Transcript of Debt Awareness Week 2016
2016
January
January 4th – 31st
What is it? It’s the time of year when we ask all of our
900 partner organisations to come together
at the same time to raise awareness of
free debt advice to their
customers/clients/employees who may be
struggling financially.
This will be our third Debt Awareness
Week and we want to make it our most
successful yet.
In 2015, more than 400 organisations got
involved and this year we want to make it
even bigger.
But, we can’t do it without your support.
When is it? After listening to your feedback, we have
decided to run Debt Awareness Week a
little differently in 2016.
Instead of having a set week like we did
for 2014 & 2015, we are providing you
with all the free resources you need to
run your own Debt Awareness Week at
any point during the month of January.
We’re hoping that this extra flexibility will
give you the chance to get involved in
2016.
January 4th – 31st
You can now run your own Debt Awareness Week at any time during
January
Why January? UK wide trigger point– people will be
receiving their first credit card/bank statements
from their Christmas spend that very week and
this could act as the trigger to take positive
action.
Natural noise – throughout the whole month
of January there’s a lot of natural UK wide
media coverage on financial wellbeing, so
there is no better time to signpost people who
are struggling financially through to free debt
advice.
New Year Resolutions - people will be in a
more positive, action orientated mind set in
January and ready to tackle their debt.
January 4th – 31st
What is this year’s theme? After consulting with a number of partner
organisations we’ve decided that Debt Awareness
Week 2016 will be the 7 Days, 7 Ways to Deal with
Debt campaign.
The campaign encourages people to sign-up to a
positive, action orientated 7 day email programme
created by our own expert debt advisors that will help
them to take back control of their finances again.
It’s free debt advice delivered in an engaging way
that is different from anything else out there – it’s a
jargon-free zone.
New for 2016 – we have refreshed our 7 Days, 7
Ways programme to now include mindfulness tips
from the Mental Health Foundation to help people
deal with their debt and take care of their mental
health and wellbeing at the same time.

FAQ
January 4th – 31st
What is 7 Days, 7 Ways to deal with debt?
Dealing with debt can be daunting, but our simple 7 Days, 7 Ways to deal with debt email programme helps
people to take control of their finances.
Written by our expert debt advisors, our programme is the perfect starting point in helping people to deal
with debt. Each day for a week, we will send through an email linking to practical advice that will help them
to figure out what they owe, which payments are priorities, and help them to put together a long-term action
plan.
What is mindfulness?
In a nutshell, ‘Mindfulness’ is paying attention (or being mindful) of the present moment, without getting
stuck in the past or worrying about the future. It’s a simple method that can really change the way you
manage and react to stressful everyday situations, and help you to stay mentally healthy. The other great
thing about mindfulness is that you can do it for 5 minutes or 5 hours, and tailor it to suit your own needs
and lifestyles.
Mindfulness and free debt advice working together?
We have refreshed our 7 Days, 7 Ways programme to now include mindfulness tips from the Mental Health
Foundation to help people deal with their debt and take care of their mental health and wellbeing at the
same time.

Q&A – part 2
When can I order my materials?
Campaign materials are available to order now through a number of channels including your Relationship
Manager/Business Development Manager or our resource centre www.stepchange.org/partners
Where can I use the materials?
The toolkit has been designed to be used across a number of audiences and we are leaving it entirely up to
you on how you use them. As a starter for ten, most organisations use the materials around their offices or
to engage their clients/customers. The digital toolkit is also free to download and the assets can be used
across your intranet or consumer facing websites.
Do the materials have a shelf life?
No, we haven’t dated any of the materials, but we do ask that you have them up in January 2016 to ensure
we create as much awareness of free debt advice as possible.
When will I receive my toolkits?
Because the campaign isn’t until January, you will receive your toolkits at the start of December.
