DeadwoodAudience Feedback - Charlie Dimbleby

Feedback IntroAs a group, we decided on a different approach to gathering audience feedback. Usually, all the feedback is obtained at the end of production. However, with our trailer production, we chose to collect feedback throughout the process, so it makes it easier and more manageable to change specific things that didn’t get great feedback.

Stage One of FeedbackFor the beginning of our feedback, we just decided to hand out short questionnaires to members of our class so it enables us to gather quick, accurate feedback with not a lot of waiting around. Reducing the waiting time for feedback means we were able to act upon the parts of our trailer swiftly that weren’t seen as very good or of a high level. Most of the questions only required short answers (mostly opinions) so they were easily understandable without any unnecessary comments to which we would have to adapt. Collectively as a group, we found the feedback exceptionally helpful, and it really quite drastically changed our trailer.

Stage Two - Q1At the beginning of filming we had a plot which would include supernatural beings, specifically zombies. The feedback we received told us that ‘zombie films’ are hard to make look realistic on a small/minimal budget and that they are ‘very cliche.’ After discussion between us as a group, we decided to scrap the idea and come up with a new suspect/antagonist, who’s identity is never revealed in our trailer. This received much more positive praise and feedback, proving the market research/questionnaires were effective and our trailer may not have looked as good without it.

Stage Two - Q2Another question that we shared to our class was, ‘Do you feel our movie trailer so far, attracts the target audience of our choice?’ - This being late teens to young adults. I feel that making sure you reach your target audience is of key importance so it was reassuring to get positive responses, all of them agreeing with our set target audience.
