Welcome to the Oct / Nov EditionWe’ve really been on a roller coaster ride here at Deal Hound HQ putting into action all your fab suggestions. It’s been hard work, but we’ve included a live music guide on pages 20 and 21. We’ll be adding to this in later issues, so if there’s something you want to see in there please get in touch. We now have a Family Days Out Guide on pages 18 and 19. So it makes it easy just to have a quick look and see where to go, and then as usual we have our What’s On Guide on pages 22 and 23. Hopefully that little lot will prove useful, if you need anything else or have something to add then just email [email protected]

Our Hero this edition is Change Aid Ltd on page 8. We love what they’re doing helping people to gain skills and get back on track again. Please help if you can, because these guys can be life

changing to those involved...it’s great for the environment too. Take a look of what they have for sale too, especially good if you’re setting up home for the first time.

Business News this edition is a bit scary. It’s all about the agreement between the U.S and E.U. If you are not happy with this agreement then please sign the petition. We couldn’t believe all this was going on behind closed doors!

And finally we have to admit that it is officially the run up to Christmas. Don’t be fooled by the late sunshine. I’ve already bought two Christmas presents and actually received one!

I hope you enjoy this issue

Biz News: Get Vince Cable to Scrap TTIP?

Ok so you’re asking what is TTIP?Well it’s the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. It’s quite an elegant sounding name! It is meant to help free trade between the E.U and the U.S. However the reality is that if this goes through it will allow companies to sue our government for protecting people and the planet. Whether you hate or love the government, if any money is being paid in compensation, it will be down to you and me to foot the bill! This free trade agreement is supposed to be aimed at delivering prosperity, but in reality it is mainly to the benefit of banks and big corporations. All the negotiations are done in private, so the press cannot gain access and report exactly what is going on. Once the negotiations are done it will be binding and irreversible; it could even mean the part privatisation of the NHS and other public services. So here’s an example of what could happen. If our government decides to ban fracking in certain areas (or for certain companies) then a fracking company can sue the government for £250M in compensation (as now they can’t earn any money). If all this sounds unbelievable it is EXACTLY what is taking place now in Canada. Under NAFTA (that’s the North American version between US, Canada and Mexico) A fracking company is suing Canada for $250M. It’s ludicrous and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Because it’s not just fracking companies who can do this. Currently we ban many substances which are still widely used in the US, such as certain hormones in our livestock and our employment laws are more generous. So if this restricts a company from trading in the U.K, then they can simply sue us for loss of prospective earnings. The implications are many fold and with such a huge impact at stake, we say get Vince Cable to rethink! Will you sign the petition https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/page/s/vince-cable-fix-ttip#petition

We had a few quotes for replacement windows. However when Custom Windows and Doors quoted I could tell that they were good quality. Russ absolutely knew his product and explained all the safety aspects of them. He explained that everything could be undertaken including the building work too ( which was especially helpful to create what we wanted).

They arrived and did the work on time, they were very professional and left a great, tidy, clean job. We were very pleased. The price was excellent too and much cheaper than the other quotations we had.

I would definitely use them again and have already referred them to friends.

Doncaster Heroes

Not For Profit Recycling CompanyWe hear in the news about people becoming depressed because they can’t find work. When they have no employability skills the problem is magnified somewhat; they lose confidence, have low self-esteem and can become withdrawn. So what is available to these people in Doncaster? Well they can get all the support and training they need from Change Aid. Change Aid was the brain child of Larry John in 2009. Having previously worked in the construction industry all his life until the financial crises put a stop to most building work, Larry knew only too well what it felt like to have to retrain. He became a support worker at a hostel and witnessed the trials and tribulations of Doncaster’s most vulnerable trying hard to get back on track.“I wanted to help” Larry said, “I could see that they only wanted to acquire the skills to get back on the straight and narrow. They were willing to work hard but many had to overcome years of various hardships which had severely affected their self-confidence. They were trapped in their shells, with their head down, hardly even looking up. So I made it my goal to find a solution.”

Larry knew that even back in times of austerity, the recycling sector was still buoyant. So he began Change Aid as a Social Enterprise. It helps people gain qualifications in Recycling, Administration, Maths, English and Health and Safety. They currently recycle 40 tonnes of plastic, cardboard and paper per month! That’s quite an achievement. However it’s what they’ve achieved with people that makes them totally amazing; it’s staggering, nearly 700 individuals have been helped to gain experience and qualifications.

“We teach our volunteers’ valuable employability skills” Larry explained “we provide certificates which actually mean something and shows they have applied themselves.” Larry obviously gets a buzz out of helping people. He’s seen the difference in how people can develop into confident members of society who feel worthwhile with something to put back. It’s not only about helping people gain qualifications that Change Aid Ltd is about, they also have a great range of refurbished furniture for sale. So if you want a bargain take a look at their facebook page.Want to help? You can volunteer to work with Change Aid Ltd, donate recyclable goods and furniture. All donations are gratefully received and you will have the satisfaction that you are doing something which can have a profound effect on the most vulnerable people in Doncaster.

Julie’s JauntsIt’s Not My Party, But I’ll Cry If I Want To...There’s nothing I hate more than a house party. You know the scenario; someone you hardly speak to wants to make up the numbers. They call, feigning interest and ask what you’re up to. You exchange pleasantries and they casually ask if your weekends are planned in military fashion or if you take them leisurely? Well no one wants to admit to a military planned weekend, So I say “Oh we like to just pop down the local for a lovely pub meal.”. “Well!” Katrina declares “in that case you’re free next Saturday, we’re having one of our fabulous parties!” Nothing strikes fear in anyone more than Katrina and Nick declaring they’re having a party. She caught me off guard and trapped me this time. What could I do now? Had I known a party was in the offing I’d have created another wedding to go to. Plus how am I going to break this to my Pete?

Stiff DrinkSo we end up travelling miles to their house

cursing the taxi fare and hardly speaking . Pete tries to anesthetise himself with a stiff drink on arrival before Katrina starts. She shows me all the things they’ve acquired since our last visit, hard to miss since everything’s on show. Then we’re administered our rations and moved outside to meet other bewildered guests. It’s a bit like being in prison, but this one has more rules and regulations.

“Like”? Not Really!Beaten back by the cold I venture indoors for warmth, there’s music playing so I dance a little bit before being sternly reminded about their wonderful new wooden floors and steered back out into the cold again and reprimanded that I’m not mixing enough! The night is a very long one indeed however we’ve never been happier paying for a taxi to get home. It has to be said that going through something like that brings you closer together. Next morning I’m tagged in her Facebook pics. Well she’s achieved what she set out to do, now at least the rest of the world believes last night was a rip roaring success…only the brave know the truth. Next time I’ll have a migraine!

T im’s Top T ipsThings to do in and around Doncaster

So I decide to win some mega bucks to get me MG back on the road. I’m looking for divine intervention and I think I’ve clocked it at the St Leger. We’d just been talking about the Scotland vote and I see a horse named “Scotland” racing with a trainer called A M Balding… and I’d witnessed me first bald patch that very morning! It was too spooky not to try so I put my MG savings on the nose! At 16/1 I was planning new bucket seats and go faster stripes! Unfortunately the only thing that went faster was the dosh! So now I’m back to square one! Can’t believe it.

PovertyMy new found poverty has caused another quandary. It’s knocking on Christmas now, so If I meet someone soon I’ll have to buy her a present. I’m avoiding all female contact like the plague and only going in blokey pubs. I got caught this time last year with Sharon. She was in love with me right up until Boxing Day!! Yes really! I bought her a dress from Coast and a Radley bag, cost a fortune, but as Sharon said, “you can’t put a price on love!” I didn’t get a present from her on Christmas day, instead she gave me a card promising a great surprise was to come. I was intrigued, until I got a text the next morning saying that it was wasn’t working out; not quite the surprise I was expecting. When I tried to call my number was blocked, she unfriended me on facebook and won’t answer the door. I reckon the best time to meet someone is January, especially if their birthday isn’t until October. I’m not tight, just not falling for that one again. Knowing my luck I’ll meet someone Mad Friday!

Dr WhoSo anyway it’s our Tom’s birthday coming up. He’s a right chocaholic and loves Dr. Who. Not usually a combination which works. So I was glad to get a brilliant Darlek from Sweet Escapes. I couldn’t believe what they did with chocolate, it’s realistic too. Mind it’ll be our Tom who’ll be doing the exterminating it!

MoneyMaking TiPS

How to make money from a monetised website, without any costs!

It sounds too good to be true, so there must be catch! Well no not really. This costs nothing but a chunk of your time and a slice of patience. It’s worth giving it go, and when you get that first click on your advert, you’ll feel a million dollars!Over the next few issues you’ll learn how to open a Google account, set up a blog site, set up Adsense and set up Affiliate accounts.

AdsenseYou’ve probably already seen loads of sites with adverts on them. Ebay have lots of ads, so if you don’t buy from Ebay you may click on a website from the sites they list. It looks like a typical Google search.

So basically we want a site to list adverts that people will click. We’re not going to sell

anything, just direct people to information they’re interested in. The search done in Ebay was for kettles, so consequently it generated a list of kettle related websites. However sites will also display ads directed towards items previously viewed online too. So the advertising is always relevant to the viewer.

The SubjectFirstly think of things you can write about. It may sound obvious, but you need to know the subject well. Starting with something you feel passionate about helps, especially if it’s something that attracts lots of updates. This may be a technology slant (think of the latest model etc) or it could be music related and include gigs and latest releases. Alternatively it might be creative, fashion, sewing, knitting…think of anything you care about and make a list.Go down the list and think of the readership. Who will be attracted to a site containing the information you offer? Think of their age, location, employment , disposable income, etc. Really build a profile of the person you are attracting and imagine what items they might want to buy or are interested in. After all if we want to advertise things , we need to know our market. Here’s a hint, the younger they are, the more likely they will click on the adverts.Scratching your head? Research this on search engines. Enter something like “website ideas for 2014” do put the date in, because ideas for

16

EbAy SEARCH RESulT

Page 17: Deal hound oct 14

say 2005 may be old hat now. When you have your idea, it’s now time to secure a website. There are hundreds of sites offing free templates and hosting. However we want to put adverts on (that people will click on) and we don’t want to share the revenue with a third party. In my opinion it needs to be a Google site. Create a google account here. https://accounts.google.com/signup

It is very simple, just input your details and agree to the terms and conditions and then activate your account from an email sent to your current address.

Log in to adsense www.google.co.uk/Adsense. If you already have a site to use, enter the details when prompted. If not, click where it says “I don’t have any domains to monetize”

this will take you to a page with suggestions, one of these is Blogger. Click the Blogger link,

then “create blog”. Follow the prompts.

To advertise call 0791 487 0190 or email [email protected]

17

You will need a title and address. Underneath will be templates to choose. Just click on one because you can change it later if you like. Then hey presto, click “create blog” A message will pop up confirming the blog has been created, now just click to start posting.

To change anything hit the orange blogger logo button in the top left. From this view you can see everything you need. Including all the stats! That’s how many people are actually viewing your site.

Down the left hand side it lists “earnings” click this and it invites you to sign up and set up your adsense account.

However you need to build up your blogging site before qualifying for an Adsense account. It would be prudent to read carefully the terms and conditions and exactly what is acceptable. After all you don’t want to spend hours updating a site to find out later that it doesn’t qualify.

So play around with the site and input as much information as possible. Ensure you update it at least twice a week. In the next edition you will open your Adsense account and watch the clicks come in.
