EAST BAY BANTER By: Ken Rogers

Hi From East Bay,

October 27th was the Livermore Chapter’s Pumpkin Run. There was a good turnout, and

it was a fun day. The food was great, and the kids costume contest, the raffle, and the

awards went over really well. Good run Livermore members! We really enjoyed the day.

The Vets Run was on November 3rd

. I missed this year, but I hear the turnout of clubs for

the vets was great. Over 150 goody-bags were put together and a raffle for the vets was

good. Lunch was served, and everyone had a great day.

East Bay Chapter held nominations for officers at our last meeting. Members elected

serve in office for two years. The election will be held at the first meeting in December.

Our chapter is planning our Christmas dinner for January 11th, as this is the weekend we can all get together and

celebrate the past year and the holidays.

We wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. Remember, let’s keep trucking in

2014.

See ya’

Kenny Rogers East Bay Chapter

COSMIC LAWS They are called laws....because Truer words were never spoken

1. Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you’ll have to pee. 2. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe. 3. Law of Probability - The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act. 4. Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal - and someone always answers. 6. Variation Law - If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now. 7. Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings. 8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know INCREASES dramatically when you are with someone you don’t want to be seen with. 9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won’t work, IT WILL!!! 10. Law of Bio-Mechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach. 11. Law of the Theater & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrives last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the

Page 3: December 2013

toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk. 12. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold. 13. Murphy’s Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers. 14. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug.

15. Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible IF you don’t know what you are talking about. 16. Brown’s Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they’re ugly. 17. Oliver’s Law of Public Speaking - A CLOSED MOUTH GATHERS NO FEET!!! 18. Wilson’s Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy - As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it. 19. Doctors’ Law - If you don’t feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there, you’ll feel better...but don’t make an appointment, and you’ll stay sick.

TRIVIA

Last month’s question: What American luxury automaker began by making cages for birds and squirrels?

Answer: The American Luxury automaker was the "George N. Pierce Co. of Buffalo who made the Pierce Arrow and

began making cages for birds and squirrels. He also made iceboxes too! (Susan Davis, Modesto)

This month’s question: (It’s the Christmas season, so this month’s question has a holiday flavor to it.) What was the

name of Scrooge's deceased business partner in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol?

Modesto Happenings

By:Bob Hansen

November is the month that the Modesto Chapter holds its annual election of officers. Elected to positions this year

were John Walsh as President, Vice President Mike Wika, Secretary Debbie Johnson, Treasurer Linda Walsh,

Photographer Bob Hansen, Activities Director Dusty Johnson, and Truck Inspectors Ralph Haverson and Ken Stone.

Noticeably absent from the voting were John Walsh, Bob Hansen, Dusty Johnson, and Ralph Haverson, who were

playing hooky in Colorado on their annual hunting trip. Unlike last year where no animals were harmed on the trip, this

year 5 of the 6 tags were filled in 5 days of hunting -- A successful election and a successful hunting trip. Freezers will

be full this winter.

Page 4: December 2013

On Saturday, November 16th, John Walsh and Dusty Johnson attended a Celebration of Life for Leo Blevins, a well-

admired and long-time friend of the Modesto Chapter and attendee of many of our shows. He had a ’39 Ford that he

loved to show. In his honor, the parking lot was filled with many old cars.

Seven of our members attended a benefit charity car show at the Velvet Creamery on McHenry in Modesto on

November 23rd

. It was cool and foggy in the morning, but when the fog lifted, it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon.

Over 60 cars showed up to this free event – It was a good end-of-season show and a good chance to pass out our

“Save the Date” flyers for the 3 events Modesto will put on next year. Attending were John and Linda Walsh, Tom

Tomberlin, Wayne King, Jeff Davis and Susie, and Carl Piercefield.

Our club is gearing up for its annual trip to the Soroptomist Christmas Tree at Vintage Faire Mall on December 8th

where we will pick 40 or more names of children and make their Christmas a little merrier with the money we raise

throughout the year. We will report on this next newsletter.

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world.

Watch while I prove it to you.” The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy

over and asks, “Which do you want, son?” The boy takes the quarters and leaves. “What did I tell you?” said the barber.

“That kid never learns!” Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream

store. “Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?” The boy licked his

cone and replied, “Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!”

I did not get an article in for October, because I was in Florida. However, I thought

some of our members might enjoy some of the pictures I took while there. If you ever

go to Cape Coral, FL you must eat at Ford's Garage. Great food and drink, and fun

things to look at every place you look. Note the Napkin Holders. See Pictures:

A FEW OF CALIFORNIA’S DUMB LAWS Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship. Many animals are illegal to own as pets, including snails, sloths, and elephants. Bathhouses are against the law. In an animal shelter, lizards and snakes are treated under the same guidelines as cats and dogs. No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour. Women may not drive in a house coat.

It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

****************************************************************************************

Ruefully, Silicon Valley Chapter member, Mike Guerreiro was found to still have some

cancer left to deal with after his recent surgery. He started back on chemo-therapy on Monday,

November 11th. Our hopes and prayers go out for total success this time around. Thankfully, his

spirits are up, and he’s up and around healing from the recent surgery. On a visit to him

recently, I even got to see the 56 F-100 he bought just before the surgery, and he started it up

for my listening pleasure. It’s looking and sounding good, and we’re looking forward to doing a lot of cruising with him in

the near future.

Gary Bohn, another member from the Silicon Valley Chapter, went under the knife on Tuesday, November 12th, to

have an artificial knee removed. He’s going to be spending the next three or more months without a knee to allow

doctors to ensure all of the infection has been eliminated, then they’ll put a new knee in place of the old one.

UPDATE ON KEVIN’S 56

As many of you know, former Silicon Valley Chapter member Kevin Koon, along with grampa Bill has been slowly but

surely working on his 56 F-100. I got an e-mail from him with these

pictures showing the progress they’ve made to date. This is a total

“home built” project, including Bill’s paint and body work. Bill has also

included some subtle custom features like hiding all the wiring and

plumbing (heater hoses, etc.) out of sight, and smoothing off the

firewall and inner fender panels. When they finally get it done, it

should be one sharp looking truck.

By the time you read this Bill, Dorsa, and Kevin will have all their

belongings, and their trucks loaded up and moved to Las Vegas,

where they’ve bought a home, and will be living. If any of you should

happen to make it to Vegas, be sure to look them up.

Good luck Bill, Dorsa, and Kevin. We’ll miss you on all the runs

and cruises.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Slow-Cooker Sour Cream Cheesecake

1. 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs 2. 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 3. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 4. 2/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar 5. Salt 6. 12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 7. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 8. 2 large eggs 9. 1 teaspoon pure almond extract 10. 1 cup sour cream

1. In a medium bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs with the melted butter, cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of the sugar and a pinch of salt. Press the crumbs over the bottom and 1 inch up the side of a 6-inch springform pan that's 3 inches deep.

2. In a standing mixer fitted with a paddle, combine the cream cheese with the flour, the remaining 2/3 cup of sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Beat at medium-high speed until smooth, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the side of the bowl and add the eggs and the almond extract. Beat at medium speed until blended. Add the sour cream and beat until smooth. Pour the batter into the springform pan.

3. Fill a 6- to 7-quart round or oval slow cooker with 1/2 inch of water and position a rack in the bottom. Set the cheesecake on the rack. Cover the slow cooker with a triple layer of paper towels and the lid. Turn the cooker to high and cook for 2 hours without peeking. Turn off the heat and let stand until the slow cooker has cooled, 1 hour.

4. Remove the lid and the paper towels and transfer the cheesecake to a rack to cool to room temperature, about 1 hour. Cover the cheesecake with plastic wrap and refrigerate until chilled, at least 4 hours.

5. Heat a sharp, thin-bladed knife under hot water; dry the knife. Carefully run the knife around the edge of the cheesecake. Release the spring and lift the cheesecake out of the mold. Cut into wedges and serve.

So you can better understand us males: A couple was Christmas shopping at the mall on Christmas Eve and the mall was packed. As the wife walked through the mall she was surprised to look up and see her husband was nowhere around. She was quite upset because they had a lot to do. Because she was so worried, she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was. In a calm voice, the husband said, "Honey, you remember the jewelry store we went into about 5 years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that I would get it for you one day?" The wife choked up and started to cry and said, "Yes, I remember that jewelry store." He said,"Well, I'm in the tool store right next to it."

I replaced the running boards and now have a pair of used chrome ones that I am willing to give to anyone interested in them. Willie Sharp, Livermore Chapter Home: 925-846-8336 Cell: 925-963-9681

know. I can be contacted at (408)398-8283 or [email protected]
