenemos nuestro ser. El es nuestro todo. Esto
es muy diferente de tratar con pequeños ídolos que llevamos en
nuestras vidas. En lugar de Dios con nosotros, elegimos a los pe-
queños dioses del dinero con nosotros. En dólares estamos en lugar de
Dios. El dinero y la comida se convierten en nuestras preocupaciones
de por vida. Del mismo modo, podemos venerar la fama con nosotros,
la belleza con nosotros, el apartamento con nosotros, el cónyuge con
nosotros o la buena salud con nosotros. Nuestros dioses incluso
pueden ser algo diabólicos como nuestra relación adictiva con el
alcohol con nosotros, las drogas con nosotros, etc.
Este Dios con nosotros nos invita esta temporada a tomar muy en
serio su presencia en nuestras vidas. Él está entre las ollas y
sartenes en el hogar. Él está presente en nuestra toma diaria de
decisiones. Él es nuestra inspiración en el trabajo y nuestro
Consolador en tiempos de prueba y angustia. Es un amigo íntimo en el
que podemos confiar sin miedo. Él es el fundamento en el que nos
encontramos, incluso el fundamento de nuestro ser. Él es el Dios a
quien adoramos en la Iglesia y el Dios que encontramos
constantemente en los supermercados y centros comerciales. Él nos
anima en la risa de los niños pequeños y también muestra su majestad,
poder y fuerza en la grandeza de una montaña y la fuerza de una tor-
menta. Este Dios está a nuestro alrededor, pero dentro de nosotros,
sosteniéndonos, sanándonos, protegiéndonos y guiándonos.
A medida que nos acercamos a la fiesta entre fiestas (Navidad),
podemos estar distraídos por todos los adornos, ropa de moda,
iluminación, música, baile, fiestas y dulces a nuestro alrededor.
Podemos perder el verdadero Dios con nosotros mientras perseguimos
a los pequeños ídolos que estamos tentados a mantener en su lugar.
Emmanuel, el Dios, con nosotros, nos invita a usted y a mí a estar
siempre cerca de Él y a extraer sustento e inspiración de Su presencia

Have we accepted this hard core truth that Jesus is alive?
(Jesus has died, Jesus has risen, and Jesus is alive)
Christmas is a time every year to answer to ourselves these
questions. We need to accept God in Jesus using the term
‘Emmanuel’ as he has defined it. Jesus is the fulfillment of
the hopes and dreams of the Jewish people. He is the
prophet, priest and king who is expected.
The Old Testament prophecies by the prophets were
fulfilled in Jesus. “The virgin will conceive and give birth
to a son and they will call him Emmanuel, a name which
means ‘God-is with-us.” The name recalls to our mind the
Ark of the Covenant which the Jews carried and which
represented the presence of God among them. God con-
stantly reminded them through the Ark that He would be
their God and they would always be His people. This
presence of God was usually conceived of as a shining,
shimmering luminosity hovering over His people. God is
one with us. And He pitches His tent as it were among us.
In this special season of Advent entering Christmas, this
God-with-us comes to invite us to a relationship with Him
where He is always an abiding presence in our lives. In Him
we live and move and have our being. He is our everything.
This is very different from dealing with little idols that we
carry around in our lives. Instead of God-with-us we choose
the little gods of money-with-us. In dollar we stand instead
of God. Money and food becomes our lifelong preoccupa-
tions. Similarly, we may revere fame-with-us, beauty-with-
us, apartment-with-us, spouse-with-us or good-health-with-
us. Our gods may even be somewhat diabolical like our
addictive relationship to alcohol-with-us, drugs-with-us etc.
This God-with-us invites us this season to take His presence
in our lives very seriously. He is among the pots and pans in
the home. He is present in our daily decisions-making. He is
our inspiration at work and our Comforter in times of trial
and distress. He is an intimate friend in whom we can
confide without fear. He is the Ground on which we stand
even the ground of our being. He is the God whom we
adore in Church and the God we constantly find in the
grocery stores and mall. He enlivens us in the laughter of
little children as well as shows His majesty, power and
strength in the grandeur of a mountain and the force of a
storm. This God is all around us yet deep within us sustain-
ing, healing, protecting and leading us on.
As we approach the feast among feasts (Christmas) we may
be distracted by all the tinsels, fashionable clothes,
illumination, music, dancing, parties, and sweets all around
us. We may miss out on the real God-with-us as we chase
after the little idols that we are tempted to keep instead.
Emmanuel, the God –with-us invites you and me to be ever
close to Him and to draw sustenance and inspirations from
His abiding presence in our lives.
