    o t h e d a yt o n d e ve lo pm e n t c o a li t i o n , our members and regional partners, and the citizens

o the Dayton Region, we are delighted to share with you an overview o our home in Southwest Ohio.

The Dayton Region is more than a place, more than any one city or attraction, and certainly more

than any one industry. What makes the Dayton Region unique among areas to live and work is the

combination o its diverse culture and quality o lie amenities, great universities, thriving businesses,

    and skilled and diverse workorce.

Think of a great place to live, work, and growthink the Dayton Region!

For much o our history, weve been many

communities that happen to be situated close

to each other. However, over the past decade,

we have come to see how interconnected we

arenot only across the 12 counties that dene

our media market (the TV, radio, and newspapers

we watch, listen to, and read respectively), but also

in how our ortunes and utures are tied to each

    others success.

In act, as our Regions leaders have recognized

this interconnectivity, they have turned moreand more toward regionalizing our economic

development initiatives, including how we market

    and sell the Dayton Region.

With this in mind, wed like to tell you more

about our push to package the region in terms

o what we call our 60-minute commute market.*

    Wh y t h e 6 0 -m i n U t e c o m m U t e ?

There are a couple reasons or measuring

and marketing our Region this way.

Commute times are a real-lie metric that means

something to people. Rather than deining our

region by jurisdictional boundaries, mileage, or U.S.

Census Bureau statistics, we ound that people

and businesses want real-lie data. What is lie

really like in the Dayton Region? What do we really

have access to in our personal and proessional

lives? Drive times are a personal measure.

Just as important in telling our story is how we

compare to other cities, areas, or regions o the

    country. When we compare apples-to-apples

metric o drive times, we ind that the Dayton

Region has access to as much or more resources

than many larger cities and at a signicantly lower

cost o living than many areas o the country.

yoU talKed aBoUt acceSS. acceSS to What?

For many o our citizens and businesses, a huge benet to living an

working here is our access to other major metropolitan areas, speci

Cincinnati and Columbusboth o which are within an hours drive

our Region. This means that businesses can recruit rom a larger p

o students than, say, Atlanta or Dallas/Ft. Worth.

    h o W o U R c i t i Z e n S Ge t t h e Wo Rd o U t

There are many things we do to better tell our story. Through the sup

o our board leadership, members, and regional partners in both the

public and private sectors, were building the data to back up our st

with our Get Midwest regional brand and marketing plan initiative. M

o our stakeholders will touch that process through their input, guida

    and support.

In the meantime, we ocus on whats good about our home. Were p

o our Regionwe have a rich heritage o inventing things that chan

our world. We have sae, aordable, and vibrant communities. We h

a diverse economy despite our challenges, and our citizens enjoy a

sports, estivals, and community lie o all sorts.

With a high school graduation rate o more

than 90 percent and ten K-12 school districts

with an excellent rating rom the State

o Ohio, the Dayton Region is nationally

competitive when it comes to education.

Weve got you covered when it comes

to healthcare. No matter where you are located

in the Dayton Region, you will never be more

    than a 20-minute drive rom a top-notch

    healthcare acility.

country and easy access to some o the best

sports teams in the country, all linked by a short

commute time, your lie just got easier!

O all the strengths o the Dayton Region

the last 150 years has been our extraordinary

    ensuring a vibrant future

The Dayton Region has been impacted a great deal by aviation

and aerospace since the rst days o the Wright Brothers test fights

at Human Prairie Flying Field. Today, with the cutting edge research

and development done at our deense installations, we are proud

to support our deense installations and strive to ensure that their economic

impact on the Region remains a positive one. In the Dayton Region,

industry, academia, and community partners work together to support

the important missions o Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and

Springeld Air National Guard Base. In 2005, the community put

its ull backing behind WPAFB and SANG during the Base Realignment

and Closure (BRAC) process, resulting in 10,000 jobs gained and retained

in the Region. Coordinated through the Wright-Patt 2020 initiative,

the Dayton Region continues its mission to ensure a successul

BRAC transition and to positively position our ederal installations
