It’s more than a summit. Run annually in the first week of December, The Global African Investment Summit is a 365-day-a-year investment programme giving investors access to the most bankable public and private sector projects from Cairo to Cape Town, whilst also attracting the international business elite looking to transact and deploy funds in Africa.

The event has connected over 1,500 investors to the African public and private sector and continues to deliver tangible results in the form of deployed investment, letters of intent and MoUs from investors to Governments.

The Global African Investment Summit is a business platform run with the patronage and support of multiple African Heads of State as well as the business elite of Africa. In three days the summit will deliver more access to finance than any other platform for Africa.

TestimonialsDay 1

Rob HersovChairman and CEO Invest Africa

“It’s fundamental, relationships are everything, so meeting other people who are doing business in Africa, you share ideas and find ways to work together. It’s a great two days.”

His Excellency Lionel ZinsouPrime Minister of Benin

“Our main economic potential is to serve the region starting with Nigeria. Africa is growing faster than any other region in terms of reforms. What we are doing has yet to be achieved by anybody.”

Lord Anthony St JohnChairman, Strand Hanson

“I think this African summit is ideally positioned just after CHOGM, so we have a mix of politicians, leaders and businessmen and it’s come at a very appropriate time.”

Joel SegalPartner and Chair of Africa Business Group, PwC

“There are very few opportunities to have a number of key ministers, who really represent the government side and set the tone for the opportunities as well as the challenges in Africa. Then to also have a whole range of corporate’s who are looking to invest, to support and be aligned with those agendas. I think TGAIS allows you to put those two together in a pretty unique way.”

Diane NobleCEO, CDC Group

“Africa is a very important market for CDC, so having a voice at a forum where there is a cross section of entrepreneurs, government officials, regulators and other financiers as well, is a way of sharing our messages and also hearing what is important to them.”

Chris AntonopoulosCEO, Lekela Power

“Everybody who is important in the African sphere, is altogether in one venue and that of course brings a lot of efficiency.”

Eytan StibbeFounding Partner, Vital Capital Fund

“We invest in other developing countries with the intention to bring their knowledge and operations into Africa, such as renewable energy, sewage and waste water treatment.”

Bob CollymoreCEO, Safaricom

“This event brings the real decision makers into contact with each other: the policy makers, a whole range of Ministers and Heads of State, CEO’s, people running capital markets, and of course investors.”

Srivathsan VenkataramaniManaging Director of Africa and Middle East, Olam International

“The key thing about this summit is Africa has a lot of potential and a lot of opportunities. But the missing link is the financing, how do you find the right people, who have ideas? This is the one forum that links entrepreneurs, various business ideas and Africa with the financial community, and that is something unique.”

Dr. Carlos LopesExecutive Secretary, United Nations “Africa is going through a very interesting period of growth, but everybody knows that this growth is still not enough to dispel misperceptions about the continent and each time there is headwind immediately the narrative changes back to the negative. So we need conferences like this to put out the real story about Africa’s transformation.”

Geoffrey WhiteCEO, Agility Africa “This has become, over time, the go to conference globally, looking at Africa and its challenges. This conference has got the right balance: what are the challenges, but also highlighting the opportunities and the good news as well.”

His Excellency Olusegun ObasanjoFormer President, Republic of Nigeria

“I see TGAIS as an opportunity to mobilise investment and correct the misperception and the misrepresentation about Africa.”

Baroness Lynda Chalker Chairman, Africa Matters Limited

“This year the summit is bringing in new potential investors, who are very active in London to get to know a lot more about the countries of Africa, what they can offer and where they can really have good returns for their investments.”

Arnold EkpeVice Chairman at ADC African Development Corp

“In order to create an environment where a large number of Africans can commune to the employment market and have employment, then Africa can begin to catch up with the rest of the world. You need infrastructure and power, those are the real areas of focus.”

Scott MackinManaging Partner and Co-President, Denham Capital

“It is amazing how this summit has come out of nowhere and been able to attract a good combination of business, government, social and strong personnel. It’s unparalleled in being able to do that.”

Paul SinclairEvent Director, The Global African Investment Summit

“We understood that we could look to achieve, to make a social and economic difference, although we’re not economists, by simply bringing the money to the continent. Being in a diaspora myself, you always have a natural draw to home. I’ve got a passion for Ghana, a passion for the continent, a passion to see my people succeed.”

Mark SimmondsNon-Executive DirectorAfrican Potash

“There is a real appetite in the investor community to look at investing in a whole range of economic sectors in the African continent. But it is a vast and complex geographical area and there is not necessarily a detailed enough understanding of the challenges as well as the opportunities that exist in Africa.”

“I hope for tertiary processing eventually, Africa can no longer be the exporter of primary commodities. We need to increase the level of manufacturing to sustain our economic growth. We need to integrate, together as 15 West African countries we have a market of 350Million people. It is important for Africa to open trade and investment across the sub region.”

The Global African Investment Summit is committed to change across the continent. We are very aware that the dialogue and commentary on Africa is a trodden path. That is why we focus the event on tangible outcomes and take away. The event delivers access to and transaction on projects that investors would not otherwise have had.The core sectors that investors look to deploy are agriculture, banking, consumer goods, infrastructure and power, mining, oil and gas, and ICT.

It is forecast that 200 million Africans will have entered the consumer markets by the end of 2015. The opportunity to harness regional trade and a growing middle income population only strengthens the ambition of governments to partner and source investment in the power sector for industrialisation, logistics and transport to nurture regional trade and value addition to create local brands, stimulate employment and drive middle income economies.

The African agribusiness sector requires investment to drive commercial farming, mechanisation and processed product through value addition. Governments are increasingly looking for FDI to support the agribusiness sector with high-quality seeds, international standard fertiliser, and robust and reliable irrigation systems. The Global African Investment Summit continues to drive investment into the Blue Economy and the agribusiness as a whole.

Although it is forecast that the banking sector will experience lower growth across the continent the summit continues to present some of the most attractive opportunities in the Africa finance sector. Fintech technology and banking reforms from Cairo to Cape Town have given way to a huge investment opportunity in banking being presented at the summit in both commercial and retail banking.

Powering Africa and regionally connecting its markets remains the continents greatest challenge. Investment into Africa s infrastructure sector remains in deficit yet the increase in investment continues to grow. Whilst we have seen FDI being allocated in infrastructure and power it remains imperative that the deficit must be closed. Starting with power and moving onto transport and logistics, The Global African Investment Summit presents the most compelling projects on the continent to investors.

Mining afRiCa s hugE MinERal potEntial

Africa is home to the world’s most sought after resources including platinum, uranium, gold, silver, bauxite and of course diamonds. The challenge the continent faces is the perception of political instability and of course the 60-70% drop in commodity prices that hit the industry in late 2008 and early 2009. With huge demand on capex to successfully develop and export minerals the mining sector remains a beacon of hope for national revenue generation as well as sector riddled with challenges for the investment community. The Global African Investment Summit successfully presents the most compelling public and private sector mining projects seeking international operators and project finance.

The African oil and gas boom has seen production play a far more significant role in global hydrocarbon supply and demand. Mammoth Gas finds offshore in the Rovuma Basin has seen a scramble for producers in Mozambique and Tanzania whilst Chad, Kenya and Sudan offer huge opportunities in the near future.

As international oil companies continue to develop new concessions and acreage across the continent through new licensing rounds, farm outs and mergers and acquisitions, so The Global African Investment Summit highlights the most prestigious upstream and downstream projects.
