Solarus Contributes to the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library Solarus recently made a contribution of $4,900 to the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. CoBank's Sharing Success matching grant program matched the $4,900 for a total contribution of $9.800.

CoBank's program matches donations to nonprofit organizations in communities that their customers serve. They continue to believe that the best way for CoBank to make

a meaningful impact of corporate citizenship is to partner with their customers. "Sharing Success enables CoBank to leverage the local knowledge and expertise and provide assistance to causes that their customers care deeply about," said Bob Engel, CoBanks' Chief Executive Officer.

"We are delighted and grateful for the generosity of CoBank and Solarus' gift to the Everett Roehl Marshfield Pub-lic Library. These funds will be instrumental in the assistance of updating the library's growing technology needs in the children's area as well as supporting the library's overall cause of strengthening the community," Lori Belon-gia, director of the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library said. She continued, "to address the needs and interest of children from ages 2 through 12, they will purchase AWE (Advanced Workstations in Education) workstations for early literacy and after school learning. AWE stations deliver learning through electronic education games. Learning is always best when it is fun, too. This donation brings learning and fun to more children."

This is the fourth consecutive year Solarus has received the CoBank Sharing Success grant. Last year's recipi-ent was the South Wood County YMCA and the prior year went to the Tribune Building Project in the Wisconsin Rapids area. Thank you, Solarus, for giving back!

Solarus is headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids, and offers local and long distance telephone, internet, and televi-sion service throught North Central Wisconsin.

Can I roll a retirement plan distribution into an IRA?

If you're asking this question, you probably have a 401(k) or other retirement plan through a former employer. The short answer is yes--most retirement plans allow you to roll your plan funds over into an IRA after you've left your employer's service. However, there is more than one way to do a rollover, and how you do it can be critical. In most cases, your best strategy is to do a direct rollover. This is a direct transfer of funds from your employer-sponsored plan to your IRA. The administrator of your employer-sponsored plan may send the check right to the trustee of the IRA you have selected. That way, the money never passes through your hands. Alternatively, the plan administrator may give the check to youto deliver to the IRA trustee. This also qualifies as a direct rollover a long as the check isn't made payable to you. Instead, it should be made payable to the IRA trustee for your benefit. A direct rollover will avoid tax consequences and penalties. You can also do an indirect rollover, but it's rarely a good idea. Here, the check is made payable to you. When you receive the check, you cash it and deposit the funds in the new IRA within 60 days. The big drawback: Before releasing your plan funds to you, the plan administrator is required to withhold 20 percent of the taxable amount for federal income tax. To make sure you deposit the correct amount, you must replace this 20 percent out of your own pocket. However, if you properly follow all the IRS rules for rollovers, you will avoid tax consequences and can get back the amount withheld for taxes when you file your annual income tax return .You can roll your distribution into either a traditional IRA or Roth IRA. If you roll the funds over into a Roth IRA (often called a (“ conversion") you'll include the taxable portion of the distribution in your taxable income in the year you roll the funds over. A distribution from your retirement plan's Roth account can only be rolled over into a Roth IRA.) You may not be allowed to roll over certain types of retirement plan distributions into an IRA. Further, when considering a rollover, to either an IRA or to another employer's retirement plan, you should consider carefully the investment options, fees and expenses, services, ability to make penalty-free withdrawals, degree of creditor protection, and distribution requirements associated with each option. Consult a tax professional for details.

Kevin "Tiny" Michalski, of Burns Insurance, is actively involved in the Marshfield community through various events and organizations throughout the year. Giving back comes easy for him and he is very well known in the community.

Ann Dieringer, of Nutz Deep II, will bring that "youthfulness" to red coats. Her outgoing personality and love-to-get-involved attitude will be a great addition. Ann is involved with the MYPs, on the Main Street Marshfield Board of Directors, and teaches fitness classes.

MARSHFIELD AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

MACCI Continues Cutting Ribbons During the month of November, MACCI helped cut ribbons for two businesses; Staab Construction Corp and GSF Mortgage/Premier Home Lending.

On August 28, 1984, Aaron Staab incorporated Staab Construction Corporation and began building a successful busi-ness with eight employees. Office operations were located along Peach Street in Marshfield. The new company focused primarily on water and wastewater treatment plant construction.

In 1988 Staab Construction Corporation implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan which allows all employees an opportunity to own company stock through contributions to their profit sharing retirement plan. Employees continue to own 100% of the Company today. In return, employees’ ownership attitudes and dedication to growth, improvement and innova-tion continue to find effective solutions to meeting customer needs and shareholder value.

In 1992 Staab Construction moved to its current location in Marshfield’s East Industrial Park with 5,000 sq. ft. office and 8,000 sq. ft. shop & warehouse for 10 office employees and 20 field employees. Revenue was at $7.0M that year. By 2005, they had twice the office employees and triple the field em-ployees completing $30.0M in revenue. That year, they expanded the fabrica-tion shop by 6,400 sq. ft. and added a training room.

Today Staab Construction has almost 100 employees, with approximately 30 at their Marshfield facility and the craftsmen working on jobs throughout the Midwest, with a revenue of $40.0M. Through continued growth, advance-ments in technology and how they perform many of their duties, the decision to expand their current office space was made. Simply put, they had out-grown their office building.

As part of this 2016 upgrade they incorporated many aspects of what they do in the construction industry – poured concrete, sheet piling, flanged pipe and, of course, the use of cranes.

On November 16, GSF Mortgage/Premier Home Lending hosted a ribbon cutting in their new location at 117 West Upham Street, Marshfield.

About 18 years ago, after being in the investment and insurance business for 8 years, Michelle Nikolay became a Mortgage Loan Originator. During the next eight years, she worked for a couple different companies before deciding at the end of 2006 that in order to provide a full array of mortgage products at competi-tive prices, she would need to venture out on her own. That became the beginning of Premier Home Lending. Since then they have grown into a staff of four – with Michelle and another very experienced and well-known Mortgage Loan Origina-tor, Angie Domine, and two processors, Gloria Matticks and BreAnn Shaw.

For a small operation, they generate a large amount of loans – approximately $1.5 million a month. And they do it in a friendly, laid-back, no-pressure atmosphere, always keeping their clients best interests in mind and striving to provide the utmost in customer service. That is why their tag line is “Mortgage Lending. . . the Better Way. . .the Premier Way.”

MACCI wishes both companies all the best!
