Dear Oak Class, Here we are on Friday! You’ve made it to the weekend after today – Love Mr N x Friday 17 th July 2020 Handwriting Letters a-z Can you practice all of your letters a-z in lowercase. Make sure you’re looking really carefully at the formation and that they’re facing the right direction. Maths Magic 5 Number of the Day Flashback 4 Comparing capacity Magic 5 is listed below. Good luck! Remember to use the same strategies as you’ve been shown. Our Number of the Day today is 27! Flashback 4 Day 4 is below. Can you get all four? I hope your whistle stop tour to weight and capacity has gone okay! I do apologise it has been a bit rushed, but we’ll continue to make progress on this area as we progress into Year 2. I’ve also tried to make this learning more practical at home to support the willingness of doing it and not having to rely on printing x, y and z! Today, we’re moving onto our final part being comparing capacity. You might recall something similar from yesterday with comparing mass. Starter Order these following containers from most full to least full. Comparing capacity is all about the use of language like smallest and largest but also the use of language such as greater than, less than and equal to. Something we all know about is our trusty crocodile mouths! <, > and =. Can you use them to complete the following pictures? (The second one is good for discussion!) A B C D

Comparing capacity

Magic 5 is listed below.

(The second one is good for discussion!)

Below, you will see 3 glasses labelled A, B and C. Can you colour in the cups the show that A’s liquid is greater than C’s but not B’s?

A B C Using your estimation skills and observation of size and number, complete the following task: Remember to explain why you think that is the answer.

I would now like to set you another practical task and this one is called the puddle prediction! I would like you to get three different containers and fill them with some water. Choose one container and tip the water onto the floor OUTSIDE TASK and see how big of a puddle it makes. Now, choose another container. Before you pour it onto the ground, I would like you to make a prediction to see if it will make a bigger puddle than the last one or a smaller puddle. Can you explain why you chose that answer? If you have chalk at home, you could even draw a circle to predict how big you think the puddle might be! Complete this again with your final container.

Phonics Soundcard

practice

Real and alien words.

I’d like you to practice saying all of your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds (see below). Put a little dot on the ones you didn’t quite get, practice these later today and keep the sounds fresh in your head. Or feel free to use PhonicsPlay again! I hope the alien and real word reading went okay yesterday? We’re back to it again to continue practising those skills.

Dough Disco

Around now we would normally do some dough disco! Why don’t you teach mum or dad how to do it? Choose whichever funky song you like! These are some of our moves.

Sphere Sausage Tiger Milk-shake Squeeze from hand to hand Round the world Through the legs Squash – up, down, behind the head Flat pancake – ABC Flower Hedgehog Granny shark Make a rose

English Correct the

sentence

Finishing the story

Today’s sentence is below… Did I catch anyone out yesterday with the correct sentence? Guys, you’ve done it. You’ve made it! We are at the very end of your big piece of writing for Year 1. After this, I won’t be making you do another big piece of writing for a long time… how does a 6 week holiday sound? I’m sure that will give you lots of time to recharge your batteries ready to do more writing in Year 2 (hehe). This is your final part now, your box 4 and 5 to bring your story to a close. I hope you have enjoyed reading ‘The School Cow’ version that I wrote. I sometimes wonder where I get my ideas from but I think its maybe because I haven’t got you guys around me to keep my imagination from running wild!! (I also don’t really know why the first animal that came into my head was a cow?!) See below the final part of The School Cow. Have a go at making yours sound 10 times better – which I know it will!! Please, please send them to me. I really would love to see how you’ve got on especially as it’s the final one and I can see what amazing writers we’ll see return in September.

Once you have finished your writing, you will find on our class page that there is a story called ‘The Storm Whale in Winter’ which is a follow on from ‘The Storm Whale’ – it’s a lovely story again and I have filmed myself reading it for you.

Reading

Rising Stars again, a couple of pages will be great, or your own book at home Remember, if you’ve finished your collection – just let me know and I’ll send the next challenge.

Music

Understanding musical vocabulary

In music, which we did before lockdown (apologies about there not being much music but it’s quite hard to set music home learning without them being able to listen directly to the song from the programme we’re linked to. It would also have required a glockenspiel and I can’t imagine they’re the types of instruments you’d have lying around your house!) We were beginning to get really confident with some of our musical vocabulary in class. I know it’s been a few months now so you might have forgotten some of them. I would like you to do some research and find out what each of these words mean in musical terms and write something short about each one. Can you remember them if you’re quizzed?
