SYNDICATE NEWS

Middle News

2015 has flown by and the year has been full of fantastic learning experiences that have engaged our children. Over the last couple of weeks classes have gone through our APPLE inquiry process again to make cable cars and catapults. There have been a few crashes and burst water balloons around the school, balanced with plenty of smiles and lots of information being discovered and shared on our google slides. We wish a fond farewell to our students who are moving on to the senior syndicate. We are proud of you and we know you will be excellent leaders and role models for our school. Have a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday. Enjoy the sun, relax and enjoy the time with your families. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

Junior NewsWhat a busy term it has been and hasn’t it just flown by. The children have worked so hard and have achieved so much over the year, how proud you will be of them as are we the teachers. Thank you for all your support this year in all areas of your child’s school life. We so appreciate all you do for the school and to facilitate your child’s learning. For those parents whose children will no longer be in the Junior syndicate we will miss you popping in and having a chat thanks for lending us your children for the past 2+ years. For those returning to us next year we look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready to learn.Merry Christmas and have a safe and happy holiday. from all the teachers in the Junior syndicate.

Senior NewsThe last days of the school year have provided opportunities to do things a little differently. All classes have been completing their inquiries for the term, and sharing them with others. As well as the usual routines, we have also had some time for fun! The Year 6 Farewell featured a guest speaker, Joshua Lodge, who gave them some wise advice amongst his amusing recounts of his own experiences while he was at school and in the army. The children played Christmas carols and also sang their Year 6 song. This year it was a re-formed Queen number.Yesterday we had the camp waterslide out and the children enjoyed having the afternoon to slip and slide the whole length of the playground. We wish all our Year 6 children the best for their new schools in 2016, and hope that all families have a very happy Christmas, and a safe and relaxing holiday.

SCHOOL NEWS

Athletics

Earlier in the term our athletics team competed at the North Zone Athletic sports at the Caledonian ground. Kaikorai athletes competed very well and nineteen of these went on to represent Kaikorai at the Otago Athletics Championships. Three relay teams went on to contest finals on the day. Our standout performance was by Gemma Rowcroft, who ran a strong 800m race and was placed second in Otago. Gemma and Duncan Bell are the North Zone 800m champions.Nikola Ballard transported athletes and minded them on the day and we wish to thank her for her support at the Champs. This ensured the safety and well being of our children and allowed staff to take up responsibilities out in the field.

Summer Sports

Futsal, Touch, Flippaball and T ball have been successful summer sports for our kids with 21 Kaikorai teams across the sports in term 4.Congratulations to all the children who have enjoyed a summer sport in term 4. Thank you to the parents and caregivers who transport children and support our teams. In order to offer sports for so many children we rely on the help of parents. In particular, we wish to acknowledge and thank the huge amount of support we have had all term from a number of parent coaches and managers.Tania Bell, Steve and Amanda Dyer, Matt Ballard, Mel Black, Nadine Ayson, Stu Macbeth, Jane Reynolds, Vicki Mitchell, Steve Murphy , Murray Devereux, Paul Twemlow, Roly Hill and Kylie Ellis, Anthony Rowcroft, Gareth Taylor, Roger Southby, Lana Lloyd, Janet Ashcroft, student Jimmy McEwen, and Tony Allison.

Some year six children and others have borrowed school jackets, singlets and tops. Please wash and return any of these prior to the end of the year.

2016 Te Reo Programme

The Board of Trustees in conjunction with Manawa Enterprises are pleased to announce a new Te Reo programme starting next year. Well known faces around the school, Koopua and Ana Waititi will be working in classrooms next year delivering Te Reo to all students for 30-45 mins per week. Message from the Board Trustees2015 has been a fantastic year for all at Kaikorai Primary. The year commenced with the ERO review which identified that Kaikorai Primary School has a welcoming culture built around the school values. Students access a broad curriculum where learning is meaningfully integrated across all subjects. Term 3 saw a wonderful production with all students participating and wowing the audience with their performances.

The Board would like to wish the Year 6 school leavers all the best in their transition to new schools and know that they are taking with them the values and quest for lifelong learning that they have gained during their time at Kaikorai.

We would also like to thank principal Simon Clarke and all the staff for their commitment to and care of our students.

We extend our warmest wishes to all

families for a merry Christmas and

happy New Year.

Message from the Parent Group

We would like to thank all the parents who helped and contributed to our fundraising activities for 2015.

This year the Parent Group have been able to fund many different programmes and purchases to support our children's learning.  Some of these highlights include the purchase of 30 Chromebooks, production costs, the funding of the chatbus and subsiding many of the education outside of the classroom trips.

Next year is a fair year and we look forward to the continued support of our school community.

We wish you all a safe and happy holiday.
