DECEMBER 2016 ❖ CAMP SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL 3

CONTENTS

Another year gone by. I feel like I blinked. How about you? It was a busy year here at CAMP. Busy and

terrific! We made a lot of headway this year as we continued to build on existing relationships and forge new ones, develop new features and refresh tired ones, and rise to the demands and challenges of the industry. We have an amazing customer base driving us onward and upward. The counterpart is an extraordinary crew of people whose combined efforts make great things happen here at CAMP. It feels good when you take stock of the year past and can say such things with pride and confidence. Below are some considerations that lend to this sentiment.

This year the Field Service Representative (FSR) team completed 1,650 visits. CAMP at-tended 75 industry events. Customers attended over 370 training webinars hosted by CAMP’s Customer Support Team. Additionally, the Customer Support Team diligently fielded ap-proximately 12,500 customer inquires. And to think, these numbers don’t even include the on-going support provided daily by Analysts, Sales Managers and so many others here at CAMP.

With these metrics in mind, I hope you realize that your success is our primary objective. If you have questions or are looking to learn something new about the application, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. You can contact the Customer Support Team directly by calling 1-877-411-CAMP or by emailing [email protected]. If you’re interested in attending a webinar the schedule can be found on the CAMP website and in In-Sight. If you’d like to schedule a FSR visit, don’t hesitate to call or email your rep. Not sure who your FSR is? Flip to the directory on page 18. You can also find this information on the website under the Support tab.

This year we were pleased to establish partner-ships with Gulfstream Aircraft Corporation and Quest Aircraft Company. As the selected factory maintenance tracking provider for each, we look forward to working closely with both organiza-tions as well as providing Gulfstream and Kodiak operators worldwide with exceptional service.

CAMP also introduced several new enhance-ments to our services. Some highlights include:

• The release of helicopter-centric features to the CAMP application, which includes automatic formula-based penalty and RIN calculations, enhanced flight log tracking, and more. A dedicated team of helicopter analysts, field service personnel, and general opera-tional staff were also established to provide

direct support to our helicopter operators.

• The integration of CAMP with CORRI-DOR, thus providing users with the ability to electronically transfer maintenance records between the two interfaces. Download due lists and work items from CAMP to COR-RIDOR, transfer part information, includ-ing manufacturer, part number and serial number, and assign CAMP tasks directly to CORRIDOR’s Work Order and Work Order Quote modules. Upon completion, transfer your essential data back to CAMP. If you hadn’t heard about this before and want to learn more, please contact the CORRIDOR team at 1-512-918-8900, ext. 2.

• Innovations to the CAMP Inventory Management System (IMS), including a new intuitive interface, easy to use navigation panels, a dashboard offering a list of open req-uisitions, purchases and service orders, and an enhanced stock room and requisition search.

• The launch of Owner Operator service. CAMP reconfigured existing tools to better fit the way Owners operate their aircraft. Using the iCAMP mobile platform, this service offers a simplified monthly status report, monthly reports delivered by email, and regu-lar email notifications to keep owners abreast of their maintenance.

• An upgraded AVTRAK user interface. The new platform incorporates a modern look and feel, implements the most secure web tech-nology available, allows for integration with additional services such as Engine Health Monitoring (EHM) and mobile device sup-port, and improved functionality. AVTRAK users can learn more by calling +1-303-745-5588 or by emailing [email protected]

This list barely scratches the surface, but as you can see there’s a lot going on at CAMP and I assure you that there are more great things to come. In closing, I want to extend our thanks to all of you. It has been a pleasure supporting you this year. Thank you for giving CAMP the opportunity to do so.

Regards,

Dennis FooteDennis FooteSenior Manager, Regional Field ServiceCAMP Systems [email protected]

DID YOU KNOW? The Navigation Panel can be toggled to both the Open/Closed positions using the double caret locat-ed in the upper right corner of the screen.

The Panel will default to the open position whenever the individual accessing the application has access to more than one aircraft.

When access exists for one aircraft only, the system will default the panel to the parked position and only aircraft information will be displayed.

Navigation PanelThe three major components of the Navigation Panel are Fleet Listings, Aircraft Listings and Major Assem-blies. Last month we cover Fleet Listings. This month reviews Aircraft Listings, including a brief description of its underlying functions.

Aircraft Listings: Aircraft – All aircraft specific to a fleet are listed directly under the fleet level functions and may be accessed by clicking on the registration.

a. Documents – Operator access to all general documentation loaded by de-partmental personnel, historic task & work

order file attachments, applicable elog-book records, and all compliance records.

b. Task/Status – Access to all scheduled tasks tracked against the aircraft.

c. Due List – A page within the application that will present all tasks scheduled due within the time projections preset by the operator.

d. Update – Allows operators to update work accomplished information against all tasks within the application.

e. Logbook Entries – Create new and view existing Logbook entries.

f. Work Orders – A workflow module within

the application available to system users.

g. Discrepancies – All unscheduled mainte-nance activity is organized through this feature.

h. Other – The “Other” selection contains access to additional areas within the ap-plication that are less frequently accessed, but which remain important to the user.

• History – This page serves as a storage feature for all historic task update transactions. Users typically access this information directly from the task via the Tasks/Status function.

• Security – Set up and/or identify any internal and external users with access to a group of aircraft.

• Flight Log – A page within the application used to store historic total time data imported via inte-grated dispatch applications or by manual input.

• Task Groups – A utility that provides the operator a means to physically group tasks within the application when such groupings make sense from a tracking perspective.

• Checklist – From here users can create custom checklists for almost any purpose including pre and post flight. The checklists are avail-able in iCAMP for use on the ramp.

Major Assemblies: Major Assemblies – Contain access to all engines, propellers and APU’s that are considered spares within the operator’s domain. Each described unit will list with its own home page and respective func-tions identical to the aircraft listings described above.

Access to Engine Trend Reviews:The user will have the ability to review the EHM status of the aircraft each time the engines are reviewed by the analyst. A new report will be generated and stored for the individual aircraft each time a review is conducted, providing the user with a historical log of the health of the engines.

Documents - The user can download, save, and print any of the EHM Reports stored within the Engine Health Monitoring – Review Log sub folder beneath the Documents link.

Data Comm Now at Chicago O'Hare, MidwayDecember 9 - The FAA is now helping to reduce or eliminate one source of delay at Chicago O’Hare and Midway through the use of Data Communi-cations (Data Comm), part of the FAA’s NextGen air traffic control modernization. Data Comm will help reduce delays by making pilot-control-ler communications shorter and more accurate, which could help keep a plane in the departure line and on schedule. It is now operational at both of Chicago’s major airports.

Today, members of the media toured the O’Hare air traffic control tower and a United Airlines jet to see Data Comm in action. Representatives from the FAA, United Airlines, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, and the Profes-sional Aviation Safety Specialists were on hand.

Inside the tower, controllers enter flight departure clearance instructions into a computer and push a button to electronically send the information to an aircraft’s flight deck. Flight crews view the in-formation, press a button to confirm receipt, and press another button to enter the instructions into the aircraft’s flight management system.

This process saves valuable time. For instance, when pilots read back a series of complicated waypoints in a clearance with even one mistake – called a “readback/hearback” error – they must re-peat the instructions until they are correct. These corrections take time, and even a short departure clearance can take two to three times longer than one communicated via Data Comm.

This benefit becomes even more pronounced during bad weather, when Data Comm enables equipped aircraft to take off before an approach-ing storm closes the departure window, while aircraft relying solely on voice communications remain stuck on the ground waiting for the storm to pass.

Data Comm is expected to save operators more than $10 billion over the 30-year life cycle of the program and save the FAA about $1 billion in fu-ture operating costs.

The first Data Comm-equipped airports – Salt Lake City and Houston’s George Bush Intercon-tinental and William P. Hobby – received tower departure clearance services eight months ahead of schedule in August 2015.

Source: https://www.faa.gov/news/updates

The FAA and its industry partners have delivered Data Comm to more than 50 towers to date, al-most two and a half years ahead of the original plan. The expansion into en route airspace is the next phase of the program and will start in 2019.

Drone Registration Marks First AnniversaryOver the last year, the Federal Aviation Admin-istration (FAA) has made great strides toward integrating unmanned aircraft – popularly called

“drones” – into the nation’s airspace. The first big step took place last December 21, when a new, web-based drone registration system went online.

During the last year, the system has registered more than 616,000 owners and individual drones. As part of the process, applicants receive and must acknowledge some basic safety information. That means more than 600,000 drone operators now have the basic aviation knowledge to keep them-selves and their friends and neighbors safe when they fly.

The FAA developed the automated registration system in response to a rule requiring owners of small unmanned aircraft weighing more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) and less than 55 pounds (approx. 25 kilograms) to register their drones.

The rule and the registration system were primari-ly aimed at the thousands of drone hobbyists who had little or no experience with the U.S. aviation system. The agency saw registration as an excel-lent way to give them a sense of responsibility and accountability for their actions. The agency wanted them to feel they are part of the aviation community, to see themselves as pilots.

The FAA developed the web-based registration system to make the process easier for first-time users compared with the traditional paper-based “N-number” system. Then and now, hobbyists pay a $5.00 fee and receive a single identification number for all the drones they own.

Commercial, public and other non-model aircraft operators had to use the paper-based registration system until March 31, 2016, when the FAA ex-panded the system to non-hobbyists.

The automated system has had one other benefit. Several times, the agency has used the system to send out important safety messages to everyone who registered.

Unmanned aircraft registration has been an un-qualified success. The FAA is confident the system will continue to help drone pilots – experienced or newcomers – recognize that safety is every-body’s business.

the New England Chapter of the “Ninety-Nines” (International Organization of Women Pilots) to participate in a commemorative flight around the Boston Light. Dozens of women pilots wearing purple shirts (Quimby's signature color) took off from Norwood Memorial Airport, MA, [OWD] flew over the bay, and circled the Boston Lighthouse. I was in the first plane (as a passenger) and could clearly see the lighthouse crew waiving to us as we circled. It was during this exciting week that I was fortunate to find Sally Snowman, a life-long resident of the area and an Auxiliary Coast Guard volunteer. At the controls of her Boston Whaler boat, Snowman transported a few of us HQRC participants to Little Brewster Island for a tour.

The Aerial Tradition

Lighthouse Keepers and their families often live on isolated peninsulas or islands. Along the coast of Maine and elsewhere the winter weather can be particularly harsh and travel to civilization impossible. In 1929, Capt. Wm. H. Wincapaw

Her name is Sally Snowman (honest!). She greets a “Flying Santa” during the Christmas holidays when he arrives by

helicopter on Little Brewster Island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Snowman and her gift-bearing pilot are committed to continuing a tradition of holiday generosity which began in 1929. Since 1997, the annual aerial deliveries have been sponsored by the “Friends of Flying Santa,” a non-profit organization which raises funds to purchase gifts for children of Coast Guard families. Their President, Brian Tague, is a professional photographer and has written a history of the Flying Santas. Volunteers spend hours wrapping gifts to be hand-delivered upon landing at a lighthouse. “This December,” says Tague, “with the donation of helicopter services, we will make 32 stops in six states and involve 75 Coast Guard units.”

The Boston Light

In 1716, the Boston Lighthouse was built on Little Brewster Island to illuminate the harbor seas for mariners. Although modernization shut down many lighthouses, a Congressional order was passed in 1989 requiring that the Boston Lighthouse would always be manned. As a result, the lighthouse has remained lit for 300 years and is the last permanently manned Coast Guard lighthouse in the U.S. It is a National Monument and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Boston Lighthouse is now “manned” by Sally Snowman, Coast Guard Civilian Keeper of the Light, and the first woman of that title in its 300-year history. Snowman has been integral to the Coast Guard's restoration of the lighthouse and its buildings which include the Keeper's residence. The tri-centennial celebration of the lighthouse kept Snowman busy with extra public tours while supervising 32 assistant Keepers. “It was a whirlwind of events,” says Snowman, “including participation by the Commandant of the Coast Guard.” A Fresnel lens (made in 1859) shines 27 miles out to sea except once a month when Snowman shuts off the light to wipe it clean. Only the Keeper of the Light may do this job, which requires a steep climb up spiral steps.

When I Met Sally

On July 2, 1912, aviatrix, Harriet Quimby and her passenger, William Willard, took off from the airfield at Squantum, Massachusetts in her open-cockpit, 75hp, Bleriot XI monoplane. The publicity flight was intended to inaugurate the forthcoming Third Boston Aero Meet for which Quimby was a featured flier. Quimby followed a flight path flown previously by England's Claude Graham-White over Dorchester Bay to circle Little Brewster Island's Boston Lighthouse. After circling the lighthouse, Quimby headed back to the field where thousands of spectators awaited her return. En route Quimby lost control of her Bleriot as the tail assembly inexplicably lifted – expelling both occupants who fell to their deaths. The cause of the tragedy prompted emotional debates which ultimately led to the development of “safety-chutes” for aviators and a re-design of Bleriot's future aircraft.

In the year 2000, as Director of the Harriet Quimby Research Conference (HQRC), I invited

was already well known for his frequent life-saving rescues at the controls of his float plane. “On many of these flights,” writes Tague, “his only means of navigation were the lighthouse beacons along the coast.”

Wincapaw first chose to show his appreciation to these families on December 25, 1929. He filled his little plane with packages of coffee, candy, tea, magazines, small toys and other useful items which he dropped down to the surprised and grateful families that resided at the nearby lighthouses. A tradition of the Flying Santa began as Wincapaw, and later his son, continued to deliver gifts by air each Christmas.

By 1933 the Wincapaw family had moved to Massachusetts and expanded to include 91 lighthouses and Coast Guard stations along the Eastern seaboard. In 1936, the Wincapaws welcomed the extra helping hands of a local historian and author. His name was Edward Rowe Snow (honest!). When father and son Wincapaw were transferred out of the US for employment, the flights were taken over by Snow often accompanied by his wife. Tague explains that as Snow was not a pilot, he chartered aircraft, “Hurtling the carefully wrapped bundles to their lonely targets.”

Deliveries were briefly stopped during WWII, but by 1945 Snow resumed the flights and

Capt. Bill Wincapaw, originator of the Flying Santa flights, pilots the Bickfords Fokker Trimotor over the Boston Light in 1937. Photo: Courtesy of the William Wincapaw Family and Friends of Flying Santa. took over coordinating the project after Capt.

Wincapaw died in 1947. Snow was the sole Flying Santa between 1947 and 1980. During these years the program ultimately reached 176 lighthouses from Canada to Florida; the Pacific coast; and foreign countries where the US Coast Guard had stations. Exclusive use of helicopters for deliveries began in 1981. E.R. Snow died in 1982 but volunteer pilots continued to fly their holiday “sleighs.”

Tague and the Friends of Flying Santas donate long hours of their holidays for the same reason which inspired Capt. Wincapaw, Mr. and Mrs. Snow, and generations of volunteers. Writes Tague, “The great deal of fun and satisfaction received from these trips as well as the deep appreciation from the lighthouse families make it

all worthwhile.”

Happy New Year!

Embraer wins Manufacturer of the Year AwardOrlando, Florida, November 22, 2016 – Embraer Executive Jets has been named Aircraft Manufac-turer of the Year by BACA, the Worldwide Asso-ciation of Air Charter Professionals. My company was just given access to an aircraft, but I can’t see that aircraft when I log in - why?

As aircraft are added to a company’s access only the Administrator gets au-tomatic access. The “new” aircraft must be added to the applicable User-level log-on.

How do I know that CAMP is using the latest referenced document(s) to the manufacturers’ requirements?

In several screens, especially when in Detail View of a task, you will see a little blue book icon. When you click on it, the next screen will display a PDF file link to the actual procedural text for sched-uled items, as well as text for Service Bulletins, AD’s, etc. Below that you will see another reference to the manual or bulletin’s current revision cycle issued by the manufacturer and/or Airworthi-ness Authority. If there is no reference, this means it is a customer requirement, or the manufacture has not supplied available data for that task.

Can I have a service center complete the CAMP cards?

Sure you can! However, it is suggested that the completed compliance forms are reviewed by the CAMP subscriber for accuracy prior to sending them for

“To win a prestigious BACA award is a great achievement, and it’s especially satisfying to win the first ever award in the inaugural year of the catego-ry,” said Peter Griffith. “However, what makes this really special is that we won this award based on the popular vote of the BACA membership worldwide; an illustrious group of aviation professionals.”

BACA Chairman, Richard Mumford, said, “I would like to congratulate Embraer on winning the first BACA Aircraft Manufacturer of the Year Award. BACA decided to create this award to rec-ognise the incredible work of aircraft manufactur-ers in producing outstanding, innovative aircraft, backed up by outstanding customer service. The vote of BACA members for Embraer is a shining endorsement of their aircraft."

This latest accolade follows two other major awards in August this year. Embraer Executive Jets secured first position for the second year in row in Pro Pilot Magazine’s Corporate Aircraft Product Support Sur-vey. The 8.58 overall scores - the highest in 26 years of this research – confirms the company on the top of the two most important specialized surveys in the industry. Earlier Embraer had soared to its first-ever solo number one ranking in Aviation International News’ 2016 Product Support Survey; receiving its highest-ever combined overall average (8.4 out of a possible 10) for new and preflown business jets.

Embraer Legacy business jets set new speed recordsMelbourne, Florida, November 9, 2016 – Embraer today announced that its Legacy Family of business jets has set new world speed records, totaling six in 2016. The Legacy 650, Legacy 500, and Legacy 450 have each established new speed records in their classes for continental and transoceanic routes.

“These new speed records demonstrate the superior design characteristics of our Legacy Family of busi-ness jets,” said Marco Tulio Pellegrini, President & CEO, Embraer Executive Jets. “In addition to outstanding performance and premium comfort, each Legacy model delivers true business value, through unparalleled reliability at an unbeatable operational cost.”

The newest records were for “Speed over a Recog-nized Course,” of which four were set on the Legacy 500 by Embraer pilots Casey Davis and Sam Ben-nett. The first flight occurred on June 27, from Houston, Texas to Melbourne, Florida, with six passengers onboard, achieving an average speed of

435.52 mph in 2h02m. The second flight happened on June 30, from Bradley, Connecticut to Scotts-dale, Arizona, reaching an average speed of 460.26 mph in 4h47m. The third flight took place on July 5, from Scottsdale, Arizona to Calgary, Canada, and the aircraft attained an average speed of 475.04 mph in 2h32m. The fourth flight was from Calgary, Canada to Reno, Nevada on July 8, registering an average speed of 435.51 mph in 1h57m.

Embraer pilots Casey Davis and Sam Bennett also set a transoceanic record with the Legacy 650 on Jan-uary 3, recording an average speed of 436.12 mph in 7h44m, from London, UK to Bradley, Connecticut. On May 22, pilots Jeremy Schneider and Michael Voechting flew the Legacy 450 from London, UK to Geneva, Switzerland and achieved an average speed of 360.71 mph.

The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and the Federation Aeronautique Internationale have confirmed each of these flights as a U.S. record and a world record, respectively. In all six speed record flights, the aircraft completed the missions with NBAA IFR fuel reserves.

Embraer introduces the Legacy 650E, offering industry's longest warrantyOrlando, Florida, October 31st, 2016 - Embraer Executive Jets today unveiled a new version of its Legacy 650 large business jet, the Legacy 650E. Fea-turing automation and technology updates, the air-craft, which already has exceptional operational costs and the largest cabin in its class, now carries an un-precedented 10-year or 10,000-flight hour warranty, which is the longest in the business jet industry. The entry into service is scheduled for 2017 at the list price of US$ 25.9 million.

“As a testament to our confidence in the Legacy 650’s heritage of robustness and near-perfect dis-patch reliability, this new aircraft carries the longest warranty available in the business jet industry,” said Marco Tulio Pellegrini, President & CEO, Embraer Executive Jets. “Whether for commercial or private operations, there is no large-cabin aircraft that is more economical, durable and comfortable. This is truly a well-rounded value proposition.”

With a restyled seat upholstery, the Legacy 650E’s spacious cabin features three distinct cabin zones with ample privacy, plus the exclusive option for a separate crew lavatory in the forward cabin.

Refinements to the aircraft fight deck include the Synthetic Vision System (SVS), as part of the lat-est Primus Elite Advanced Features (PEAF) from Honeywell, which also includes traffic collision avoidance system symbology and XM ground-based weather information to the moving map,

providing pilots with enhanced situational aware-ness. In addition to the PEAF, the Legacy 650E also comes with autothrottle as standard equip-ment, improving the level of automation and re-ducing the cockpit workload. These technologies complement the proven Legacy 650E avionics sys-tem, which is compliant with all next-generation airspace mandates and requirements.

Besides that, two iPads with mounting systems are available in the cockpit, enabling pilots to enjoy a friendlier interface, easier updates and a full range of other tools to support their operation. These features reduce cockpit workload and create a more intuitive environment with the technological conveniences that pilots desire.

About the Legacy 650EThe large Legacy 650E comfortably carries up to 14 passengers with privacy in three distinct cabin zones with premium acoustic comfort. In addition to the best-in-class galley and a fully accessible in-flight baggage compartment that is larger than most ultra-long-range business jets, the aircraft may be configured with up to two lavatories. The Legacy 650E features internet connectivity and the lat-est generation in full HD in-flight entertainment, with Honeywell’s Ovation Select entertainment and cabin management system. The aircraft has a range of 3,900 nautical miles (7,223 kilometers) with four passengers, with NBAA IFR fuel reserves.

The Legacy 650E is the first aircraft to offer a 10-year or 10,000-flight hour warranty for systems and components (OEM and supplier), matching the warranty period to that of the airframe. This is now the longest warranty in the industry. The interior warranty remains the same at 2 years, as does exterior paint at 2 years or 1,000 hours, engines at 5 years or 2,500 hours, APU at 5 years, 3,000 hours or 6,000 cycles, and avionics at 5 years or 5,000 hours.

About Embraer Executive JetsEmbraer is one of the world’s leading executive jet manufacturers, having entered the business aviation market in 2000 with the Legacy jet, which led to the launch of Embraer Executive Jets in 2005. Its portfolio, the broadest in the market, consists of the entry-level Phenom 100E and the light Phenom 300 jet, the midsize Legacy 500 midsize and mid-light Legacy 450, the large Legacy 650E, and the ultra-large Lineage 1000E. Embraer Executive Jets’ global fleet exceeds 1,000 aircraft, which are in operation in more than 60 countries and are supported by the Company’s global Customer Support and Services network of over 70 owned and authorized service centers, complemented by a 24/7 Contact Center, at its headquarters, in Brazil.
