Transition to a Free All Digital Publication December 2012 Volume Thirty Three Number Twelve 2 0 1 3 As the saying goes, “the times, they are a changin.” Beginning with the January 2013 issue, The Epidemiology Monitor begins its formal transition to becoming a free access, all digital publication. Access to the online digital edition will be free of charge to all readers who subscribe by visiting www.epimonitor.net/Subscribe.htm and providing their email address. This change is in response to the opportunities afforded by new technologies and the changing reading habits of persons in the digital age. The newsletter will appear online in the same familiar format subscribers are accustomed to, and they will be able to read through the publication on their computers or tablets in the same manner as they did with the print version. Over the next year, we will work to make the newsletter available on a wider range of mobile devices. Readers with paid subscriptions that extend into 2013 will continue to receive a print version of the newsletter until their subscription expires. We will not renew or accept any new subscriptions for print copies effective January 15, 2013. All digital subscribers will be able to print the newsletter if they wish and save and retrieve copies easily. The benefits of the online version, in addition to cost savings, include easier access to more timely information, receiving an alert about each issue, and having the ability to link to information from news articles and advertisements. For advertisers, the digital edition will provide the option to present full color ads, and the newsletter’s open access will give advertisers significantly wider circulation to more readers. For all of us, the digital edition is more environment-friendly. One thing that will not change is our commitment to meet the news and information needs of the epidemiology community. We hope that you will join us in this move into a digital future and share this notice about free access with your friends and colleagues in epidemiology and public health. Subscribe now at www.epimonitor.net/Subscribe.htm . We invite you to send us your comments and suggestions on how we can continue to serve most effectively as “the voice of epidemiology” in the digital age.
