Being able to help students appreciate the value of learning, how to study smart and not hard, and to realize that what they learn in this class will help them in all aspects of their lives – that’s a great feeling.

Honors CollegeThe Honors College offers enriching and stimulating courses that foster critical thinking, broaden your education and examine perspectives of different disciplines. In addition, the Honors College supports formal undergraduate research, academic scholarships, and a variety of academic and social activities.

Learning CommunitiesQUANTA is a learning community where students and faculty work together to share their learning experiences. As a QUANTA student, you’ll work with three faculty members who teach critical thinking, cultural arts, and English courses. You will participate in groups with other students to share your ideas, thereby gaining different perspectives on the topic you are studying. You’ll develop your critical thinking, reading and writing skills, group and leadership skills, and benefit from a flexible learning

environment. Through this experience of community, you’ll develop a greater sense of involvement with other students and faculty.

Falcon OnlineYour classroom can be wherever you are! Through the Falcon Online system, you may earn a degree or certificate with few or no campus visits required, including an online AA, BAS, or BSET degree. Totally online courses are conducted via the Internet, with instructor contact made through emails, discussions, chat sessions and other communication technologies.

Falcon Online also offers courses that are partially online. These are courses that require both online sessions and campus visits. Time on campus varies from 25 to 75 percent of the total course hours.

Dual EnrollmentIf you are a local high school student looking to get a jumpstart on your college education, then Daytona State College’s Dual Enrollment program may be right for you. Dual Enrollment is an accelerated program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn credit toward high school completion and college credit toward a certificate or an associate degree.

Academic Advising Academic Advising is available on all campuses and provides assistance to all students – new and continuing – all the way to graduation. We recommend that you see an academic advisor after receiving scores from a placement test such as the P.E.R.T., CPT, TABE, SAT, or ACT. The advisors will use this information to help you find the classes that are most appropriate for you in your program of study.

In Academic Advising, you will receive a general overview of course selection and registration, an explanation of test scores and/or course placement, information about program and course requirements, as well as recommendations for classes. In addition, academic advisors will explain your student rights and responsibilities, demonstrate FalconNet and Online Student Services, and help you find resources that can help with specific academic questions or issues.

Faculty Advising Daytona State faculty advisors are assigned to students based on their major or program of study, and provide guidance related to course information and program completion. Your faculty advisor will have real-world knowledge about life after graduation based on your program of study, can help you stay on track and find the resources you need to be successful. Faculty Advising offers a one-on-one relationship with a faculty member who has a personal interest in your success.

Daytona State College makes it easy to attend class and achieve your goals by giving you help when you need it. Think of it as a team of higher education professionals with a common goal: your success.

Throughout its history, Daytona State has fostered a tradition of excellence in academics and service to a growing community. The college now serves more than 30,000 students annually.

1957 – Florida Legislature authorized Daytona Beach Junior College as the state’s first comprehensive community college, with three divisions: college credit, adult education and the Mary Karl Vocational School under the Volusia County School System.

1965 – Volusia County Community College, a separate entity under the school system, merged with DBJC.

1968 – The state Legislature combined the divisions into a single administrative unit under a District Board of Trustees independent of the county school system.

1971 – The official name of the college was changed from Daytona Beach Junior College to Daytona Beach Community College.

2006 – The college was authorized to begin offering its first bachelor’s degree - the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management.

2008 – The college joined eight other schools selected to be part of Florida’s first state college pilot project and was authorized to award bachelor’s degrees. The District Board of Trustees and the state of Florida subsequently approved the institution’s request to change its name to Daytona State College, assuring baccalaureate degree graduates that their diplomas and transcripts reflect their achievement of obtaining a four-year degree.

2009 – The college started the first of what is now seven bachelor’s degrees in education.

2010 – Daytona State College was approved to offer a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree.
