Dear Ladies and Gentlmen, As the organizers of the afrykanowaka.pl expedition we would like to invite you to start sponsoring cooperation which aims at achieving a noble goal. The range of our undertaking is so vast that in order to be able to achieve our goal we will need both financial support and certain equipment given by our potential sponsors. Our expedition will take a form of a bike relay race through Africa following the route of the great Polish traveler Kazimierz Nowak; this way we want to commemorate his success. Kazimierz went across the African continent twice; he went from Tripoli to Cape Town and back to Agiler. The enterprise will start on the 4th November 2009 and its realization will take two years. The more detailed description you will find on the following pages of this document. Our project has got both patriotic and social aims that go far beyond pure traveling motives, therefore it raises growing interest on the part of media. We are sure that you will also find corporate image and measurable be- nefits from the participation in the mentioned project. The interest of media has already born fruits in the form of newspaper articles as well as radio reports and TV broadcasts about our excursion. We are under the auspice of: Our media patronage promises the publication of series of reports about the relay race in papers and on the Internet. Throughout the following 2 years 24 articles are going to appear in RowerTour (including 4 issues where reports will be highlighted on the cover). Each issue will have a special place reserved only for logotypes of the sponsors. Inside stories will appear simultaneously in several electronic media including our portal www. afrykanowaka.pl. The expedition will be media supported by realization of accompanying projects. These projects will contribute to the increase of the variety of means of media which will be for the use of our sponsors. This will include: Realization of three professional documentaries from cho- sen stages of the expedition afrykanowaka.pl. The first part of it – through Libyan Desert will be filmed by Kasper Piasecki – the author of the film titled Monari (www.keniafilm.pl), later the following By bike through Black Africa from the parts from Zambia or Zimbabwe also by horse and dugout through tropics of Angola. Release of at least 2 books consisting of journey reports, whose prototype will be: By bike and on foot through Black Africa by Kazimierz Nowak, the book being compiled by Łukasz Wierzbicki, published by Sorus Publishing House.

Dear Ladies and Gentlmen,

As the organizers of the afrykanowaka.pl expedition we would like to invite you to start sponsoring cooperation which aims at achieving a noble goal.

We are sure that you will also find corporate image and measurable be-nefits from the participation in the mentioned project.

The interest of media has already born fruits in the form of newspaper articles as well as radio reports and TV broadcasts about our excursion. We are under the auspice of:

Our media patronage promises the publication of series of reports about the relay race in papers and on the Internet. Throughout the following 2 years 24 articles are going to appear in RowerTour (including 4 issues where reports will be highlighted on the cover). Each issue will have a special place reserved only for logotypes of the sponsors. Inside stories will appear simultaneously in several electronic media including our portal www.afrykanowaka.pl.

The expedition will be media supported by realization of accompanying projects. These projects will contribute to the increase of the variety of means of media which will be for the use of our sponsors. This will include:

• Realization of three professional documentaries from cho-sen stages of the expedition afrykanowaka.pl. The first part of it – through Libyan Desert will be filmed by Kasper Piasecki – the author of the film titled Monari (www.keniafilm.pl), later the following By bike through Black Africa from the parts from Zambia or Zimbabwe also by horse and dugout through tropics of Angola.

• Release of at least 2 books consisting of journey reports, whose prototype will be: By bike and on foot through Black Africa by Kazimierz Nowak, the book being compiled by Łukasz Wierzbicki, published by Sorus Publishing House.

Within sponsorship cooperation we would like you to choose a solution which will be more convenient for you:

1. Stages sponsorship Stages sponsorship means providing money for the single stage of a journey – the sponsor will pay for a flight to Africa and for the return ticket as well as for other travelling expenses. Estimated cost of the sponsorship of the first stage in Libya equals 6-8000 PLN.

2. Equipment sponsorship Equipment sponsorship means providing bicycles and camping equipment, (such as tents, sleeping bags, camping accessories, filters, cameras, navigation and communication equipment) as well as appropriate clothes and shoes for those who participate in the journey.

3. The main sponsor of the journeyThe main sponsor of the journey will provide money for the expedition, popularization of Kazimierz Nowak in Africa and in European media, for publishing and educational projects (such as comme-morative plaques devoted to Kazimierz Nowak’s stay in Africa). The main sponsor will also provide money for the starting equipment, managing the website www.afrykanowaka.pl , film editing, travel-ling expenses and permit and also for possible rescue operations. Subsidy amounts 150 000-200 000 PLN.

In return for your support we would like to offer advertisements commensurate with the extent of your sponsorship. The advertisements will be present both in media and in publications connected with a project (films, books, presentations of the journey during various travel events etc).

Detailed conditions of the sponsorship contractwill be negotiated with each entity on an individual basis.

NOWAK’S AFRICA – an expedition along the route

of Kazimierz Nowak

From Tripoli in North Africa to Cape Agulhas on its southern tip, and back again northward to Algiers on the Mediterranean coast.

This will be the route of our bicycle trek: 40,000 kilometres through the African wilderness. 17 countries. A test of sturdiness for the people and for the equipment.

In his accounts of the expedition, Nowak devotes a lot of attention to people. His insight into the mentality of Africa’s inhabitants, and the relations between them, is striking. In a time when the whole world perceived Africa mainly as a source of colonies and wealth, Nowak would discern human beings and social problems. Only today, in the face of present-day crises menacing Africa, his visionariness and wise judgment transpire.

It is exactly this interest in people that we would like to make the main theme of our journey of remembrance. We are not going there just to watch, but to learn. We want to experience the places that we will reach. Interac-tion with people who we are going to cross paths with will be crucial. Kazimierz Nowak proved that by having a basic knowledge of the culture and mentality of people you meet and by treating them with respect, you can earn their kindness. These people’s assistance, which we are counting on, is going to be an indispensable ele-ment for our expedition to be successful. The motto for our journey is the African proverb: first the neighbour, then the home; first the companion, then the road. We believe that such approach will allow us to complete the whole journey successfully, with a finish in Algiers.

Because of various kinds of restrictions, the itinerary has been divided into stages, and its individual sections will be covered by teams of 3-4 people. This is meant to be a kind of a relay devoted to Kazimierz Nowak. We will begin our journey on November 11th, 2009 at the same train station in Poznań where 78 years ago our hero set out on his.

In 1931-1936, Kazimierz Nowak was the first man in the world to cover this route in a solo expedition, “a titan of unbending fortitude and a giant of indomitable will” as his friend once de-scribed him.

His extraordinary feat has never been adequately appreciated. Our expedition is a way of remembering this remarkable man and his journey. We would like to promote Kazimierz Nowak’s pro-file and achievements at home and abroad. Through our unique expedition, we hope to draw attention to his accomplishments and to secure a well-deserved place for him among the greatest travellers and explorers.

The promotion of Kazimierz Nowak’s profile and his achievements in the international arena. the Dark Continent than the so-called “Great Explorers” like Stanley or Livingstone.

Piotr Sudoł, Zbyszek Sas and Jakub Pająk are the originators and initiators of this considerable undertaking. Other travellers intere-sted in the promotion of Kazimierz Nowak’s profile were asked to take part in the journey. Each of them will take responsibility for one stage of the expedition:

Piotr SudołHighly enthusiastic about bicycles, fascinated by the romantic poetics of Kazimierz Nowak’s figure. He graduated from Adam Mickiewicz Uni-versity (journalism). He is also a bicycle fitness instructor. He performed the duties of a navigator and a mechanic during a bike expedition to Ma-dagascar – the expedition received a honourable mention at the Kolosy awards (a Polish travel and exploration award ceremony) for the Trip of the Year 2008. He has taken part in the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon Series and adventure races. He is the owner of a trading company. www.madagascar-extreme.com

Zbyszek SasA poet of life, immensely enthusiastic about travelling and extreme bicycle riding, passionate about kayaking and sailing, a personification of an (extreme) philosophy on life: “Head always dies last”. He received a honourable mention in the Trip of the Year 2008 category at the Kolo-sy awards for the bike expedition to Ambinanitelo (Madagascar). He is the owner of Italian restaurants and colonial cafes.www.madagascar-extreme.com

Jakub PająkA keen traveller and photographer particularly interested in the Sahara. At the moment he is a Ph.D. student of geotourism (Department of Geo-logy, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the AGH Academy in Kraków). He was awarded with a Kolos award in the Journey category (Kolos 2008) for his expedition „Salt Caravan through the Sahara, Tim-buktu-Taoudenni-Timbuktu (Mali)”, lasting 6 weeks and covering over 1500 kilometers. The journey gave him a great opportunity to watch the daily life of the caravan during his work as a helper and camel herd-sman. www.daalej.prv.pl

Łukasz WierzbickiAn animal lover and a travel enthusiast. Inspired by his grandfather’s stories he decided to find and examine Kaziemierz Nowak’s reports on his journey to Africa. He compiled them and issued as a book “Across the Dark Continent by bicycle and on foot”; a book being called remarkable by Ryszard Kapuściński who recognized it as an impressive example of a Polish foreign report. In 2008 he made his debut as an author of „Kazik’s Africa” – popular espe-cially among children. The story, sometimes amusing, sometimes frightening, provided a basis for a comic book: “Africa. Kazik’s Great Journey”. Because of children and their passionate interest in travels Łukasz Wierzbicki decided to put out a book “Grandpa and the Bear”, a book telling the story of a bear named Wojtek in Anders Army. As for his participation in the expedition, he wants to make its participants switch from bicycles to horsebacks, just as Kazimierz Nowak did. www.lukaszwierzbicki.pl

Paweł Dusza (Duszak Team) Marks on his school certificate were different but games` mark was always the best. Paweł has taken part in many a sports contest since his childhood. It wasn`t important whether to play football, hockey, skate or run, but the most important was the ability to have an active and interesting spare time. Some of the sports were very serious like Berlin`s International Football Contest or two years of Break Dancing. However, the mounta-ins, the bicycle and the extremal riding became his main pas-sion. Nowadays, trekking boots and a bicycle are with him all the time. They link his hobby with his profesion. Thanks to these things Paweł visited lots of places despite his young age. He reached places many of us could only dream of.www.wyprawy.org

Marek Dusza - (Duszak Team)Acquiring the knowledge in mathematics, physics and thermodynamics (Marek graduated from the Silesian Technical University in Gliwice) was very helpful and or even invaluable when travelling around the world. Gre-at passion for sports (especially endurance sports) and the desire to know the world, not only on the map, made him one of the first to combine mountain climbing with cycling expeditions. He has been travelling for several years together with his brother. He is a frequent guest at mountain and travel festivals (KFG, Kolosy), etc.www.wyprawy.org
