Friday’s advent service and lunch was celebrated by over 33 students, faculty, and staff. Thank you to Dan Fullerton and all of the volunteers that helped to make this a special event!

The parade was very cold and windy but that didn’t stop approximately 20 students (and a few possible future students) from representing PC in the local GLOWS parade.

Share Your Knowledge Starting with the January newsletter Dawn would like to begin a standing segment of featuring a student article. Some types of examples of what she is looking for would be:

Medical procedures/topics that you have found particularly interesting in your classes.

Environmental concerns such as chemicals found in normal every day products that may be harmful and what could be used as alternatives.

Money saving tips and tricks.

The articles do not need to be long - 1/2 to 1 page would be perfect.

Please email any questions and articles to Dawn Hartwig at

Flu Shots Flu shots were administered to students and staff in November. Due to the increased exposure for nursing students during Clinicals and their employment, all nursing students were obligated to receive a flu shot. The Junior and S e n i o r n u r s i n g s t u d e n t s administered the immunizations to approximately 20 students and staff.

What was the best Christmas present

you ever received and why?

One of the best gifts I received as a child was a Mrs. Beasley doll. I used to love to watch Family Affair and was thrilled to get her as a present.

Who

remembers

her???

~ Traci Lardy

The best Christmas present I ever received was being able to Skype with my dad on Christmas morning while he was overseas in Afghanistan. My dad was overseas for the second time and was scheduled to stay there for six months. Christmas to me is about being with family and with my dad being gone, things were hard for the family. Come to find out, we were going to Skype with my dad on Christmas morning and open presents with him. It was so much fun and it was like he had never left! ~ Robyrta Peterson

The best Christmas present I ever received was a sewing machine. When I was a little girl my grandmother would teach me how to sew on her ancient Singer. I cannot count the amount of quilts we made together. Sewing with my grandmother was one thing that I really missed once I moved away from home, and having a sewing machine around takes me back to those days. Anytime my clothing rips, tears, or is falling apart at the seams, I can now repair it myself. The final perk? I can sew my nursing patches onto my scrubs free of charge. ~ Naomi Posivio

The best Christmas present I have ever gotten was when I was 5 years old. The Ghostbusters were a big deal back then. We didn’t have much money so I thought I was just getting clothes again. To my surprise I got a Ghostbusters bedding set and a neutrino wand connected to a particle accelerator pack. For those of you that are not nerds those are the gun and backpack that the

Ghostbusters used to capture the ghosts. I am now 31 years old and will never forget that Christmas. ~ Josh Lowe

What was the best Christmas present

you ever received and why?

A Barbie camper with a fishing boat and fishing pole is the Christmas present that always makes me smile. I received it when I was about 7. My brother, 9 years my senior, who would take me fishing if I begged, received a new fishing pole that year

too. I hoped Barbie, my really cool older brother, and I would go fishing together a lot more. ~ Amy Anderton

I think the best Christmas present I received was a large horse clock given to me by my mother and step-dad. It was their first Christmas together and the first present they bought me together. I still have it, and it still works after 35 years! ~ Linda Gruber

My favorite Christmas present was receiving a trip to Disney World from my grandpa and grandma. Being told they were taking the whole family to Disney World in March. I was 14 years old. ~ Chelsey Rettmann

My favorite Christmas present ever received was my son. Although he was born at the end of October last year, he was a blessing and having him was a great way to spend the holidays. Took us away from the intense feeling that we needed gifts because we had the perfect gift already. ~ Amanda Heig

My brother-in-law was full-time military so their family lived in many locations, both in the country and out, and for 10 years in a row, they were unable to be with the rest of us on Christmas. The first year all of us (total of 17-18 of us at that time; we now are 24 ☺) able to be together and able stay and celebrate for 4 days. Each family took a day of planning and preparing the meals and each family took a day of planning the activities. We did everything from playing cards and games to making homemade ice cream to sledding in the dark on Interlaken hill. If you ask the members of my family, I think many will say that this Christmas was the most memorable of all. The best Christmas present ever was the wonderful and blessed memories that were made that year. ~ Dawn Hartwig

National Radiologic Technology Week®

National Radiologic Technology Week® is celebrated annually to recognize the vital work of Radiologic Technologists (Rad Techs) across the nation. The celebration takes place each November to commemorate the anniversary of the x-ray’s discovery by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895. The week-long celebration calls attention to the important role medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals play in patient care and health care safety. This year’s theme was “R.T.s: Positioning Ourselves for Excellence.”

Here on the Fairmont Campus we have formed a Rad Tech Club to unite students that are already in the program and those that are planning on applying for our program. The club gives the students a chance to not only socialize, but to help form bonds that can help them with their studies and in the long run job placement opportunities. The Fairmont Rad Tech Club plans on doing fundraisers to help build the program on the Fairmont Campus and to also help provide students with options to attend National Conferences in order to help as a review tool for their board examination.

This year they held a meeting and a social for the Rad Tech students to celebrate Rad Tech Week.

New Carrels in Learning Lab

The Learning Lab has new study carrels! What are study carrels? They are simply a great place to concentrate. They remove visual and even some auditory distractions. Students who use them comment that they seem to disappear and enter a different world when they study in a carrel. Please come and try them out!

Surgical Procedures Every fall semester the Surgical Technology program practices different surgical procedures. For example, appendectomy, hernia repair, C-section, breast biopsy, D & C, tracheostomy, myringotomy and tubes, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Practicing these basic surgeries in the lab prepares the students for clinical practicum in the spring semester.

The PC Volleyball team is having a great time and they won their first game on Thursday, November 21. They enjoy playing and have a lot of fun together. They play Thursday nights at the Fairmont Elementary School.

Crockpot Lasagna Traci Lardy

Ingredients 2 lbs hamburger 1-2 jars Prego Spaghetti Sauce (Traditional) 1-2 pkgs of Barilla NO BOIL noodles 1 - 15 oz tub of Ricotta Cheese 1 - 24 oz tub of Cottage Cheese 3-4 cups of Mozzarella Cheese Directions Brown the hamburger (add onion if you

want) Add spaghetti sauce (I like mine saucy so

I use 2 jars) In large bowl, mix all of the cheeses

together and add spices (I use pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder)

Start layering in the crock pot starting with the meat mixture, then noodles, then cheese. Keep layering until you get to the top of the crock pot and end with the cheese mixture.

I usually break up noodles to fit the shape of the crock pot so I have a nice layer of noodles.

When I make it I usually make it the night before and plug it in around noon and it’s done by 5:30 or so.
