TEAM DRAUMURINN HISTORY

Team Draumurinn was formed in 2012 with the purpose of racing unlimited class Formula Offroad. We are expanding our professional race team to compete at the highest level of racing in Iceland and the NEZ-FIA circuit including Norway, Sweden, Denmark and now the United States of America, the most recent country to join this exciting motorsport.

The primary objective of Draumurinn Racing is to organize a strong and dedicated Formula Offroad Team. We bring to this sport a network of skilled team members who are professional and passionate. We have unwavering commitment to represent the team and our sponsors with pride and professionalism at all times. We promote the sport of Formula Offroad and bring it to be affordable and fun for people of all ages and nationalities.

The primary goal of Team Draumurinn is simple. We compete at the highest level everyday. We want the fans to be in awe as we challenge the laws of physics and the boundaries of common sense. THE DREAM MACHINE

The machine was designed and built in 1997 by Helgi Schiöth for Einar Gunnlaugsson and raced under the name Drekinn (The Dragon). After many years it was sold to Garðar Sigurðsson and continued racing. In 2011 it became available and Gestur J Ingolfsson bought the truck and renamed it Draumurinn (The Dream), as this had been Gestur’s dream to own a truck and race formula offroad. The Dream Team Owner / Driver: Gestur J Ingólfsson As a young boy Gestur watched as Formula Offroad evolved. As this was his favorite sport, he later joined the Frissi Fríski team, learning from Formula Offroad pioneer Helgi Schiöth. Gestur first competed as the driver of Draumurinn in May 2012 and has built a reputation for both safety and crowd-pleasing displays of power! When he’s not piloting the heavyweight champion of formula offroad racing, Gestur is a commercial fisherman with a wife and 2 children.

Team Captain: Valdimar G Valdimarsson As a career auto mechanic, Valdi has been interested in offroad cars for more than 30 years and has been actively involved with offroad racing since 1997. He has served as team captain for Draumurinn since 2012. He is also the chairman of the 4x4 department of Bilaklubbar Akureyrar, the largest automobile club in northern Iceland.

Fjölnir Örn Ársælsson Formally trained as engineer and drawn to the sea, Fjolnir was a fisherman for 11 years and was chief engineer for the ship. He loves motorsports, especially formula offroad and drag racing. Serving on Team Draumurinn since 2013, Fjolnir is often found in the garage and the pit area, ready to tweak the truck for maximum performance.

Kári Ingvarsson is an engineer working for Air Iceland Connect at Akureyri airport. His interest in motorsports naturally brought him to offroad competition as a spectator and eventually as a valued member of Team Draumurinn.

Elvar Sigurdursson is a second generation formula offroad enthusiast. His father raced in modified class in the 1980s and a team member for Gunnar Einarsson’s Drekinn in the 1990s. Elvar became involved with Team Draumurinn in 2014.

Bjarki Reynisson is a mechanical engineer working as a engineer in the biggest ship yard in Iceland since 2013. He loves cars and motorsports, especially drag racing and off-road racing sports. He joined Team Draumurinn in 2015.

Andrew Blackwood was introduced to formula offroad via television in 1999 and spent many years watching video clips. Over a decade later he found himself in a snow-covered garage in northern Iceland, meeting the team truck and seeing a formula offroad truck for the first time. In the spring of 2016 he attended his first live competition and earned a spot on Team Draumurinn later that year.

Einar M Thorgeirsson Is well known as a talented auto mechanic in a reputable repair shop in Akureyri. His interest in all forms of motorsports has been a lifelong quest to discover power, performance and efficiency. New to Team Draumurinn in 2017, he is an invaluable asset.

TEAM DRAUMURINN – 2018 GOALS

During the 2018 racing season, we will compete in the Icelandic National Championship Series as well as the NEZ-FIA Champion series in Iceland and Norway. We will also return to the United States, appearing in the 3rd Formula Offroad USA competition. We have placed 4th overall each of the previous 2 years and expect to improve this ranking in 2018.

FUTURE PLANS INCLUDE:

1) Complete new rear-end design and debut in 2018 season.

2) Cultivate sustainable partnerships with sponsors and contribute to emerging tools, accessories and parts for the future.

3) Apply the latest technology to improve the truck, set new standards for durability, increase performance and command positive attention of competitors, spectators and sponsors.

4) Promote the sport of Formula Offroad with emphasis on safety, responsibility and sustainability.

October 7, 2017: Team Draumurinn sets a new speed record. This 300 meter course is across water deep enough to swallow the tires. Draumurinn skimmed across in a blistering 9.36 seconds reaching speeds over 60 mph, beating the nearest competitor by 1.5 seconds!
