Principal’s Note

Dear Students and Parents,

Seasons greeting!

As we come to the end of another calendar year, let’s reflect on our growth

and continue to take strides to grow stronger.

I am pleased to share with you that our school has been doing well in the

various sport games that we have been participating. I thank the coaches,

the students, and all the parents who have been supporting our teams. I can

tell you, that your support means a lot to the players who train really hard in

order to do their best.

On the academic side, I encourage you to continue to play an active part in

your child’s learning. It is very important for you to keep in touch with us.

You can also keep up to date with your child’s daily/weekly progress simply

by logging on to https://nssconnect.newspringsschools.org/. From this link,

you can also utilize our many online resources. These resources can be very

helpful especially during the holiday break.

For 2016, we hope to work even harder here at NSS. Our goal is to make our

school a beacon to reckon with in across the Tampa Bay area and by

extension, the state of Florida! Parents, students, teachers, and well-

wishers, with your continued help and support, we can do this!

From our school family to yours, happy holidays!

Ms. Lee’s Kindergarten Report

As we prepare for the

(not so) cold weather

and upcoming winter

holiday, Kindergarten

has been buckling down

to diving into sight

words, sounds, and

writing. Though the

demands are increasing and the curriculum is getting more intense, the kids have

strapped on tight to really work on their skills. Even throughout the holidays, it’s

important to keep their minds learning and grow their curiosity as learners.

Therefore, I encourage you to keep doing the fabulous work you are doing as

parents!

Mrs. B’s Kindergarten Report

Mrs. B's kindergarten class has been adding more

learning to our brains! We have had fun learning

about the beginning, middle and end of stories.

We have been finding great pleasure reading

Skippyjon Jones books! In Math, we have been

practicing addition so that we can sharpen our

arithmetic skills. We especially had fun making

homemade stethoscopes during the Great

American Teach In with USF Nursing students. I

am humbled by the efforts and interest they put into this ativity; they really worked

hard!

Ms. Maysonet’s 1st Grade Report

December has been very exciting in first

grade! Along with our wonderful winter

program where we got to learn about all the

different holiday traditions around the world,

our students got to perform for an audience!

In Math we have been working on related facts

and missing numbers. So far, the students have

been doing great! In Reading, we have been

talking about and practicing to identify verbs. I

look forward to seeing how far we will go when we come back from the winter

break. Happy holidays!

2nd Grade Report

This year has been incredible and it’s hard to believe

2015 is wrapping up! This month we

have learned to subtract with

regrouping and we are in the

process of using a dictionaries to

better our writing. In science, we

are learning to be inventors and

reinventing items to better our

lives. We love using our imagination

to think outside the norms. These

pictures show the students working hard together!

Mrs. Jackson’s 3rd Grade Report

Our “Holiday celebration” was held on Friday, December 11th. I just want to give a

“Big Thank You” to those students that participated in the program. They did a

marvelous job.

Academics

Reading: We are working on our Academic Language, Context Clues and Author Point of View

Writing: Writing an opinion paper using our heart plan and using facts to support your opinion.

Math: We are wrapping up our chapter on ‘Represent and Interpret Data’ Unit Test on 12/17/15

Science: We are wrapping up our unit on matter.

Ms. McGuigan’s 3rd Grade Report

Robots! Third graders created robots based on area and perimeter measurements.

They had to match these measurements on the grid paper. They have also been

looking at shapes and comparing the attributes of them.

In Science, they have been focusing on solids, liquids, and gases. These

students have been quite the scientists lately. First, they made a hypothesis and

then timed how long it would take ice to melt when different substances were

added to it. They concluded salt made the ice melt quickly. Then, they mixed baking

soda with vinegar in a bottle and topped it off with a balloon. They found that it

created a gas in the balloon! Finally, they mixed a solid and liquid: ice cream and

soda, to create a gas! They made notes about their experiments and shared their

results with each other.

These students have been working extra hard and are ready for a well deserved

break! Warm wishes and Happy Holidays from third grade!

4th Grade Report

This month fourth grade did Winter Celebration Project presentations. Here are

the posters that since of our great kids created!

5th Grade Report

This month 5th grade had the opportunity

to go to JA- Biztown. Each student applied

for a job in a business and got to work for

the day! Before our trip each

student learned how to fill out an

application, manage a checking account, and

learned how to write checks. All 5th grade

students did an awesome job of acting

professionally in their jobs.

Ms. Alexander’s Report

Eighth and seventh grade students

enjoyed a field trip on December 1st to

The Straz Center to see The Mayhem

Poets; an awesome performance troupe

who blends the genres of comedy, poetry

and hip-hop. It was fun and educational,

as the artists taught the students about

polite audience participation and social

justice issues. They returned to school

with their interest in performance poetry peaked.

Mr. Ates’s Turkish Class Report

In 7th grade, we built a town with recycled boxes. The students learned the names of the

buildings in a town. They were also able to tell the locations of the buildings after this

project. In 8th grade Turkish class, our chapter was about communication tools such as

telephone, tv and radio. We created telephones with 5 lines using foam cups and a pieces

of string. It's hard to believe but they really worked. It was an unforgettable experience!
