with God, with each other and with our community. These connections
can meet you wherever you are — emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.
It’s our desire to provide everyone who worships here with easy access
to information. This publication does just that by highlighting activities,
events and serving opportunities in our church. There are opportunities
for everyone, whether you are a young person, a married couple, a
student or enjoying your retirement years.
We encourage you to pursue God’s purposes for all people, which
includes living and learning as a community that loves one another. We
hope you catch a glimpse of God’s kingdom purposes here and that
you experience a welcoming community. We invite you to take a

CELEBRATING STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry is celebrating 40 years of carrying
out its mission to “equip God’s people for the work
of ministry” (Ephesians 4:12). More than 600,000 lay
people in over 12,000 congregations – including ours
at Grant – have been trained to bring life change and
support to individuals going through trouble. Over
65,000 Stephen Leaders have been equipped at
Leader Training Courses over the years.
Stephen Ministers provide more than four million
hours of one-to-one, Christ-centered care each year.
Our church provides more than 1000 hours of care
to people in our congregation and community each
year. These are big numbers, but the best part is
that lives are being changed through this ministry
and perhaps yours could change too? Contact us
if you are in need of some support in your life.
Stephen Ministry Leaders:

SUPPORT GROUPS
Support Groups are established around specific
needs or concerns in life. Our groups are led by
people who have experienced the same struggles
that you may be facing. We meet together in the
context of a confidential group, supported by a
study guide centered on biblical principles. Pre-
registration is required.
To learn more or to register, contact the church office
(204.989.6740; [email protected].)
PRAYER
To pray with someone...
On Sundays mornings a team of men and women
wearing red lanyards are available for prayer and
encouragement. We call this Touch Point. They are
safe individuals you can share concerns with, and
they will pray for your needs. To speak with one of
them, make your way to the front of the auditorium
at the end of the service or visit the Prayer Chapel.
To receive prayer support for your needs…
Submit your request through our online prayer
community. Follow the link on the home page of
the website: www.grantmemorial.ca.
Email your request to [email protected].
Telephone the church office (204.989.6740) and
provide your request(s).
Submit a request on the Welcome Card that is
made available on Sunday morning in the bulletin.
Group Prayer also takes place Sunday mornings at
8:30 a.m. in the Prayer Chapel. This is an opportunity
to pray for Grant Memorial and its mission, the
leadership, and church ministries.

DONATIONS OF PUBLICLY LISTED SECURITIES
(SHARES)
Did you know that you can receive a special tax
benefit when you make a gift of publicly listed
securities such as shares, bonds, mutual funds,
etc?
“The increase in the value (profit) of shares
realized upon the sale of those shares is called a
capital gain. Typically 50 percent of that capital
gain is taxable. However, a special tax benefit is
available to individuals who do not cash out their
shares but who donate the shares directly as a
gift-in-kind to a registered charitable
organization.” ~ Canadian Council of Christian
Charities CCCC Bulletin August 2006
When transferring shares to a registered charity,
such as Grant Memorial Baptist Church or Linden
Christian School, the capital gains do not need to
be reported as income and are therefore not
taxable.
To donate shares, you can follow the process
outlined below:
•Share owner contacts his/her own broker and
advises of transfer
•Broker will complete Authorization to Transfer
and Request for Charity Beneficiary forms
available at GMBC, or go to https://
www.cccc.org/ctf. Upon receipt of shares,
Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC),
will redeem the shares and provide a charitable
receipt to the donor. The receiving charity (GMBC
or LCS) will receive a cheque for the donation
and contact information for the donor
•Charitable receipts are issued by CCCC for the
value at the time of transfer
If you have any questions, or would like to make a
gift of listed securities (shares), please contact:

NAVIGATORS | SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
There are some great places to help in the city of
Winnipeg with university students and with children
who find themselves in challenging economic or
social situations through an afterschool program.
Roger Berrington, Regional Director with the
Navigators, has opportunities to support his work
with university students by providing dinners for 25
hockey players and guests in a biweekly chapel
dinner and discussion or by helping with an annual
Christmas brunch for almost 100 university athletes
in early December.
Roger is also the founder of an afterschool program
and you can support this through providing dinners
for 40 under-resourced children and 20 instructors
or by driving kids to their university experiences in a
school bus.

YOUTH (GRADES 6-12) | SUNDAY MORNINGS
Sunday mornings has undergone a structural adjustment in JR and SR
High ministries. We’ve created a Sunday morning schedule that we
believe best serves the needs of our community. We are taking
advantage of the teaching in the main service, and allowing for youth
worship and discussion. This new schedule provides youth with
dedicated youth time, and integration into the greater church
congregation. Since both youth and parents will learn the same thing at
the same time, it’s our hope that this will lead to helpful family
discussions.
Youth Worship & Connection… 9:00 a.m. / Room 144
Message in the main service… 9:30 a.m. / Auditorium
Breakfast Club - games snacks, etc… 10:00 a.m. / Room 144
Worship in the main service… 11:00 a.m. / Auditorium
Youth Discussion & Prayer… 11:30 a.m. / Room 144

Topic: Wrestling with Doubt
So much of my struggle has
been with struggle itself,
feeling like faith should be

should be a walk in the
garden, not ten rounds in the
ring…”
(Carolyn Arends, Wrestling
With Angels).
Women’s Ministry at Grant Memorial offers something for women in all stages and
seasons of life. Daybreak is a Tuesday morning women’s learning community that is an
opportunity to “get into Scripture and to get Scripture into you”. The morning includes
refreshments and time with friends. Sessions run fall and winter. Evening learning
communities occur throughout the year; we offer everything from Bible book studies to
groups that focus on a study from a bestselling author. Each year our Community Bible
Study provides an opportunity to “dig deep” in a featured Beth Moore study.
The Connect Cafe is an evening with friends – a time of worship, fellowship and fun that
occurs at various times throughout the year. It’s an opportunity to nurture your
relationships with other women, all in a comfortable atmosphere. Each Spring, we take
time out in an annual retreat. Maybe you enjoy reading! If so, the Pageturners Book
Club offers daytime and evening editions.

SEVEN QUESTIONS THAT RATTLE
IN THE MINDS OF MOST MEN
Fridays, 7:00 – 8:00 A.M. ***
Facilitator: Geoff Dresser
Being a MALE is easy. Being a
MAN is daunting. The pressures
of manhood can be enormous.
Does being a real man mean
having a perfect family, a corner office, a luxury car and
a massive home? Or, is there something more to life - a
source of deeper satisfaction? Join us for a small group
experience in which we learn the surprising and
counterintuitive things the Bible has to say about being a
man. Breakfast is on us!

With Thanksgiving & Love On Thanksgiving Sunday, October 12, 55+ acknowledged the contributions of Ray and Elvy Remple, Wally
and Vivian Remple and Gersh and Della Southall for their 11 years of leadership at the 55+ class. They have
served faithfully and with enthusiasm.
They are now retired from their roles and Julianna Enns with a team of volunteers continue to lead “The
Gathering” every Sunday morning at 10:30 in the Fellowship Hall. You are welcome to come as this group
learns how to Find and Follow Jesus. The class spends time learning how to Know God, Make Friends,
Reach Out to Others and Live Generously. You are invited to come and check it out. Food and beverages
are a part of the Sunday morning experience.
