On the 7th of December 2012 some year 7s went on a trip to France. Where we got to go shopping and speak French. It was amazing. But the journey wasn’t … The journey to Dover was about 5 hours long on a coach. When we got to Dover we spent an hour in the services. After that we boarded the ferry. It took an hour and a half to get to Calais. We then drove to Lille and went Christmas shopping. It was a great experience! Thank you Mrs Hogg for taking us and all the other teachers for coming. Everyone enjoyed it, so thank you! By Georgia Fidler and Holly Newton 7FT FRANCE I really enjoyed the trip to France, apart from feeling sea sick on the ferry! I loved the atmosphere in the French Christmas markets and enjoyed speaking in French to stall holders. I was really excited about going, I have never been to France before. It really lived up to my expectations and I would love to go back again, but for longer than a day next time. Everyone!

Voice in a Million 201230 students ranging from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in the Voice in a Million event at the LG Arena in Birmingham in October. We were delighted to be able to take part, providing our students with the opportunity to participate in an amazing experience. We all had a fantastic time and our students all behaved impeccably, sang beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

PUNCTUATION WORKSHOPOn the morning of Wednesday 21st November, Heathfield welcomed Barrie from Podcastrevision who presented his fun and interactive Punctuation Workshop. The English department is always looking for ways to make teaching and learning more interactive and the Punctuation Workshop was definitely that. The pupils and staff were singing, dancing and laughing whilst learning important skills! It was a fantastic morning, enjoyed by both staff and pupils! Let’s hope that the pupils use their new found skills across the curriculum!Liz Coley – Curriculum Leader for English

Teach your children about other cultures, meet new people and make the world a little friendlier! To learn more about volunteer hosting at Christmas or any weekend of the year, see www.hostuk.org or contact Marie Songhurst on 0113 260 7270.

ParEnt GoVErnorSThere is still one vacancy for a parent on the Governing body of the Academy. ANY parent can be a Governor, you do not need to have any particular skills or qualifications but you do need to care about the school being as good as it could possibly be and you do need to care about young people in our community. If you would like to be a parent governor, or would just like more information please call the school office on 01455 842149 and either Graham Jones (Head) or Diane Buckingham (Clerk) will get back to you.

LoSt ProPErtyWe have a number of items of clothing in lost property. Please encourage your child to check lost property for anything they may have lost recently. We also ask that all property is named in future. Remaining clothing will be thrown away at the end of term.
