Dear, Parents, Players, and Coaches, On behalf of Merritt Island Little League, it’s my sincere pleasure to welcome you to our 2008 spring baseball season. Opening day brings joy, excitement, and renewed enthusiasm throughout the commu-nity. Our children are creating and sharing precious moments through the game of baseball. Our players will be acquiring necessary social skills, fundamentals, along with ideals to stimulate progress and growth.

I would like to reflect on a tremendous 2007 fall, spring, and post baseball season. MILL and our com-munity enjoyed a terrific year. Our league worked diligently, and hosted fall baseball for consecutive sea-sons; 2006, 2007. The fall leagues were respectively enormous, consisting of 31 teams and 370 players per season. Five local little leagues united across the county to play baseball. This was an incredible commu-nity wide effort and experience. Our MILL 2007 regular and post season was equally magnificent. Our league proudly furnished two teams which competed at the annual “County Tournament.” In addition, all three MILL All-Star Teams valiantly participated in District Championship Games! The 11-12 year old team won the District 22 Championship. As a whole, our league enjoyed a fabulous year.

Furthermore, we need to thank, recognize, and acknowledge the numerous generous contributors to MILL. I would like to commend our Board of Directors. We are extremely fortunate to have volunteers who are motivated, dedicated, and give their time to prepare for a lengthy season. We should be proud, and respect their commitment while working cooperatively through the entire year.

In addition, we are grateful for our other contributors who remain actively involved. Equally, they share our vision toward a bright future. I would like to extend thanks to our managers and coaches for their guidance and leadership. They continue to provide quality instruction while building character and courage. Our Team Mom’s ensure structure and stability throughout the entire season. We appreciate your nurturing touch. Please be thankful for our fantastic volunteer umpires. They continue to be consis-tent, and do a tremendous job within our local league. We would like to extend our gratitude to our com-munity partners. We truly appreciate your support, kindness, and generosity. Also, a special thanks to the Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department for the wonderful facilities. As guests, please care and take pride in these beautiful parks. Lastly, I would like to thank the entire community. The success of a local little league is predicated on volunteers. Through your efforts we will be able to teach the rewards of teamwork, respect, self-discipline, and responsibility. As adults, role models, we are ultimately respon-sible for teaching the concept of “sportsmanship” to our youth. We must provide a safe, fun, positive envi-ronment which will cultivate the growth of each child. Little league was established for children to play, thrive, while building confidence in a healthy atmosphere.

In conclusion, we are eagerly looking forward to a great season. Please remember, baseball is Amer-ica’s “past-time,” part of our culture and country’s rich history. I sincerely hope this year lends ample opportunity for children and adults to unite, while fostering respect for one another. Please embrace each unique child. I firmly believe we should challenge our players in a peaceful, respectful, nurturing setting conducive to learning. It is vital we support their commitment with positive encouragement. We must build the confidence and self-esteem of our future generation. Our children will often struggle, stumble, and encounter humbling situations. But, we must prepare our youth for certain life experiences. Please be proud and adore the children for the immense joy they bring to our daily lives.
