- 5 Road Safety Combining insufficient traffic management with inexperienced drivers and lax driving habits, China has become one of the biggest contributors to the worlds traffic fatalities With only 3% of the worlds vehicles, China accounts for 24% of the worlds traffic fatalities Road fatalities at 62,387 in 2011 - 28% are motorcycle users In 2011, the mortality rate from traffic accidents was 8.7 per 100,000 people in urban areas Traffic accidents cost the Chinese economy $21 billion a year.
