Dear Parents and Carers,
Christmas has fast come upon us and both students and staff are working hard right up to our
last day, Wednesday 20th December. On behalf of the staff and Governors, I would like to wish
you and your families a peaceful and joyous Christmas and New Year. At this time of year it is
too easy to be distracted by a ‘commercial’ Christmas and the huge expectations and pressures
that come with that, so we are working with the students to remember the core values of this
festive time, peace, love, selflessness and joy and to think of others around the world who are
less fortunate than ourselves.
The new year, I’m certain, will be one of a celebration of our successes and I look forward to
sharing them with you over the coming months.
Regards
Rob Rogers, Principal
Community Christmas Concert
It is that time of year again for our Performing Arts department to put on their annual
Christmas Concert. This year saw the event grow immensely in size with over 70
students taking to the stage and it was watched by an audience of over 200 which
included family members and members of the community. We were treated to a wide
variety of performances including a piece by our Drama Club called ‘Tuesday’ which
was specially created for some of the primary schools in our Multi-Academy Trust,
some brilliant instrumental and vocal pieces, a toe-tapping dance extravaganza, all
linked together with some poignant readings. Students also performed the show for
some pupils from Litherland Moss and Netherton Moss who enjoyed a lovely after-
noon with us, they even got to take home some specially prepared ‘Reindeer Food’.
Some of the pieces showcased at the event will also feature in our last day of term
celebrations for the rest of the school. A big well done to all of the students involved
and to the staff who work so hard to make events
like these such a success.

GCSE Celebration Evening
At the beginning of December we welcomed back students from last
year’s Year 11 to collect their GCSE certificates. This year saw a record
breaking turn out with a great number of students coming back to see
us along with members of their families. It is always an enjoyable
evening catching up with students and finding out about what they are
doing since leaving LHS and being in the wider world. I would like to
take this opportunity to wish them all the very best for the future and
we would like it if they would keep us updated about how they are
doing.
Congratulations to them all.
House Christmas Card Competition
This term has seen the launch of our new house system. We have three houses which are
named after Liverpool’s famous Three Graces, House Port, House Cunard and House Liver.
The houses contain students from all year groups and we hope that there will be many events
and competitions in the coming new year for the students to take part in. The first ‘house’
competition was to design this year’s school Christmas card. We had some brilliant entries
which made it a tough task for the Senior Leadership team to choose a winner. But after a lot of
deliberation we decided to award the honour to Naomi Thornton from 7E, House Port.
Naomi was presented with her professionally produced card during the Spanish Spelling Bee
Competition. Her winning design has now been sent out to local schools, businesses and
organisations, it has even been turned into an e-card! Well done Naomi
Year 7 Spanish Spelling Bee
Year 7 took part in the annual Spanish Spelling Bee Competition last week.
Students have to spell as many words in Spanish as they can in one minute.
They are only told the English version of the word so they also have to
translate it into Spanish! It is always a great event with tutor groups making
banners of support and encouragement for their group’s representatives. The
three finalists were Ben Stenson, Charlotte Rawling and Andreea Banu who
will be representing LHS at the North West Regional Finals in Manchester
next year! We will keep you posted about how they get on!

Roller Disco
Last week saw our very first Year 7 & 8 Roller Disco in the Sports Hall.
Over 80 students attended the event and had a great time. Some of the
students helped prepare a Christmas Tuck Shop to keep the skaters
going! A fantastic time was had by all!
