De Hoop also boasts abundant birdlife found both on the 19km fresh water vlei as well as along the coast and a good number of mammals like eland, bontebok, and ostrich and Cape mountain zebra. As of the 1 st of September 2008 the De Hoop Collection, in partnership with CapeNature took over most of the tourism activities and accommodation at De Hoop. All of the accommodation has been completely refurbished and is of a much higher standard. The self catering accommodation is all fully equipped with linen, bathroom towels and kitchen equipment and the cottages are serviced daily. The Fig Tree, restaurant is available at all De Hoop guests and will offer prepared meals that can be ordered and delivered to the cottages and just need to be heated and served. Picnics can also be ordered at reception. Activities Aside from the spectacular whale viewing there will be numerous activities available to guests staying at De Hoop or just visiting for a day. These will include interpretive guided walks through the fynbos and the rock pools, bird watching, hiking and mountain biking, to name a few.

Location: Opstal area De Hoop Village at the Opstal

The De Hoop village consists of 9 cottages all equipped with kitchen/dining room, lounge, 1 double, 1 twin and 1 bunk room as well as a bathroom. All linen and

bathroom towels are provided and the kitchens are fully equipped. Each of the cottages has an outside braai (barbeque) area with a table for outside dining. Names of these cottages are Morea, Gladiolus, Watsonia, Aloe, Restio, Protea, Pelargonium, Erica, Oxalis.

Equipped Cottages at the Opstal

There are 7 cottages that were previously run by CapeNature and have been revamped. They are all fully equipped, with new kitchens, upgraded bedrooms and

bathrooms and new linen and bathroom towels. They all have braai areas and a table for outdoor dining. There is one 3 bed-roomed cottage called Eland and six 2 bed-roomed cottages called Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Baboon, Steenbok, Duiker and Grysbok.

Vlei Cottages at the Opstal

= The Vlei Cottages are 2 bed-roomed cottages overlooking the vlei as their names suggests. They were also previously run by CapeNature and are totally revamped to include new bathrooms, kitchens, furniture, and linen and bathroom towels. The kitchens will are fully equipped and there is a braai area and outdoor table in front of

each cottage. These 3 Vlei Cottages are called Hoepoe, Pelican and Fish Eagle.

Houses at the Opstal

These 3 bed roomed Houses are set in amongst the Milkwood trees behind the Opstal Manor house. The campsite rondawels have all been renovated and have a kettle, bar fridge and toaster in each of them.

Melkkamer Manor House

Melkkamer Manor House is a majestic, old sand stone house overlooking the vlei. It has been derelict for the past few years but soon will be renovated to its former

grandeur. This beautiful building will house 4 en suite bedrooms and will offer 5 star service and luxury.

Melkkamer Vlei Cottage

Melkkamer Vlei cottage is a 4 bed-roomed sand stone house dating back to 1872. This lovely, old cottage overlooks the vlei and faces the Opstal area. The Stables

The stables are still being renovated but once completed will be a magnificent venue for weddings and other events. This double volume barn will house an area for a chapel, an industrial kitchen and will be set up with basic equipment needed for functions like chairs, tables, crockery and cutlery. Catering will be available but we can

also suggest a few events coordinators to assist with planning and setting up, caterers etc.

Melkkamer Foreman’s Cottage

The Melkkamer Foreman’s cottage which is also built of sand stone is situated behind the Manor House and is hidden away by large rambling Milkwoods. It has 3 bedrooms and a lounge/kitchen dining area as well as an outdoor braai area. This charming cottage is fully equipped and like the Vlei cottage also has the option of self

catering or meals can be arranged at the Melkkamer Manor House.

Koppie Alleen

Koppie Alleen is built in the fisherman’s cottage style synonymous with this area; white washed walls and thatch. Koppie overlooks the dunes and sea and is a perfect position for whale watching. This 4 bed-roomed house has a large kitchen/dining and lounge area and is equipped with a modern gas stove as well as a gas and normal

braai area outside in the courtyard as well as a tables and chair for outdoor dining.

De Hoop Notes The Fig Tree restaurant will be open from 8am until 9pm and will be open to all guests as well as day visitors.

As well as the restaurant there will be a deli that will be able to deliver prepared meals to the units as well as picnics (2009). Prepared meals and picnics need to be ordered a week prior to arrival to avoid disappointment.
