With a phenomenal drive and perserverance he brought charter membership in the ATA to 200 by 1950 while running the organi- zation out of his bedroom and continuing his education. After graduation from Col- lege in 1954 he decided to make the ATA his full time occupation. Undaunting perserverance and tireless dedication on Jerry's part have made it what it is today. ·stamp collectors everywhere owe Jerry a tremendous debt · of gratitude. WHO'S WHO IN 1HE WFSC

Member: Jerry Husak

From a twelve year old boys dream in 1944 came the worlds largest all topical Philatelic Society, the ATA (American Topical Association). That boy, dissatisfied with the traditional world wide collecting was Jerry Husak. Jerry developed the original idea and with extra ordinary understanding and support from his parents he single handedly brought about the ATA. With a phenomenal drive and perserverance he brought charter membership in the ATA to 200 by 1950 while running the organization out of his bedroom and continuing his education. After graduation from College in 1954 he decided to make the ATA his full time occupation. He continued his schooling evenings and received his masters degree in Business Administration from Marquette University in 1958. In addition to answering ATA correspondence, campaigning for new·memberships, and marming the ATA booth at stamp shows, Jerry started''ropical Times", as an eight page quarterly. He has developed this into a bimonthly publication of over 90 pages. Jerry has been the instigator behind a multitude of ATA publications and was editor of 'them all for many years.

Eventually the ''bedroomll.'operation:-overran ~the~·home ·arid Jerry was forced :to move the operation into a downtown Milwaukee rented room. A secretary for another firm in the same building was dissatisfied with her job and went to work for Jerry at a greatly reduced salary. Eventually the secretary, Sally Vogel, married Jerry and she and her parents together with Jerry and his parents worked long and hard to make the ATA a success. · Today Jerry is still on the board of directors of \the ATA, rut he has relinquished many of the duties and obligation to others. We still see him constantly out in the stamp collecting cro-wds promoting his favorite "topic", the ATA. .

''Topical Times" the bi-monthly publication of the ATA is now in it's 41st year of supplying pertinent and useful information to stamp collectors around the world. Robert F. Meyer, 69, past president of the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs died November 20, 1990. Bob served as president of the Wisconsin Federation from 1988 to 1989 and was president of the Wauwatosa Philatelic Society from 1983 to 1986. He also was a member of the Polish American Stamp Club, the Germany Philatelic Society of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Philatelic Society.

In 1989 he was the Milwaukee Area Distinguished Philatelist at the third annual appreciation dinner meeting. The criteria for selecting an individual was one who visibily demonstrated repeatedly their interest in stamp collecting and in developing the interest and enjoyment of the hobby for others.
